I’ve been watching your vids since 2015 and I just love how calm and soothing they are. You’re a genuine artist and I’ll forever appreciate your craft 🖤
Chris, once again you have come up with something fantastical and amazing! I always enjoy the instructional nature of your videos and especially like your goofy wonderful sense of humor. Thanks for bringing so much fun to your fans (fans, get it?).
Nice update to this project. It was one of the first that I did, though my skills left a lot to be desired at that time. Some time later, I may go back and make this again. I like the idea of the fan, makes a simple project a lot cooler. I might even mesh the inner tube to allow for airflow, as I found that these top hats really store in the heat...
Hey all, thanks for watching, here's the links for the pattern and 3d files.... Pattern: www.lostwaxoz.com/shop 3D files: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4428933 Flared Top Hat video: bit.ly/Tophattutorial
Chris I have to say, this was an awesome project! I like how you have incorporated your 3D printer into your foam projects! The little embellishments that you have incorporated into your projects are totally genius my friend!!!! Keep up the good work!!!
When I made my hat I used a pc fan and a small hobby analog clock so it could have a working fan to keep cool and always spin. And the clock can tic tok away (I actually reversed the quarts thingy so it runs backwards for extra fun and weirdness )

Do you need to print out both the curved and flat duct pieces? Could you just print out the curved one and make the tube inside longer? I don't have a 3d printer and I'm using a service called shapeways, but printing both pieces as oppossed to just one costs almost $20 more signed, -a student trying to make a costume with a very small budget
Yes, I think you could do that, but your construction will have to be altered a bit. There won't be any of the sticking out on the inside of the hat, so you'll need to figure out how you want it to connect with the tube. Of course, easier would be to just forget the tube, it's not really necessary and the hat will be much cooler to wear because you will have some airflow. Hope that helps a little!
@@LostWax awesome thank you so much! I'm making 2 steampunk costumes for a wedding in October and I was so excited to find your channel! Thank you for all the help!
I have the other hat you designed. I've wanted to add a miniature smoke machine and a smoke stack like you made for this hat. Any ideas on a miniature smoke machine? I was thinking about using a vape and adapting it.
You have to make a collar for the vape to push air into it, unless you completely dismantle it. I think miniature air pumps are available. Part of the truck is activating the vape. I think they work on suction. Bit I did just see this. www.etsy.com/listing/689884220/mini-smoke-machine-usb-powered-remote?gpla=1&gao=1&&gclid=CjwKCAjw57b3BRBlEiwA1ImytreHZi723BEBS7TwYIZrYSWsvveO1uplfcAjbyx2cCu7ZNRtSKmLihoCVE0QAvD_BwE
For this one I used 3dcoat, they have a scaled down version for 3d printing called 3dcprinting. I think they have a free trial too. Definitely takes some getting used to, but it has a lot of cool things about it.
Don't you know how much i LOVE this channel and you man, personally, huh? Now you know! Oh, no-no, I am heterosexual, just love how your brain's working, ahah. - Great ideas and so funny charismatic manner... Gosh! Good health to you and your familly, bro
Hmm, neither can I! I'll have to fix that, but for now, here's the link to the 3d printed parts: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4428933 The main top hat is the regular flared top hat, which is on my website. Thanks for the heads up!
I created a group in Facebook to steampunk fans... and i shared yours video... thank you so much!

And the template bundle is totally worth the money I got it back in the day and have never regretted my decision
Best Steampunk hat ever.
Thanks!
OMIGOSH! It reminds me of Hatchworth’s hat from Steam Powered Giraffe!!

Thanks so much for watching!!
You never fail to amaze
Awww, thanks!
I put a clock face and a temperature/humidity gauge in the old top hat design and it gets a LOT of compliments! Now...to tackle this...
I have made so many of the "old" ones, I look forward to tackling this bad boy now too!
Hehe, excellent!
Maybe an old computer case fan would work! i have to check that ! Ty, nice vid.
I think it would work. Even better, add a power supply and you've got air conditioning😁
Dude that is genius
Thank you!
This is gorgeous!
I'm enjoying your videos - your creations are marvelous - and you're funny too. First smile of the day - thanks for sharing.

Pure genius ,I was really impressed on how you perfected the steampunk hat project…. Very unique 👍

Yeah, even better would be to power the fan so it could create airflow to keep cool!
That's brilliant.
I need this....obviously
Love it bud!!! Off to make something crazy now! Thank you!
Have fun!
Thanks for the updated hat, and thank you for educating me about the 48 hrs.
This is some serious Steampunk Mad Hatter high fashion right here! FAN-tastic! ;)

omg I love this! Fantastic
Thanks!!
My names Chris and I like to make things! That looks so cool!!
This gave me an idea to do this but put in a mini solar powered fan to keep my head cool .o. ish
That would be sweet.
That is pretty amazing. Bravo!
I love these steampunk videos!! And also I decided to make the arm pattern and spray paint does sick to the piston thingy 🙃
That's good to know!
Después de tanto tiempo no veía tus videos, me alegra saberte bien, bendiciones de luz y amor desde mi lindo Perú.
Love it!!! Already bought this one, but please... could you consider of making any ideas for mechanical gloves...? please.....

As always hood stuff man
hey thats neat~
Could you use thin, plastic cutting board instead of foam?
Remember to make a video showing all the different ways to create rivets.
Thanks for the reminder, I was already distracted with a different project:)
Hi Lost, I'm a big fan but have no duct!
😂
Great work as always but it's not do-it-yourself for average folks
Yep, I hear ya, that'll be the last 3d printed project for a while. Back to foam and glue:)
I bought the bundle, and cannot seem to find the new patterns
Hello !
Thanx for cool things you create !
But what thickness of EVA foam was used for hat ?
this one was 8mm.
Love this. Just wish I was competent at that craft. Motorized fan, mini-smoke maker?
sooo.. do i realy need a diferent ruler for every cut/measurement..
Hehe, I never noticed that. I guess I have a lot of rulers....
He must be like me--I end up surrounded by at least 7 pairs of scissors when I do any kind of project!

Yeah, a vape, and then some sort of pump. I have one from a weed sprayer I was thinking of trying.
You have to make a collar for the vape to push air into it, unless you completely dismantle it. I think miniature air pumps are available. Part of the truck is activating the vape. I think they work on suction.

Kamui Cosplay has a video on adapting a vape into a smoke machine for a mace she made.
The hat looks great. 👍

Yeah, totally, also it would be cool to make the prop powered so it could cool your head while it's on.... maybe in the future....
Use contact cement.
A gold fish?
