    Those welds look exceptionally good for 'not being a welder.' The wife is a cool lady. Nice to see a woman who can share the same interests with you and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. That hitch looks really beefy. Great work man!

    The way you have it on the outside of the frame is stronger than it would be inside the frame, and like what you said, it's mine and I will do it my way. If someone wants it different then they can do it on their truck. Awesome job. Paint runs is just more paint where it's needed.

      there is a huge difference between me and a welder. a welder can reproduce the same weld with proper penetration and technique over and over. i on the other hand get lucky every now and then but not consistent. i ground out almost all the welds before i am still mastering the grinder....not the welder yet.

  • @seankirkpatrick8171
    @seankirkpatrick8171 Před 3 lety

    A German machinist I worked for explained it like this, a 1/2 of weld will hold around as much as a 1/2 bolt. I was fabricating a steel door for the GM plant in Leeds KS. The reason he told me was because I was wasting time weeding more than I needed to to get it done. If you add up your welds I’d say you had enough to hold the hitch and 2-3 or more than that truck would ever be able to pull. Most people look at others work with a critical eye and default to critical comments just to have some input. It’s usually not meant to be offensive but usually comes off that way. Thanks for the video

    The air line running from air bag to air bag is tight enough for a g flat.
    If it were 1" longer, a feller could use a couple loom clamps to attach it to the 3/8" plate right there behind it.
    BTW, I never said you HAD to cope out your tow plate. It is just how I do mine, that are on tandem axle trucks with 40 ton pintle hitches.
    You are 100% correct, that tow plate will handle WAY more than the truck can handle.

    Way to go Mrs Smith tearing those old battery boxes off the truck. I'm most impressed indeed. Few folks would tackle a task like that with the determination and gusto you showed!
    What a neat trick to allow the mix of water and diesel to freeze so that you can get the clean diesel out and leave the frozen water behind. I guess you have summer and winter diesel in those tanks on trucks - will the summer grade wax up and be troublesome going through your shop heater at all?

    OVERKILL on Jan 1, 2021! 🤩 Happy New Year, JC and everyone else, too! Years ago, HOTSHOTS were the rave in trucking. There are some of those still out there...that’s what these glorified toters are. I can see you putting a pickup bed on that thing, but I’m not sure that’s where you are heading. Or are you? That hitch plate: You set it up for your needs and did it the way you wanted to, so that’s not overkill. I’ve seen them done a few ways, and that’s fine, but some did it in a manner that you could tell that they were rushed and ended up cutting corners. You’ve made it to last! 🧐 Those 120 gal tanks...Oh Sweet looking. They’ll get you there and then some! I’ve mentioned my old REO...My thought is to set it up pretty close to what you’re doin with this Ford. I want my truck to look good and be a good cruising truck at the same time. I won’t be afraid to work it when it’s needed either. I’ve got a lot to do on it! I’m glad you’re doing this project and will watch what you’re doing so I can see things that I may be able to use on my truck. So, Thanks in advance! 🤩

      No pick up truck bed for me. this truck is being built to be as versatile as possible. i want it to be able to travel short and long distances comfortably, tow any trailer i hook to it , carry tools and equipment needed to fix my trucks away from home, carry auxillary fuel, and still be short enough to get into the parking lots in town. we have a long way to go for sure. big changes are coming.

    How much ground clearance will those tanks have ? As much reserve as you'll have..it would be great to add a 12v transfer pump on one side for fueling up everything..meals on wheels for the diesels lol

      that is exactly my plan. 10" of ground clearance. just about the same as the 24" tall tool boxes will have that i am putting under the bed.

    Runs just let you know you have enough paint on it.

    Are you (or can you) flip the tanks so that the fill cap is behind the vs under the door? Looks like it’d be a challenge to get a fuel nozzle in there under the cab.

      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 3 lety

      its funny you say that. i am flipping the tanks side to side but not for the reason you mentioned. the next video should explain.

    I like it so far, you wouldn’t happed to be thinking about making it 4wd? That transfer case you were robbing parts from last week has me wondering...

    Man that hitch is awesome! I really like the flat and round pin wiring plugs. I pull an electric brake trailer with my international 4300 and ended up getting an adapter but still had to move a couple wires in the adapter. Can you show some detail when you wire it? Are you on Facebook?

  • @exploringpeco
    @exploringpeco Před 3 lety

    No it's not over kill cause you don't want it coming back on you if the trailer unhooked and all the force pulls the plate off so no better over engineer then under so saftey is key...

    Did you keep the bed off the yellow fl. to go on this truck

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  Před 3 lety

      i did but i wont be using that. the bulkhead is set up for a taller cab. it would require rebuilding it. i will be using something else.
