- IN THIS VIDEO, I START BUILDING THE HITCH PLATE FOR THE REAR OF THE F750. I START WITH A PIECE OF 1/2" PLATE STEEL. I LAY IT OUT THE WAY I THINK WILL WORK BEST FOR ME. THEN I START CUTTING THE PIECES OF 3/8" PLATE FOR MY GUSSETS / REINFORCEMENTS. I SHOW A NEW MILWAUKEE SAW THAT I WISH I HAD BOUGHT YEARS AGO! THE MILWAUKEE 2982-21 8" M18 METAL CUTTING SAW. WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD IF YOU DO MUCH OF THIS! ENJOY!
HERE IS A LINK TO MILWAUKEE'S WEBSITE AND THE SPECS ON THIS SAW:

That saw is so slick!
I didn't know that I needed a Mag drill or that metal saw but both are on the list
There is never a need to justify additional strength.
"Nothing ever broke that was built too strong."
Hell for stout is a good thing.
Thanks for sharing.
Holy cow that saw went through that plate like plywood! "This tool makes me better than I am" Hey don't beat yourself up there fella. You do a damn fine fabrication job.
Amen...
Just what I was thinking that saw is a game changer.
looking good, I'm a big fan of doing things overkill, especially if its safety related.
i have re-named this project...it is now called "OVERKILL".
Excellent video keep up the great videos 👍👍👍👍I have the corded version of that same Milwaukee metal and I cut thru all kinds of iron when I do fabrication and repair work i have cut thru 2 9/16" solid steel shafts and plates and pipes and chanells and angle iron I leave the blade at full depth most of the time I feel that it helps to keep it cool I very seldom need to replace the blade. A couple of years ago a customer wanted me to build a over head gantry to take apart his large tractors we made it out of used steel tubing. Well he had a brand-new evolution 10 inch metal saw that he was bragging about I made a cut on 3 x 4 inch heavy wall tubing and the teeth came off of the blade so I put a new blade on and got 2 cuts and the blade was shot. I told him that when I come there again I will bring a real metal saw and I brought my Milwaukee saw with a used blade and then made over a 100 cuts and then 100 or more cuts after that job. To start with he said that my saw will not be any better than his he ate crow big time when the job was done and I kept rubbing it in. Happy New Year to you and your wife
"We" use 3/4" plate for tow plates.
I cope the sides to let the frame rails into the tow plate so I can get full welds on both sides of the tow plate to the frame.
The angles that get cut off the lower part of the tow plate make dandy gussets to the frame.
You did fantastic on this tow plate.
You wouldn't believe how many people don't support the back side of that receiver tube!
And, nice job getting me to want a Milwaukee steel circ saw!
We have the M18 weed eater and chain saw so we have the 12 amp hour batteries,,, Heavy Duty !!
I love it when you drag out another brand new Milwaukee.
Hi JC, congrats on getting that saw. I got the corded one six years ago and it is still going strong. For thinner metals, I use a guide (piece of tubing or whatever). Also, the Milwaukee blades are the best. Big box stores carry slightly smaller equivalent blades but are not nearly as good for longevity.
I want one of them saws! You're going to pull the world with that hitch!
i will run out of motor before the hitch maxes out!
Strong back or gussets always good. My last one is 1/2 in T1 and I designed it for bolt on. Is on my second truck . Moving the pintle is nice versus fighting trailers. Two things bit late , receiver punch another hole so can be slid in with ball towards diff. This clears it of safety chain clearance and you have it there versus bouncing in tool box. Painting backside of plate white makes it lighter to see when doing bolts or if ever have problems with electrical or air. Nice work
no room in the rear of the receiver tube to slide it in.
Welcome to the wonderful world of carbide circular saws!! Congrats on the new saw! That Diablo on my worm drive saw throws hot chips like you wouldn't believe, that's one thing I need to figure out still, and you have to be careful to make sure you're applying enough pressure... but not too much, all at the same time. I feel the same way when I cut something, it's soooo nice that it's smooth, straight, and not even hot! I also learned to always clamp down a fence since it's easy to get off the line and hard to "bend" the saw back straight again.
perhaps the reason your saw is throwing so many hot chips is the rpm of the saw is too high. the rpm of this saw and my evolution chop saw seem lowing than regular saws.
@@j.c.smithprojects Yes, they are, they are rated much lower SFM, which is why I mounted my Diablo blade on a worm drive circ saw, but it's actually rated for the RPM of most circular saws, however, I don't think most would have the torque required. Also, the gap is massive and you can see the blade chucking chips at your eyeballs, which is what I'm trying to remedy now. Still LOVE it compared to the alternatives!
Don't knock your skills, that's a great piece of fab work and you'll pull a house down with that. Love that saw too.
I am a big fan of right tool for the right job. It makes the world of difference. Great choice and review.
That circular saw is incredible, I’m going to have to put one on my wish list lol the work you do is top notch 👌🏼 job well done
Super nice sir! You've got me itching for the finished product.
we are not even half way through this project yet! so much more to do!
Love the channel!👍. I always saw you in LiveStreams/Chats, but I finally got around to Watching some of your Videos......Awesome!👍😁👍
When it's your life and equipment there is no such thing as overkill! 😁
Looking good, I've had my metal cutting saw for a couple months now and it has cut my fab job times in half, definitely worth the price.
Holy metal plates
Loving a job well done.
Great video. Lots of inspiration for my 56 f800
Nicely done sir some amazing fab skills and attention to detail.keep up the great work JC.
Mr. J.C. Smith , Very nice hitch build ! Looks like your new saw is doing that deal . Love your videos and information/ guidance , keep up the great work . Hope you and your family has a happy NEW YEAR !
Once again right tools for the job at hand makes the work go easier faster and better. With Mrs. JC looking on she can see why you buy the needed tools and see them earn their keep. That hitch set up should withstand anything ask of it. Thanks again for taking us along. Wishing you Mrs. JC and family a Happy New Year. Tom
she thinks the saw is worth it weight in gold....i have to agree!
Love the Saw . Great Job
Proper strong job JC, the new saw is a good investment, goes through plate steel like it's butter !!!
Every fab shop should have 1 of those saws. I can't believe the cut is that smooth.
Looks nice, every one is better than before!
Definitely how I'm going to do mine.
I'm very impressed with the saw
The back end looks “ nice and tidy” . Love the new brakes 👍
Congrat from France......me and my son are actualy building his hitch on his truck and your vidéo is exatly what we needed.....you re our Santa clauss.....lol👍👍👍😂😂😂😂😂
Nice overkill. It never hurts
Holy Hitch, batman! You'll go through uJoints, axle shafts, tires, and engines before you damage that hitch! Nice work! Very nice fabrication! Thanks for sharing!
Happy New Year to all. Thank you for such informative and entertaining video’s year in year out.. God Bless 2021 👍
was impressed how fast it cut, and battery lasted.
Very good saw, Nice work too.
I have been on the fence about one of those sauce for a long time! I was going to get accorded version but now I'm just going to buy the M18 thanks man!!
I bought the 10 inch corded version of that metal cutting saw about 15 years ago and I LOVE it! We call it the "magic saw". If you're using it to cut a piece of metal that is beeing held in your bench vise, just be careful, you could easily cut right through your bench vise and not even know it. LOL
That's why a lot of fire departments are going to battery operated lot easier to use and faster to use you only good as the two you got
Beautiful fab job. I remember when you would tack these types of jobs up & wait for your son to finish weld them, not anymore. That hitch is gonna be a tank!
i was going to do just that this time as well but he is out of town for 5 days.
That Milwaukee saw is a hoss. Impressive power and finish cut edges. I am as impressed with your saw as you are.
I just purchased the corded version. I have the Dewalt cordless version and it isn’t worth a darn at cutting plate. It overheats and goes through batteries so I was hesitant to get the M18. Good to know it works so well.
That was a nice saw. Happy Holidays. Great work, love the videos.
I had the corded version of that saw roughly 10 years ago..it worked well..but i found the blades to dull quickly..sometimes chip the carbides..maybe using it on 1/8th plate steel is why..the metal has more give..idk . At the time the blades at the weld shop i believe were $50 a piece..after buying 5 within 2 months i decided to sell it..lets hope you have a better experience with that issue because they do work nice
so far so good. i inspected the blade after i finished cutting everything and it was just like new.
better to over build it, than build it and have it fail!! Looks like it would pull a train no problem!! lol, Take care Mr and Mrs JC
Happy New Year to you and your family. Thanks for all the great videos they have helped me get through this last year. They are instructive and give me an insight into real American living, Tell your wife I watch her channel too and it’s great apart from the sound I hope Santa brought her some better technology for Christmas. Take care and best wishes for the New Year. Sláinte.
Nice work!
I like the plate/hitch set up! Far stronger than necessary and safe! Well done! Personally I also try to overdue safety related builds. Specially straping things down. 20k lbs. worth of tie-downs for a 5k lbs. item.
It's nice watching what you are doing, it would even nicer if we could hear all of what you were saying.
Great job as usual Happy New Year Michael UK
The truck is looking great. Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones .
I see that saw being pretty nice when you cut truck frames. I am amazed saw blades can hold up the way they do
Hey JC , Nicely Done! Amazing Job ! Happy New Year! The tools are the answer, I wish I could have had some of them 15 years ago, life could have been easier for me . For my truck build. Very nice 👍 Regards Bob Lee
Interesting content, very much enjoyed it! TY
Here's a tip for using hole saws in thick materials if you drill a 1/2 inch hole beside the hole saw cut the cuttings will go down the hole I will usually drill 2 one across from the first one will cut considerably quicker.
appreciate the tip. i will try it next time!
interesting to see you building this stuff, greetings from Belgium
G'day enjoying this build great work mate
Mr. JC Love your little wrench and mag drill. Very informative video. Stay safe
i have had that mag drill for a few years and it works flawlessly.
Awesome drill
That custom hitch plate is flat out cool! Great idea making the pintle hook as adjustable as possible. That should pay off great down the road. The Milwaukee saw you picked up looks like it makes life WAY easier. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out👍.
that saw is worth its weight in gold! i wish i would have got it years ago!. this project has a looooong way to go. we are not even half way there yet!
Looks good! Nice and girthy. I like it
Great Video, that saw is awesome.
Great video JC that saw is awesome. That 2in Reese hitch will have no problem handling 20,000 lbs.
I just bought the corded version. I haven’t used it yet but I’m sure that I will like it
That's an *awesome* hitch J.C! 😲 I like how you built it for any situation! That saw makes quick work of that steel. Its downright amazing how fast it cuts through the steel!! That will definitely come in handy 😀 I hope you and the misses have a great new years. 🥳🔧
wish i had bought this years ago. i would have a lot less burn scars from the torch!
LOVE that saw!! Also great work, heaps of talent in your hands. By the way, you could do the best Jack Nicholson impression ever, you sound so much like him! Thanks for the great channel too,
Awesome video
That saw is impressive, and I do a LOT of fabricobbling myself. I might have to check into something like that. I have been known to cut 1/2" plate with a grinder and a cut off wheel because I like the ease of zero clean up compared to cutting with a torch and grinding.
i agree with the clean cut of an abrasive wheel. however, i was impressed with how clean i was able to cut 1" plate with a torch recently. i did very little grinding. great for places you cant get to with saws.
Have the corded saw for years there’s no going back once you got it I’ve cut 1inch no problem
That's a hell of a hitch sir
No such thing as overbuilt, Looks great!
happy new year soon JC hope your Christmas was great.
those takeoffs are goldmine for those misc parts that always end up needing. project looking good JC
i was impressed with that saw that is the dogs, i like your 100 ton tow hitch.
Great vid
Awesome job JC I think you’re a bit better fabricator then you give yourself credit for👍🏼 hope you have a happy new year
Nice saw
Nice love it
I have a Tractor Supply corded version of that metal cutting saw. They're awesome!! Just be careful cutting thin metal like roof sheets. They have a tenancy to jump and grab and it breaks the carbide tips off the blade and then there goes $100 for a blade. I also have the Northern Tool brand 14'' chop saw like that too.
The metal shop i use can cut the holes cheap if you give them the layout when you buy the plate, the last one i got was only 45 for all the holes cnc cut.
My local shop is also pretty cheap but their cnc cuts pretty sloppy. Holes wind up being cones in thicker plate.
I have had great experience with them spot on saved a ton of time
144👍's up thanks again for taking your time for us all to be with you for the great build
That's definitely a nice saw
that mag drill is sweet . it works well I think
Love the truck by the way
Nice work JC you make me work on my trucks too
Nice job
Love the channel..
Wassup JC hope you had an awesome Christmas and have a happy new year
Lol that's like a 100,000 pound rated hitch, I love it
I like the you beef it up it will work 👍
Great video....that saw is cool, maybe a video of the Milwaukee collection sometime!
it is getting pretty sizable. i have not regretted any of the purchases so far.
CNC end mill would help with a lot of that
Fantastic video JC!
The truck fab and that new Milwaukee saw is awesome. Nice tool and very nice build. Work safe, stay warm!
Doug@ the "ranch"
this was the good day! the day after.....not so good!
The truck will fail before that Hitch, Nice job, appreciate the work you do
Welp i guess i might as well toss it in there though everybody else has allready hell of a job thats gonna look real good when its all finished! and that saw is badass def suprised me! But it is a milwaukee dont think they have produced any junk yet!
It's never over kill, it's thinking of safety first.
👍from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
That is some bracing...really not overkill considering how much force could be against the truck if you’re hauling some heavy equipment. I really like it! 🤩 Where do you get the light assemblies? That light / air setup is really cool ! I’m thinking of doing that to my REO when I make it a tractor again. You gotta show this when you get it painted. Are you gonna weld it to the frame or bolt it ? The back of that Ford is gonna look pretty cool. I would say that you’ll be set up to pull ANYTHING. That will be one truck to keep. Happy New Year, buddy! 🥳
I welded it to the truck frame. i should be able to tow anything the engine has enough power to pull.
Don’t know if you follow Dirt Perfect or not but he just bought a 6x6 Army Paystar and is going to be stretching the frame to put a 16foot dump box on it. He’s been told to maybe get in touch with you about how to do it!
i watch mike. i saw his paystar. neat truck for sure.
Looks good, better to go heavy and it stays in place.
