It may be a very old film, but it has definitely stood the test of time well. Absolutely gripping ~ & no expensive special effects. Just good, old fashioned, excellent British film making.❤❤❤
Really good, from a time when people made films about ordinary life instead of a fantasy version with gimmicks and violence. Jack Warner was excellent in much the same role as Dixon.
" evening all" .
...
. I sooo agree!
@stevef9530 Dixon was a lowly PC not a high-ranking detective.
Ordinarily life like pimping and pandering.
Did anyone else notice there was no music playing in the background for the entire movie.
Yes...thankfully.
Proper thing
yes- how refreshing! Better with no music.
I've enjoyed several movies and shows out of Brits and Aussies myself.
What an excellent movie. Continuous storyline with twists and turns that makes it hard to tear yourself away. Wonderful acting. I just luv the old British Black & Whites. Thanks bunches.
I’ve had to start this video over, at least 4 times now, because I keep falling asleep 😂 I wake up in the morning and I’ve missed the whole thing!
Better than hypnosis 👍
One of my favourite films ever. I've watched it about 20 times since the 60s. It was filmed in Brighton where I frequented at the time. Happy memories. ♥
Lovely seeing a young Jonn Le Mesurier, last time I saw him was in Dad's Army.
I have seen this before and it is a wonderful movie. It is all about the investigation.
One of my favourite films of the 60's. I was born in 1962 and only watched this in the 1990's when Shaw Taylor hosted a special film night on BBC2.
One of the most engaging movies ever! Intelligent, clever script, wonderful little inserts of humor, excellent acting, really good storyline: I had to watch it twicevto catch all the details. Even a third time will gelp catch all the funny quips. Most of the characters are endearing. Thank you so much for posting this.
Sharp script and interesting plot. Policing before computers and 'modern' methods.🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Best movie I have seen in a long time.
I've watched this film many times. It's simply superb!
Gotta respect the tenacity of cops to get their killer. The psychological torment used to get that first lie. The timeline appears to be all in a day's work which is awesome police work!
Excellent film. Thank U for sharing 👏
Gosh. Excellent. A Val Guest film from 1962. Stars Jack Warner. Well worth watching.
Thanks for this. I'm suffering with a cold and have been watching old b/w movies interspersed with the Comic Strip to cheer myself up. Great film, not seen it before, my how Brighton and Lewes have changed. Adverts were'nt too annoying.
Same here
Two fantastic season actors. Don’t know how I missed watching this before. Thank you very much for sharing.
I love jigsaw puzzles and old movies! Thank you for the upload. 😊
Jigsaw puzzles. Because murder is wrong.
😂
Way ahead of its time in terms of cinematography ..a nod to US film noir of the 40/50 's..understated and largely ignored on its release..this film has influenced many exponents of the darker criminal subculture in the years since
.
Wonderful black and white early 60’ movie👌🏻
I've always loved Jack Warner. We used to watch Dixon of Dock Green when I was a child. He was everyone's Dad or Grandpa and a great actor. 🥰
He didn't get where he is today by admitting to murder. 😊
Super...CJ.
Doc Morrissey and CJ.
No matter what film or TV series I see him in and when it was made - Jack Warner always looks 70+ years old!
His was in his eighties when he recorded his last edition of Dixon of Dock Green. You may know that he was the brother of Elsie and Doris Waters, comedy singers and actors active on stage and film in the early to mid-part of the last century.
He was born 70 years old. I know weird right?
Compelling watch, thanks for uploading.
Brilliant movie. This is policing as it was, no Mobile phones or CCTV just intelligence and a nose for detail. Great plot, direction and fantastic, imaginative camera work.
This is a brilliant movie, and the best movie with Dixon of Dock Green in since Dirk Bogarde shot him.
Excellent murder mystery movie.Really kept me on the edge till the end. Old will always remain gold.❤
Did anyone else notice there was no background music in the whole movie?
Hitchcock did that in "The Birds" also. Once in a while you find such a technique being used...
It's great isn't it. No over powering music.
@@fionavanbuuren3966 Yup. 😊
What a real excellent movie from the early 60ies
Great movie. Thanks for sharing.
The porter at the train station… hi de hi Punch and Judy mr grumpy 🤔 and there’s many more faces what a classic film thanks for sharing 👍🙏
good stuff,thanks for sharing
Very good, like the style and how investigations were run
Love the conclusion, clever.
Great film, nice to see it again on CZcams
Gee, thank goodness for the nosy neighbor who was able to provide a minute by minute detail of her neighbor's comings and goings. She basically solved the crime for the police. Pffft.
Enjoyable movie. Thank you. 😊
Thanks for sharing this, it brought back so many memories of my childhood, and so many of the old actors whom I recognized from the good old days😊. PS the commercials are no worse than anywhere else.
At 1:45:35 the cops were despondent, because he could claim the death was accidental. But surely the fact that he cut up the body and burned part of it in the furnace, would be enough to convict him.
Excellent. TY
Really enjoyed the film. 👍
It is the equivalent of the unputdownable!!
Really enjoyed it but i didn't get where i am today watching films like this.
Great, Super.
... and where have you gotten today? We are all less than curious.
@@arts7867 I didn't get where I am today by being less than curious.
@tsmith7146 I got there, but 37 minutes late due to signals failure at Reading.
@@tsmith7146I didn't get curious by being where I am less today.
Proper, good show!!!
Great stuff 👏 👍
Ronald Lewis bore a striking resemblance to Errol Flynn IMHO. They could have been brothers.
They both died young as well.
Imagine doing a jigsaw and it not being the boredom that kills you
That was very well done. Thanks for uploading
Ronald Lewis, brilliant.
Solid film! Very English but I really enjoyed it!!
If you liked this film, have a look at ' Sapphire ', with Nigel Patrick, Yvonne Mitchell, and a host of other well known actors. It's a British thriller, and superior to this one, imho. It's available on you tube.
Agree Sapphire is a great thriller, so atmospheric
I've got Sapphire on DVD. Great film for 1959, and it's in colour.
Good film, but not a patch on this
Oh I agree. Sapphire is an excellent film. Saw it some years ago and looking forward to a revisit. I liked this film too. Good actors.
love it
I watch this for Ronald Lewis.
So why were the suitcases left at the house?
@amcguigan2389 They explain that at 1:44:28. I know this because I was listening.
No background music or background noise in this movie was a nice change. More movies should do it.
Nope. Music enhances films
Nope. Music enhances films sometimes. It's also subjective.@@doreekaplan2589
@@bayadere8308 Aye. Less often than so IMHO.
Such an elegant ending (no spoilers).
Brighton v palace was on a bank holiday.................
jack warner copper's and grumpy dad's a speciality. Evenin' all .
Can anyone explain the significance of the trunk coming from Lewes to Brighton? I can’t understand this part.
Rather unsavoury subject
But these things do happen!
Jack Warner - they don't make 'em like that anymore.
Thanks I've been trying to remember who the inspector was. Incredible actor!
I didn’t get where I am today…
Ok CJ, Reggie Perrin!
Where are you today?
Always make the cops get a warrant. Most cases the magistrate will refuse to issue one on flimsy evidence.
You need to get out more and learn to tune your ear to the way other people speak. You'll broaden your horizons, increase your appreciation for other people and, who knows, maybe even make a new friend or two.
Impossible to watch - far too many commercials
Try getting u tube premium it’s not expensive !
@@deborahcraven6435but greedy
Reminds me of holidays in Sheringham or Hemsby.
The father really loved his daughter. 😢
That gossiping neighbor I'd swear it was Hilda Ogden
Sorry if it disappoints it was Joan Newell (Mrs banks)
Like hitch without sinister mmusic
Awesome movie!!! But as a Yank sometimes the Brits talk to fast to understand with their accents.
Really? 😂
I find the same to be true of the Yanks.
I always have to use captions.
But they aren't too fast .....and full understanding without problems
Or you’re so slow
Best on .75 speed
You’re a genius! Lol😂
Thank you
There is background sounds..wind
Damn, that father was an arse until he was told she might be dead.😢
Jigsaw origins? Lol
Too many adds!
Yes, CZcams is adding more and more ads. Spoils watching a bit.
AdBlock Plus, free but requests a donation about once a year, which I gladly do.
End of film missing.
And you Can Follow The Movie 🎬 😊
So funny when they threw the water over the woman's face 'pull yourself together woman' 😂 great movie 👌
The rapid fire dialogue of the characters in English movies keeps one's brain engaged at all times. The ending was cleverly done as well.
amazing film, should have been obvious from the start.
Jack Warner is a great British movie star. Watch the beginning carefully. The murderer is in plain sight.
@simonf8902 Is there any need to point that out? Please delete your comment.
Get a lawyer ! 😂
Very good movie, and great detective work.🤔🤔🤔

@Ubique2927 Their age doesn't matter, as long as they come.
@@crose7412 … my point was they will not come for ages.
@@Ubique2927 How long did they take to come to your house/place of work?

Why so many ad breaks ?
Greed
What?!??!!! No sequel!! 😡😡
Way too greedy, having all these ads/commercials. I didn't stay for the conclusion. 👎
@melokc7257 Who would you like to care that you missed the end?
To many adverts. I saw this film about 3 years ago on YT and there wasnt any ads.
Ive just been playing with the boys...Im a schoolmaster of course! Looks dodgy.
I think this movie was really well-done; the only bothersome part were the histrionics by the Murder at the end.
Thanks for this, it’s always fun to find ‘new’ (to Me) good-movies.😉
Yeah that part sorta bothered me too
it ends without saying if it was definitely him as the killer, almost like a cliffhanger though;
I still don’t get it - who was the killer ?
@@BigBoaby-sg1yoThe guy they had was the killer. He kept saying he bought the knife and saw on Monday. When the Inspector saw the Easter poster it showed the event was for Monday and he said that was a holiday and the shops were closed. Bingo!
@@marketads1 so why did the hoover salesman have 2 photographs of her on his wall ?

@@BigBoaby-sg1yo He didn't.
THAT'S the end?
Good show, bad ending
How do you find it a bad ending?
1:24:30 he don't smoke,so he will be not the murderer....1:41:25
Got pissed off with the adverts every three minutes, gave up after 50 minutes!

Franchot Tone had a JIGSAW movie...
confusion.
Excellent drama & suspense !!
The 1942 Franchot Tone film was an American Film Noir about an extremist political faction called the "Crusaders" that may be connected with a string of murders. We just watched the British film of the same name from 1962 that is totally different.
If you don't like ads, get CZcams prime. That makes it seamless. It does seem that the ending is cut off.
It's complete (though if there were any end credits, they are cut off). It just ends on an unusual way, with a realization rather than an arrest.
Are all the witnesses stupid down there? 😅😅😅😅😅
So what did the vacuum cleaner have photos of the woman on the train and the girl on the wall?
He didn't. Those were other women.
@@bpwisniewski so who was the killer ?
@@BigBoaby-sg1yothe ability to actually watch the entire film and not just 10 seconds is sadly a prerequisite.
@@GuitarandMusicInstitute I watched the entire film , so much so that I was late for a meeting 🤷♂️- so then! Miss marples ,who was the killer ? All I got from the ending was Monday 23rd was a holiday .
I look forward to your analytical synopsis of this very engaging movie !
@@BigBoaby-sg1yo are you having a laugh!? The last ten minutes of the film are devoted to unmasking the killer (although I accept that he’s the most unbelievable character to be a killing Casanova).
