Victor Mature was a top actor, his performance here is absolute class.
Victor will always be mostly remembered as " Samson ".
This was terrific, sympathetic performance by Mature. While Richard Widmark’s creepy, unsettling performance got most of the press, it’s Mature who anchors the film, giving audiences somebody to root for, no matter how the cards were stacked against him.
Victor Mature wonderful in this. But Widmark's psycho is absolutely riveting - that laugh, the evil mania. He must have been the 'first of kind' for this kind of role.
Heck of an outstanding film noir with all the 1947 architecture, furniture and rolling stock. Victor Mature puts on a good show as usual... and our hero, everywhere since, gets his big introduction by acting the real nasty hateful character. Thanks GEM: F.L.
Widmark's laugh is priceless. Especially with his cheshire grin with the huge overbite. Reminds me of that other blonde cad actor with the sing songy voice, who was in the film with Edward G Robinson about that painting in the window, and the cad was the boyfriend who pretended his girl painted the pictures but Robinson really painted them.
Richard Widmark was an amazing actor, he left his stamp on every film he made 👍 and this is one of the best. 🎬🎥🎥🎥
Awhile back I searched and just watched his movies for days. A great watch.
Saw him in "Blackout" (1985) just 2 days back. He was brilliant in that too.
Omgosh, Rizzo reminds me of every portrait of Batman's - The Joker.
Victor mature was a class act in his day, very realistic character performing! 😊
Mildred Dunnock (Rizzo's mother) being pushed down that flight of stairs in the wheel chair by Richard Widmark (crazed Tommy Udo) , has to be one of the most horrific scenes in cinematic history!!
you can say that again if not the first for sure
I've aways admired Victor Matures work in the movies he played in especially Sampson and Delilah. 😊
This movie is Class-AAA in terms of acting, story editing and directing. Thankyou for showing enjoyed every second of it.
Very good film, thanks.
Great to see good actors deliver a good script.
Victors voice is to die for ❤
One of Mature’s best screen portrayals & here for the first time is Widmark in an astonishing performance that might have netted him an Oscar had he not been up against Santa Claus (Edmund Gwenn) that same year. A real classic with Colleen Grey as appealing as always as Mature’s new wife. She was also in another memorable noir,NIGHTMARE ALLEY, that year. 1947 in fact has 3 of the best noirs of all, IMO, the third being OUT OF THE PAST.
She was gorgeous. I also found her to somewhat resemble Amy Acker, if you ever watched the tv show Person of Interest.
Widmark is as bad a villian as they come in this! He has an evil smile, an evil laugh, AND he even pushes an old lady down the stairs!
that obituary was savage lol
Seeing Richard Widmark as creepy Tommy was a hoot. Not at all like he was later in his career. Also seeing Karl Malden was a shock. All looked like kids.
Widmark's portrayal of a goon is next level. Threw her right down those stairs.
Looks like they might've stole a scene from Whatever Happened To Baby Jane with Better Davis and Joan Crawford.
@marcos7801 Kiss of Death was made 15 years earlier than Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.
Awesome movie, thanks so much for sharing and the quality upload
They simply do not make movies to the standard of this classic anymore. How I wish I were seeing these great movies for the first time. Richard Widmark was one of the all-time Hollywood greats.
Devo ser um pouco mais velho do que você. Widmark foi sem duvida um grande ator mas ao lado de muitos outros de sua geração, uma época realmente de ouro do chamado cinema clássico, um período que abrangeu de 1930 a 1950!
Weird that neither my grandparents or grandma spoke of going to these when they were young....
Pushing that poor woman in the wheelchair down the stairs!😢
Oh to be a hat maker in those days. I'd be a rich man!
Read in 1700's USA, better dress hats were handed down 3 generations from father to son etc. as it was not a throw a way society and you took care of your Sunday best hat. Sure glad we don't have them now
@@sst6555hat boxes became some to add to your decor, lol
Victor Mature was a great actor and extremely easy on the eyes. 👀
I loved him as Samson and The Egyptian.
Amazing movie!
Handsome man has it all gret actor and. Allways good in anything he ever did rip Beuitfull man❤
Excellent movie! Riveting! Seen it several times!
Victor Mature was great! “Tommy” was terrifying.
The great Richard Widmark.
Victure Mature retired early from Hollywood to enjoy his golf
*Yep he said that he only acted to make enough money to retire. And*
*he did. He was a beautiful man. WOW. Married 5 times...first was annulled*
*and the last one lasted from 1974 until his death at 86 (Leukemia) RIP*
Love this movie 🎥🎥🎥🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎥🎥🎥
I would love if we went back to dressing like this. Minus the uncomfortable shoes. 👠
And the smoking
@@TransparencyandMerit: Yes! It looked great, but it’s poison. 🚬☠️
I agree. Stylish :)
But not with pants pulled up over the navel.
@@beryllium1932: Better than pants sagging under the butt cheeks.
Besides, high-waisted pants came with a dress shirt, tie, and jacket. And usually suspenders and a waistcoat. I wouldn’t mind at all. 😊
One of the known noirs,a good one!! Probably the 3d time watching it!
The cleverness of Henry Hathaway in this noir gem can be better notice in these silence moments.
He is a master delaying the burst of action and violence using very long impasses and a brilliant use of atmospheres and tension
Great movie, great acting. Richard Whitmark's character, Udo, was creepy. Gave me the chills. The role reminded me of the Riddler's character in the 1960s Batman series. Widmark however modeled his Udo character after the Batman comics archenemy, the Joker. Frank Gorshin, who played the Riddler in the TV series, modeled his deranged cackle after Widmark's Udo.
My x hubby looked EXACTLY like him. How could I resist. But eventually....o well😊
This film is also called I wake up Screaming
Thanks for these quality gems❤❤❤❤
Fantastic movie it’s on now on Movies channel
Great movie.
Old prisons had so much natural sunlight inside them. Modern ones you can not tell day from night and the fluorescent tubes hum 24/4.
Something about Victor Mature , he always made other guys next to him on the silver screen look bad 😂
I love 💕 this 🎥 all I need is some 🍿
I need to restock 😂. Thank you for sharing.❤❤❤❤❤
When a defence lawyer gives you their word😅
I like the way he is with his wife and daughters a real man loves his family.
❤❤❤❤❤Victor how Handsome man they don't make him 😁 like that no more
Ooh my holy wokies.... he's straight 😂😂😂😂
Victor Mature very handsome charmng great actid.
They don't make them like Coleen Gray anymore either.
The Hollywood glitter as penetrated your brain and senses.
Il film è bellissimo.mi chiedo solo perché non mettete la traduzione in italiano.....non siamo in Scozia... precisamente siamo in italia.io.a. Genova.....👍
Tommy's character reminds me of Bill Skarsgård's portrayal of Penny the Clown in Stephen King's IT. Bill's audition tape is shockingly close.
Victor Mature was indeed a fine actor, and this is one of his most satisfying roles. At his best, Mature displayed strength with more than an hint of vulnerability. To be sure, a gifted artist.
Nick sitting in jail on the east coast all the while on the west Andy and Red making friends roofing.
Notice the flag had no gold fringe? Gold fringe denotes Martial Law.
The Italian Gangster Joey Gallo was obsessed with Udo Character so much he would emulate him his entire life.
"Maria Biano died by putting her head in the gas oven"😂 wtf?
Carbon monoxide poisoning. A thing back then. Painless.
@kevino4846 ah....ok..ok. Thanks. I'm so stupid 🤣
@@ramtron1775It's okay, nothing to get depressed about. But stay away from the gas oven just in case🤪
They actually deleted the scene regarding the incident due to censorship. Also, deleted and censored was Maria's (Nick's first wife) rape by one of Udo's men who was supposed to protect her while his case was pending. So it was decided Nick tell what happened to Maria.
Yeah the papers and public notices were a really odd thing back then.
A Mr and Mrs would announce a marriage that hadn't actually happened to save grace from her unfortunate pregnancy and parents of a young Ms would announce their daughters travels across the pond for leisure 😂😂
Pillow gripping suspense. Victor Mature is the ultimate OG. Gangsta with a conscience. Paired with Brian Donlevy, a savvy street slime hustler. Hit men & squealers doing the dirty while the dolls stay at home. Shade throwing crescendo. 1:30:33 “Touch my family and you’ll hear singing like you’ve never heard before.” 👍
I heard the guy complained about everything VM that is a big baby they say he was afraid of everything he didn't want to get hurt
😊 tommy would of been a great Joker his fuckin laugh
Widmark himself was a big fan of Batman comics, and modeled Udo after The Joker.

@GEM: Film Library....
The internet says that Victor Mature has appeared in more than 70 films.
Can you upload more of them? Thnx!

Good one. Thanks.
I always thought that Vic Mature was one of the handsomest actors of the 40s and 50s
great voice...Richard Widmark the consummate psychopath
No bullet proof vest
Where are the titles ? It's important !
Top movie
Richard whitmark is one scary dude
But a lovely family orientated man in real life
Richard Widmark plays the character of an arrogant punk quite well, but his portrayal of a real badass leaves me laughing out loud. His demeanor is of that kind of person who lets his "boys" do the real wet work. But he is a psycho and his giggly mouthful of teeth just do not help this picture's believability. His giggling sounds really familiar.
I thought that was him, he looks so young but you can't mistake that laugh.
Like the part where his fingers got blown off holding the dynamite
Richard Widmark wasn’t first choice to play Tommy Udo.
But he was the best choice.
@@hoodoo2001 I agree ☝️
He should have been first choice to play a role like that anytime. The "look".
@@kevino4846 actor Richard Conte was supposed to play Tommy Udo
I'm here for Tommy Udo, hehehe.
Ya squirts!
This was a good movie love the old black and white movie's the actors we're much better even if it's about a 🐁🐁🐁
enjoy a black and white flick; color overall is better especially in real outdoor scenes for one. Actors are just as. good today; if not better; much if it though is the talent of the script writers. and the huge improvements available to the directors in camera, lighting, special affects etc.
And the year ?
I know it’s “Just a movie” but there is no way some shot 4 times at close range with a .45 survives until the ambulance gets there. 🙂↔️

where? The guy is Jerry Orbach, baby's dad in Dirty Dancing. I don't think he is in this one

Victor Mature and Jerry Orbach do look similar

Wouldn't it be ironic if Victor Mature threw temper tantrums?
Was t that Arrt Carney at 8 minutes in? BEFORE his Norton days! 😊
I think his name is Millard Mitchell. He co-starred in 12 O'clock High with Gregory Peck. Great movie, excellent supporting actor!
