6:04 something about this Obolisk is that the art is not technically of Obolisk the Tormentor. This is his upgraded form, Obolisk the Progenitor from Yugioh R after Yugi used Divine Evolution on it so it could stand toe to toe with The Wicked Avatar. The main villain, Yako, thought he had the duel in bag as the Avatar was on Ra's level of hierarchy, thus undetectable by the other two gods. It's effect also made it always at least 100 ATK higher than the highest monster on the field including Ra. It was a perfect time counter to Ra and outclassed everything else..except it didn't. His brother used a card called Divine Evolution that could upgrade one of the lesser tier gods or wicked gods into a form equivalent to Ra's. After Yugi beat him he felt Yugi was the only hope in helping his brother drop his sinister behavior and become who he was again. He thus secretly gifted his Divine Evolution spell to Yugi who used it on Obelisk to fully teach Yako and the Avatar an old school lesson in pain. The God hierarchy thing is not actually one in the ocg/tcg nor would there be much point in the convoluted mechanic that would require a new obolisk card in addition to the spell just to be used as a side deck for God deck mirror matches. I think thsi is why they decided to use this art as a alt for regs Obo even though it's not. It was fancier and we wouldn't see it on a card otherwise so they just went with it.
I'm glad that Yugioh started ramping up the number of alt arts. Magic has been doing alt art for 30 years and it's one of my favorite parts of that game.
I really wish Konami would release alt arts for Dark Magician with his anime colors. Idk why they keep doing artworks with the green skin, blonde hair color scheme when the anime colors are by far the most iconic look for him. It also doesn’t help that the anime colors are my favorite and the other one is my least favorite. Does anyone know why they do this?🤔
That really would be nice I think it's a situation where the blue/red outfit is the manga and tcg artwork while the purple is the anime one 🤔 But still would like some more purple as well
You forgot to mention several alt arts, like rescue cat, ghost mourner and moonlit chill, droll and lock bird. I personally never got the hate for the mist arts for red-eyes. The original artwork has been retconned as the design of REBD has changed, black mist makes it seem like a truly horrifying creature like imagine being in a dark misty night and suddenly a red light alights a giant dragon right in front if you. Green mist is a lame recolor but green is my 3rd favorite color after red and black so I give it a pass.
I personally like the mist one a lot And the green one fells kinda cool as the "GX version" of the the card (+it has the awesome parallel secret foiling from Power of Chaos) I think most ppl just dislike the green one cause it's overused and they don't even notice that it's not the same as the mist one 🤷♀
Music is way too loud so it drowns out your voice and it would've been nice to have the alt art cards appear next to their original counterparts to make them easier to compare
Tried to do it that way and it made the video feel very slow so I tried to show them as much as possible in different ways😛 As for the music I will keep it in mind to make it lower next time 🙂
They fucking made 4 alt art of dark magician in one year, cost me so damn much money since I collect alt arts, I now only missing the exclusive one in pride and unity
