Another cool thing about the Buster Blader artwork is that you can see the shadow of a dragon, hence why Buster Blader is ready to grab his sword :)
I remember buying my first ever booster pack in a corner shop as a kid. I was there to buy some sweets, but when I saw those beautiful foil packs at the counter with the LOB artwork I completely forgot about candy altogether. From that pack, I pulled Swords of Revealing Light, and thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Everyone tried to get that card from me, but I never traded it. And, despite not having it today, I can appreciate how big of an impression the card made on me as a kid. So many years later, I put on an episode of the anime and got hit so hard by nostalgia that I decided to look up all the cards that I loved - which led me to this flourishing collecting community online. As a result, I've been working my way into the hobbie, and I have to say I'm having a great time thus far. Finding your videos has been a huge part of this, I've learnt so much so quickly, which has allowed me to make sound purchasing decisions that reflect my taste whilst still being collectable. I never knew about these incredible cards in the video, they are just unbelievable. Naturally, I decided to purchase the whole set (the Japanese versions). Thanks so much for all of the effort and passion you put into these videos.
I just realized that Buster Blader is facing the shadow of an enemy dragon on the artwork :o
The fact that somehow someway i kept mine in good condition still baffles me but its in a binder now and looks great
Dark Magician is a perfect fit with the rest of the promos and Summoned Skull looks terrifying in that artwork because he used to look like that in the Toei/BANDAI cards from 1998.
My absolute favorite card in my collection is the shonen jump 2011 dark magician, that has the artwork style of the YAP1 collection with the signature in the bottom right. The all black dark magician with the white background is epic and I got it in a PSA 10.
One of my favorite sets. I remember buying and owning them as a kid. Amazing artworks and as you said, the heart and soul of Takahashi is in this set. Another cool thing about the Buster Blader artwork is that you can see the shadow of a dragon, which I believe to be REBD. It's a fight scene between them, hence REBD blowing fire right as Blader is grabbing his sword to deflect. The terrain and even the camera angles shares similarities. 🙂

This was my main chase set when I got back into collecting, always wanted this as a kid but couldn't afford the sealed prices, now through searching and waiting I have a set with an opened pack to top it off. All nicely framed in a 9-card hard case inside a wooden frame. One suggestion for the spare slot, why not get an open empty back and place it in the centre, would round off the set I'd say. I do like the Dark Magician inclusion there however!
man this is why i love your videos - you make me love my cards even more than I already do. I've had these sitting in my binder since I was a kid but never really appreciated some of the subtleties in the art that you pointed out. definitely will be admiring them more now, thanks
Quick sidenote: the Japanese pack has not 9, but 5 cards in it. The complete set in Japanese does consist of 9 total cards
In the OCG there is a Card with the Name "True Exodia" painted by the Master himself with a weird effect😅 it would fit nice into the last slot.

Imagine viewing Summoned Skull as being too grotesque, lmao. I love that's its an alternate take and why not, who can argue the mans own design. I believe he was in my opinion, inspired and grew up to Berzerk, dark fantasy but also the really extreme horror stuff that was anime's golden era.
megami was featured in the japanese version of the anime where kaiba uses it to jam a gun pointed at his head
Bought this at target, Celtic guardian was my favorite art out of the bunch
I do pref the DMG being in that slot
1 - aesthetically the most pleasing being a row of vanillas
2 - iconic to be next to the BEWD
3 - this art of the DMG doesn't exactly have another must fit in slot for a collection binder unless you have a JUMP chronological section
I think the only other card that can be considered is the JUMP-EN037 Obelisk since it was next card released in TCG with Kazuki Takahashi signature, but would much rather have the jump edition of the god cards together
The summoned skull is based on the art work of the earliest yugioh cards being the bandai cards, in which they didn't even look like the modern day cards.
Red eyes and blue eyes look amazing
perfect spot in the binder for dark magician! and honestly, finding these packs here in NZ was a nightmare back when they came out! i managed to pick up a few of the loose cards, but definitely wish I could've gotten them all back in the day~
Love watching your content for all things yugioh - super nostalgic! I've started trying to make "character binders" myself, finish off a dark magician one and then planning on moving on to either blue eyes, or Toons next \o/
i put blue eyes on the left, dark magician center and red eyes on the right, the rest can just follow based on card release.
I saw the Jump DM coming as soon as you said you had something in mind for that empty slot. It makes the most sense.

Man I remember this. I was going to pass on it when I saw it since I didn't play or collect anymore at that time but I saw they were all drawn by Kazuki Takahashi himself and immediately bought it. It was one of the first things I thought of when he passed away and I'm glad I bought it.
It sad that his gone. Hopefully yugioh still goes strong

That buster blader artwork is amazing!
The Blue eyes art is the best one in my opinion. But they seem to be unpopular, I tried selling these multiple times, and nobody wanted them, except when I cut the price down by like 40%.

These cards also differentiate themselves from regular normal monsters because text on normal monster cards is italicized, but is not on YAP cards. Many fakes/proxies are easy to tell apart because they italicized the text

The Problem is not the empty card space, the problem is the binder… just use a binder with 4 Cards per side and it looks much nicer.
I remember buying 2 of these packs mainly just for Shiba, Warrior Taro. It was such a good card at the time.
I didn't realize that the cardboard packaging was rare. That's all they had at the Target that I got it from.

Here come all the rise on sales of the Anniversary pack and cards on eBay lol. No wonder my DMG looked different. One definitely looks lighter than the other one. I also didn’t know about the first print having no border. This set came out when I was in high school. I totally skipped this set, but I always wanted it. All these art works are amazing. I completely agree on the Celtic Guardian and Buster Blader. Blue eyes is awesome too. I just opened a pack too and a ton of print lines and scratches on them. The Dark Magician is like the missing piece of this set. Do more videos like these for sure

I agree this was an excellent product. Random, but the kaiba set for TCG should've had the single Blue-eyes white dragon as the only ocg art not yet released for tcg with Kaiba on it instead of the easily obtained Earth art
Blue-Eyes' artwork from this set is my #1 favorite print of the card. Moreso even than the iconic SDK art on the DDS print.
I absolutely love Jinzo’s art! It reminds me of pop-art meets yugioh. Which is so odd, but works. And summoned-skull’s art is great in my opinion too. But maybe because it reminds me of Magic The Gathering. Loved you breaking all of this down!

I got 2 boxes at toys r us back in 2009. Didn't know anything about them, opened both and didn't know it was just 8. Didn't think much and left them in my ring binder. One whole section got damaged, I gave away one red eyes. I have 1 whole set still in good condition. Found out 2 years ago how much they go for, time is crazy.

Way more than the size of the text box is the color for me that makes it not match, it's hella different! While I really like your idea too I would personally put there a Dark Magician Girl and for the reason I stated first, I would put the OCG one there, the colors match. The english version would be ok too, kinda sad for her to be missing lol.
Also what, 50 bucks costs this pack in Japanese? Damn, as much as it could have been printed that gotta be a tad underpriced, it's been 15 years after all. Imma pick one or two up for sure!:D

I literally just searched for 8 hours yesterday for affordable options of the tch and its just too wild, ended up with the ocg version which is much more affordable
As an artwork in my collection I'm still missing gyakutenno megami (dunno if that's written correctly), Celtic Guardian, Buster Blader and Summoned Skull. I think I would get those in japanese because they are much cheaper that way. I bought my TCG Blue eyes Copy in 2019 on cardmarket. Last year I bought an OCG copy of red eyes yap1 for my red eyes collection.
I did the basic thing and have Dark Magician Girl in slot 6 of the page. It's the Japanese YAP1. This was before the lost art but I'm similar to you Omar where the holo stars and attribute bother me.
Or Magi Magi Magician girl could be put into that spot (I think that’s the name?)
Unfortunately I don't have a better suggestion, but no, that dark magician just doesn't fit. It isn't so much the text box SIZE for me, but it is definitely the text box color. It is extremely bright by comparison, and the background yellow of the rest of the card is different. Maybe if that one went in the center of the page? Tough decision man. But as it is in the corner, no bueno!
