Lot of respect for Ben Foster. Seems like a genuine nice bloke which is always the most important factor. Shouldn’t judge others by how much money they earn, especially when its well deserved.
i dont get how you call this a brave move. he's literally making hundreds of thousands a year playing football in these talks. its not like he is earning a normal citizens wage
I get some of the criticism, but these guys are one of a select group (numbering in the several hundreds) of the best in the world in a sport that is highly popular and financially lucrative. People don't give anywhere near the same amount of stick to, say, pretty people (models, actors). Footballers are not the reason the mines closed or the reason people in the NHS aren't making enough. That's not where their money comes from. The only thing I'd say is that I'd like clubs and players to contribute to making the cost of going the game lower now that matchday revenue isn't that significant in relation to TV revenue, although I have no idea how to make sure that doesn't end up in touts' pockets.
Incredibly open about his wages. What a top bloke. From what you’ve done on this podcast, Ben, you’ve brought professional footballer into a state of realism the rest of us can understand.
I was indirectly working for West Brom during Ben’s last season. I built the spreadsheet for the club that tracks all the bonuses. It had to track each appearance, how many minutes played and the result of the match. Some players had bonuses that would only trigger if the result was a win and some would get different amounts for win, lose or draw. There were some super-complicated formulas in there and as a nerd I loved building it!
@anandchaudhary1675 because for some reason it's fine to have a go at someone for earning a lot of money, but the worst thing ever to criticise someone who makes barely any
Foz was worth every penny , West Brom have been blessed with good keepers over the years but i think Foz is deffo up there with the best we have had in our recent history , and in my lifetime, my first game was 1990
My mum was a baggies fan so went to a good few games when he was there, remember in the 2011/12 season where I think he was only on loan and he made this amazing triple save against Blackburn where all the fans started chanting "sign him sign him sign up sign him up!"
@@austinberwick4927wba is a big club you probably don't know there history 5 fa cups founder members won top division and league Cup was brilliant in 50s 60s and 70s. 82 seasons in top flight too. Big big club underachieving because of a terrible owner
I find this content super interesting and you shouldn’t be embarrassed about the money. It gives us normals an insight into the world of football. Thanks Ben love it
When 99% of people watching this would give there right arm to have 2 weeks of his wages annually after the pay cut - foz still comes across super humble and understands that
Massive respect Ben, finally someone comes out and is honest with how it all works. We know theres loads of money involved no need to be embarrassed or hide it. Hope there's a part two with your next contract
As a West Brom fan I adored this man for years always such great representative for the club and best possible compliment I could give a man is seems like a great man to go for pint with
Really enjoyed listening to the Podcast Fozzy, I have an enormous amount of respect for you. Being a West Brom fan I was gutted when you left like most of us baggies fans. It goes to show what a proper club West Brom were before we got in the situation were in now. I'd certainly like to gauge your thoughts on the situation at West Brom in your next podcast.
Massive massive respect to Ben for disclosing his salary back then. I always like him at United very very steady keeper who definitely deserved more chances at United but I suppose at the time he was stuck behind Edwin. Nobody’s fault. Cheers Ben!
Guess it's incentive to a tally impress the manager and train hard so you get picked and get more, after hearing this it baffles me how some players down tools, and become bench warmers when you could be earning even more by just actualy trying
@@JadePGC Ye that’s true. Not all players have appearance bonus and some will different to others but I get what you mean. On the whole a striker usually has a goal bonus and a defender a clean sheet bonus which is also a bit wild as that’s their job 😂
I really wasn't expecting West Brom to be paying wages like that 10 years ago and the add ons on top. Fair play to him for being so open. It's a decent years salary coming in every week of the year at a club most likely to be in the bottom 5 in the league every year. I'm off to turn myself into one of those pushy parents 😂.
Thank you for this. Interesting stuff. I've never heard you speak but watched your career throughout. Great to listen to a footballer who sounds like a normal person. All the best
This is great insight. But, we have to be real here- the level of disconnect between these amounts of money and the average person (even a well-earning person) is absolutely insane. How anyone can argue against a 45% top tax rate is ludicrous to me, it is perfectly valid.
Great video from an Albion legend and really interesting to hear the behind the scenes knowledge. As a West Brom fan it would be great to hear you do a video on the state of our club at the moment. Us Albion fans are worried that we could lose the club if we don’t get a sale!
Really interesting insight into contract and wage structures. Nice to hear that your kids are baggies too. All the best in your retirement 2.0 👍😊 BOING BOING .....
Fair play for the honesty. I would have guessed that his basic at a middling prem club at that time was nearer the £25k relegation-reduced amount than £40k but then the TV deals have come a long long way since the original 5-year contract which started in 1992/93 (£304 million or thereabouts in total). Would be interesting to hear what Newcastle offered him last year. Boaz Myhill's daughter evidently thought he was insane to turn it down but he'd clearly made plenty already.
It’s brave because it’s not really talked about by players, it’s interesting and amazing for us fans to know all aspects of the game, it’s good to know. Ofcourse some insecure people will be weird about it
Fair play ben, players wages is summat as footy fans that we constantly hear about and something (for some reason) that we are always interested about. His honesty is brilliant and its so interesting to listen to about bonuses etc. As a utd fan i would love to know what his contract was when he was there, mayb a follow up video?
Ben foster on fifa 18 i signed him to Santos laguna for 1 season for £1.5M then Ben foster said nah I'm taking my go pro and my bike back to west brom and they payed £3M to get him back
Super interesting, good on Ben explaining this. They get very good bonuses apart from the fantastic wages. Lol it pains me heari g this knowing I ruined my chances to play pro football by pissing about
I know people get stick for how much they earn but honestly, I thought you would’ve earned more. Some people are jealous plain and simple….but if the tables were turned they wouldn’t turn the money away. Earn what you can and enjoy your life.
Well Done Ben. Lovely Guy. 64 Bags from The Baggies for that week including a losing game and that does not include the £1,000,000 Bonus paid, annually, in four stages, over the 4 year contract..
Lot of respect for Ben Foster. Seems like a genuine nice bloke which is always the most important factor. Shouldn’t judge others by how much money they earn, especially when its well deserved.
In a country where we're so judgmental of peoples earnings, this is a really brave move to put this out there. Kudos, Ben.
Really unfortunate that people are so jealous and insecure that any discussion or insight into money is triggering to them

Big respect for this. No need to be embarassed about how much you earned, but also respect that you have no obligation to put it out there.
Madness, big respect. He earned 40K a week ahahahah how embarrassing for him. Or only 25K a week.
why would anyone be embarrassed when they earn 40k a week that too more than 10 years ago.

At the time I thought he was better than Joe Hart, I really think he should’ve been England’s no.1 from 2012-2016.

Great insight. Baggies best goalkeeper of modern times. Shame the current owner has ruined our great club #wba
There is still a huge banner of Ben in the Albion concourse in the Brummie road end. A true hero of our club and loved immensely.
As a West Brom fan I love the content and the way you talk about us. Just like every other club it seems you’ve been to we loved you here to! Legend
Fair play for sharing this info Ben.
This is why we need big foz the openness the down to earth attitude and actually telling fans information people shy away from
Thumbs totally up for being so open about money!
Peter crouch set pace with this idea, of going through his player contract. Love how foster has followed, super interesting
Scary money, this was 10ish years ago as well😮
I'm a west brom and ben foster is the greatest goalkeeper we have ever had lots of love for ben
I had no idea that Ben was on that sort of money 10years ago, Incredible!
Just shows you how lucrative football contracts are at the top level, insane amounts of money being thrown around
and this is west brom not the big teams like man utd man city and so on
Foster was cheap tbh

Hardly. For PL with the amount of money they make this isn’t earth shattering
Clubs are spending less than historically on transfers and wages as a % of total revenue.
