And yes to answer your question about hearing just the bass. It and the drums are so foundation for Tool. The first time I heard invincible live was at the staple center in Los Angeles and their first leg of the fear inoculum tour. I actually stood at the back of the arena right underneath Kobe's jersey and felt Justin's bass punching me through the chest. it was an amazing feeling.

Part 2 is obviously going to be the Salival. I STRONGLY recommend "The Fan" video to be a Part 3. It's a live performance, and a fan gets on stage drunk, and attempts to hug Maynard. Maynard hip tosses him, get's on top, and sings the rest of the song. The "scrambling to keep my feet flat on the ground" lyrics happen during that. There is one good video of the entire song, cut together from different cams. Not great audio, but it's my favourite performance of the song. He screams in the guys ear. It's a 9m43s video and hopefully I can link it to you here czcams.com/video/SyYV58OTQ-0/video.html - Cheers

This album is pretty much their inbetween point. Opiate and Undertow are dominated by impulsive rage, Lateralus and the following albums are mostly introspective and largely about controlling and overcoming your impulses. AEnima is the album that bridges those two extremes. There are a lot of songs that culminate in fits of rage (Eulogy, AEnema, Pushit) but also calmer ones that are about self control and betterment (H., Forty Six & 2, Third Eye). Musically it's also combines the aggressive and grimey sound of it's predecessors and the ethereal and spiritual approach of Lateralus.
Since you liked this one I guess you would also like Eulogy. And now that you familiarized yourself with Maynard's sense of humor, I believe you're ready for Hooks with Pens as well.

That was a great reaction to one of my favorite Tool songs! I mentioned this one waaaaaay back earlier in your Tool journey, but I think you came to it at the right time. To your questions: 1. Do I know what you mean? Yes, I don't know how to put it into words either, but you say "journey" a lot and that's the right word to me. Tool songs tend to take you on a trip. 2. Nope, can't agree with you on the solo part lol While I don't always love guitar solos or think they're completely necessary, I usually enjoy them a lot. I really love Tool guitars solos and sections. 3. I don't remember the other questions, but yeah, I love this song and I'm glad you liked it.

I get you with that solo guitar part and bass having a great bassline under. I think Adam Jones is very minimalist but in a great way so I would think he would want you to listen to one or both at once. So that they play against each other but sound great. Love you Lauren🤘🖤

  • @sumonjamal1653
    @sumonjamal1653 Před 2 lety +2

For your info: Tool was formed in 1991 as a "joke" band - it was named after the tool shed in guitarist Adam Jones' backyard 😂
Adam Jones had worked as a CGI effects tech in Cali... he wanted a band that was kind of a prank on audiences... Danny Carey (drums) & Maynard James Keenan (vocals) came on board w/ Paul D'Amour (bass)... but Jones was surprised by how good a singer Maynard was.
In 1992, Nirvana was breaking big, and record companies courted Tool... they opted to record an EP 'Opiate' as a debut (it was another joke - and EP is released after an album is a hit... not as a first offering) followed by the debut album 'Undertow' in 1993.
Tool combined the heavy riffage of Black Sabbath w/ the sonic landscape of Pink Floyd (and also stayed faceless like Floyd) ...In 1996, bassist Justin Chancellor replaced D'Amour... the next album 'Aenima' went platinum in '96... Five years later, Tool hit #1 on the charts in 2001 w/ the 'Lateralus' album... and again in 2006 w/ the '10,000 days' album.
Despite touring regularly to massive audiences, Tool did not release a new album for 13 years... Finally, the album 'Fear inoculum' was released in 2019... again debuting at #1, selling over a half million copies alone in the US in the streaming age.

I also often pick out the bass too. One of my favorite things about Tool is that you can key in on any single instrument and there will be something interesting going on. The best is when they are all doing something really different and yet it just fits together so well.

About the bass, I’m a guitar player and I actually started playing because of Adam Jones ironically. And when I first started listening to them back in the day I was enamored with his playing and I mostly focused on that because I was learning guitar. But after I learned a bunch of songs and went back and listened I tried to pay more attention to the others. Justin is fucking incredible. This song is one of his best performances for sure. During Adams solo I could give a rats ass what he’s doing anymore I always focus on Justin lol

Being a drummer, I figured most off my attention on the Bass too. I can sing along with most TOOL songs but I probably know maybe 35-40% off the lyrics.
"I might fade like a sigh if I stay" and "there's no love in fear" are my favorite lines in this one.

Drums and Bass are the backbone of any band, and in particular, TOOL. If you lose people because you "disparage" Guitar solos, well then they aren't worthy of your Honesty. I like guitar solos as well as the next human, (I can even play them) but it's not just about one instrument. That's why it's called a BAND.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee Do you know what the average view duration for the typical CZcams video is? I don't, but I'd wager that it is not over 50% and probably not that much higher than yours (if it is even higher, it might not be). Also, you might want to consider that not every view is from a unique user. Some people watch videos more than once. I don't know how CZcams counts it if I watch 100% of the video the first time and then skip through it to the points I want to rewatch the next -couple of dozen- two to three times. Averages are typically not as bad as they sound once you consider things like that.

It may sound strange, but this long time fan doesn't find this song all that great. I don't hate it, but for me, it is far from the best. I know that goes against what most folks think, but that is OK I suppose.
The salival version hits even lower for me. Way too slow.
