These are actually really cheap, low quality hats. High quality hats are made from fur felt not wool and definitely don't have any hot glue.

A super quick and easy way to spot an inferior bowler is the way the brim is curled. A bowler with some semblance of quality will usually have a really tight brim curl referred to as a D'Orsay curl. It takes skill to put one of these on a hat.. The cheap "fancy dress" versions (usually made of wool felt) tend to have their brim simply turned up at the edge, at a roughly 90 degree angle relative to the flat part of the brim. This is actually quite easy to do and is a sign of cutting corners to lower production cost. The brim binding is then machine stitched on. If you want a traditional, well-made bowler made out of fur felt that looks good without breaking the bank, just buy a vintage one. Cool video nonetheless.

cheap hats, first high quality hats are not made from wool, they are still made with Beaver, or Beaver/ Rabbit blend as the cost go's down the percentage of Beaver go's down, wool is the least expensive. I have been a hat collector for over 30 years and I can assure you none of my hats have wool or hot glued anything. still thanks for the video.

Interestingly enough, one traditional method employed for making top hats before the goss-layering method became common, was to block a wool or fur felt shell (same general method as in video, but by hand) then cover it with hatter's plush. I believe that many of the modern fur plush top hats employ the wool felt shell method, as the goss-layering method is somewhat of lost art. You get a heavier hat as a result. Also, a proper grey top hat will simply be made of blocked fur felt and finished in a similar manner to this video. Certain English firms mass-produce grey top hats in factories similar to the method shown here. However, the materials are of a higher quality and more detail is put into the finishing. Lastly, a top hat should only ever be worn with white tie, morning dress or a frock coat, with the occasion and/or attire dictating the colour and type of top hat worn, although a black silk or fur plush hat is sufficient for just about every possible formal occasion calling for one of the aforementioned dress codes.
