  • After reacting to live version of Pushit we decided we will compare it with a studio version which was highly recommended.
    Enjoy ;)

I think in this version he is angry at the other half of a dysfunctional relationship, whereas in the live version he seems to have accepted more of his role in the dysfunction. Thats my take on the differences anyway.

Pushit is one of my favorite TOOL songs! It's just amazing. Beautiful melodies throughout with the instrumentation and the vocals. Also I love how soothing Maynard's singing voice is. Honestly I love both the studio version and live version the same, but I enjoy the beginning part of the live version more. Much more emotional. Great reaction once again! You understand the band very well I think! You're really into it and it's awesome to see! I would love to see you react to The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, and Lateralus next! :)

Crazy to think this has been my favorite song for 25 years now. Looking back on it as a kid and the perceived "devastating" effects of a break up of a 17 year old are laughable. But the emotion and the artistry are still the same. Glad to find others who love it as well.

Thoroughly enjoying your journey of Tool... i have two suggestions. First, instead of jumping ahead to future albums or songs like some in the comments suggest perhaps go backwards a bit to Undertow, specifically Bottom, Sober or Crawl Away. I would love to hear your thoughts on "older" Tool.
Second suggestion (in case you disregard my first) stick with songs from Aenima album, I think there's a subtle importance to have album continuity when listened to Tool.
Looking forward to the next selection!!

I bought a Les Paul guitar and ended up building a mini home studio just so I could learn to play Pushit and Lateralus with something somewhat close to Adam's tone. True story, and no regrets.

Pushit "The Fan" version on You Tube is the best version imo, it's not great audio quality, but you can still tell that the singer is belting it to the full extent while also sitting on a person that jumped onto the stage trying to hug him. Truly epic. (Video is a must, you see the guy get on the stage, and then the singer takes him to the ground, get's on top of him, and continues to sing this song, and the lyrics take on yet another meaning)

Fuck, I wish I could bottle Justin's bass tone and used it on my bass without having to drop like 5 grand on a Wal bass, all his effects pedals, and amp lol. I can tell I'm listening to a Tool song just by hearing a single note played on the bass guitar. It's so crisp. I can listen to the breakdown in the middle of this song, in particular, on repeat. It sets such an interesting atmosphere and the bass is hypnotic. It's a weird combination of soothing, exotic, and mysterious.

You 2 are in the perfect position to experience tool as they were meant to be experienced imo. Reacting to the earlier stuff first, undertow/aenima you are tapping into their portrayal of raw emotion.
Opiate is anger, resentment & taking the piss out of people.
I will not ruin the other 3 album's for you but I will say you will notice & experience the growth within each member of the band.

I heard Undertow first, then Aenima, Opiate, Lateralus, Salival, 10,000 days and finally Fear Innoculum (sp?). Tool's like a collection of David Lynch or Tim Burton movies one can't get enough of. Very abstract and you hear something and feel something new each time. I've been a fan since the 90's and still am fascinated! I wouldntind doing a reaction video, and I agree. It would be great to see Parabol/Parabola reacted too. Or The Patient. That one reminds me of Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Maynard James Keenan and his most-talented army of fellow musicians has shaped my entire self. Keep it up! I think this an excellent way for people to be introduced to musicians they have down played because a friend dislikes it or doesn't even know who Tool (AND THE BEATLES-I passed Sophomore English by STUDYING the lyrics of The Beatles). If anyone has any bands they would like to share that I may not know of, please do. I can appreciate most music. Even country though that and Jazz are tough. ;-) Btw, it almost looks like people are in ecxtasy as they hear these tracks. Lovin it.

Another great live song is Jerk it by Tool. Specifically the live version from 10.10.1999. Its a very different vibe from Pushit and its poor quality compared but its one of their early songs from their demo tape and its super raw. And it happens to have the best Maynard live scream of all time, so there is that.
