    Coming from decades of 3 and 5 series ownership, of various engine sizes and types, and moving to the Giulia Veloce last April, I'd say the extra is worth it. Every single time I see or drive my Giulia, I have a massive smile. It is a blast to drive and even sat in traffic, it is special. I regularly have people walk up and start chatting \ complimenting the car. I can't recall that ever happening in the Beamers, despite some being at the more exotic end of the scale.

    This must be one of the most beautiful sedans I’ve seen, timeless design.
    In my opinion

    A enlightening video James. If the average buyer knew how much a car really costs out of the household budget, my guess is that they wouldn't touch PCP / leasing. And yet many are lured by the headline monthly figure only.

    • @sx200n1
      @sx200n1 Před rokem

      True, but for many they can't afford to buy a new (or even newish) car otherwise. Yes getting a loan to buy the car will get a much lower APR but PCP also gives security that if things go belly up with your job, there is a way to give the car back and exit the deal. So for many it is the only way to do it.

    I bought a Giulia Veloce, with the same 19" diamond cut alloys and misano blue paint, in Nov 2017, and I still have it. Prices were much lower back then! The list price was just under £40K back then (without the yellow callipers which would have taken it over £40K), so I avoided the higher road tax. The PCP deal was 0%, plus the dealer discounted the factory-ordered car by around £7000, meaning the car was only £33K. Whilst it's been the best car I've ever owned, I wouldn't be buying it at the prices you're citing. Surely there are cheaper deals out there? I've just used CarWow and have had an offer from the Alfa dealer in Derby for £40728 for the same car, so a discount of around 8% - better than nothing. Not sure what discounts you could get on the BMW....

    • @ParkersTV
      @ParkersTV  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s pretty good value Paul! You’re right, though, no doubt there’s cheaper deals out there, but they can fluctuate so we used the list price for both cars to keep things fair.

      There's brand new 22 reg giulias for £36k-38k on autotrader, don't think anyone will be paying £43k for base spec

      @guywerb Před 2 lety +1

      Same for me here in Belgium. Bought the exact same car (paint, rims, yellow calipers) with pretty much all the options (sunroof, electronic suspension, etc.) and around the same time. Got a 16% discount on the official purchase price. I think they really needed to sell the car litterally at all cost back then. Now, with the Stellantis backing, they're probably a little bit less desperate... A stunning car at a bargain price, I couln't resist. And I'm so happy I didn't. That car is a blast (and I came from a BMW)!

  • @dinosaurnews125

    It’s scary how much these cars cost, I don’t think most buyers break the figures down like that. It would be interesting to have the depreciation figures too though.

  • @jerehada
    @jerehada Před 2 lety +1

    really useful a real Total Cost of ownership comparison. When are higher used prices going to filter down into lower PCP deals? i.e. retained value at end of term higher than predicted. I just did the same for my purchased 18 months ago nearly new alfa quadrifoglio. I used mortgage offset but my numbers total £770 per month .... even with 23 mpg! TBF depreciation could be much higher than current 4k per year but equally I used 12k miles when I do half of that. Even if depreciation ramps up I would still be much lower TCO. BUT message is companies are making a killing on finance on a car.

    All that money over the three years and you don't even own the thing at the end of it.

  • @johncee1481
    @johncee1481 Před 8 měsíci

    So essentially you have to have money to burn to own one. Or you're OK losing 2000 z month plus depreciation.

  • @bozhanaleksandrov4447

    And imagine living in Bulgaria like me where the car actually cost 70k Euro and working as IT for 1k a month, well I can afford this car only if they offer me a 30-year payment plan :D

    Wow, you've got some crazy prices in UK. Here in Ukraine (before the war... ) the base model was about 40.000 USD (30k GBP?) for the 200BHP RWD model and something like 50k USD for the AWD 280BHP version.

    • @Idevendrasen
      @Idevendrasen Před 2 lety +1

      That £43k is list price but noone pays full price for Giulias. You can get brand new 280hp RWD between £35-38k which is about $50k. We can only get RWD drive Giulias in the UK.

    • @livolas
      @livolas Před 2 lety +1

      @@Idevendrasen during the pandemic i managed to get a 280 awd with most options for 36900 eur, which is currently 31k gbp. I think list prices are currently borderline insane.

    • @mirnuja1
      @mirnuja1 Před 2 lety

      @@Idevendrasen how do these listing/non-listing prices work? You look for some kind of sales or best deals or something?

    • @Idevendrasen
      @Idevendrasen Před 2 lety +1

      @@mirnuja1 Well the list price is the reccomended retail price for dealers. But Alfa Romeo's aren't that desirable so no one at least in the UK would pay full price in cash for one. However about 90% of brand new cars in UK is leased so the list price affects the monthly payments.

    • @terryjones6504

  • @stevenhaas9622
    @stevenhaas9622 Před rokem

    And that's the rub. Enthusiasts and Alfisti might be willing to pay a little extra for the Giulia but the average buyer will not, especially with Alfa's dodgy reliability history. If Alfa really want to be competitive in the market then they also need to be less expensive than the more established german brands.
