    I just found your channel. I'm one of those who've tested the Giulia and was very impressed with it. But I've waited for the car to mature past the bugs. It's good to hear a detailed perspective on ownership, like yours. I also appreciate your advice about dealerships too: Do your due diligence. Thank you (two) for what you do to encourage ownership for fence-sitters like me. Keep on it.👍

      @@ModdedMotors All I'm saying is that I don't experience most of the issues that annoyed _me_ with the '17 model. For example, over the past year I've had the '21 model, it has not once gone into limp (and I drive it pretty hard). The auto-start/stop is much improved (though it would be great to be able to simply default it off/on if you wanted). The parking sensor shuts off in park (yea!). I never experienced any crackliness in connecting my mobile device via USB (did they tell you that all base models have this issue?; seems to me like it could be a wiring issue with a particular car). I also had some wonkiness with the environmental controls (seems like a temp sensor on one side had an issue) that I don't see in the current model. I get your point about turning off traction control as a tuner, but the car is pretty damn fun to drive even as-is, unless you're going onto a track.
      I've literally not taken the car in for anything other than an oil change.

  • @pentegal
    @pentegal Před 3 lety +39

    I had the Veloce version for 2 years and the only issue I had was a very small rubbing noise coming from the steering column which was fixed in 10 minutes and the offending misaligned spring replaced. 26k miles and that was the only single issue I faced. I then upgraded to the Quadrifoglio and currently 18 months in. Not a single issue, no dash warnings, no strange noises, nothing. I don't drive it gently either, I spank the life out of it but it just asks for more. Glad the issues you do have aren't putting you off.

      That’s my next plan as well! QV is definitely in the works, I’ve owned the brand since 2017 and been in love since. Alfa will for sure stay in my lineup of cars at all times. Worth it going QV for you?

    • @pentegal
      @pentegal Před 3 lety +2

      @@ModdedMotors It is a jump for sure in terms of costs but everything about it is just... It just works. It's comfortable when cruising but a quick flick of the dial and it becomes something else. No matter where I go the Quad gets looks all the time, it just stands out from the typical bunch of Germans you see on the road. If you have the money and don't need it then go for it. It's a giant waste of money to be fair but it's what I want to waste my money on and there is nothing else I see, around that price point, that feels 'worth it'.

    • @patrickanthony3632
      @patrickanthony3632 Před 2 lety

      Quick question since you have experience with the 2 trims! Would you trade a new Veloce with a used Quadrifoglio that has close to 100k miles?

    • @pentegal
      @pentegal Před 2 lety +3

      @@patrickanthony3632 It depends on your circumstances, mileage and such. I had both models new so no experience of the Quad at 100k miles. The Veloce is a great car, plenty of power, the looks and the ability to get decent MPG if you try. The Quad is something else, something you can't really put into words, if you're able to get a test drive, and be able to drive it hard, then you'll understand. If you're sensible then I'd hold onto the Veloce for the time being, the used car market is massively inflated and fuel costs are through the roof. In a few years, hopefully the market will have cooled off and fuel back to normal costs, at which point I'd say take a leap into the Quad. If money is no concern then just get the Quad, without hesitation.

    90% of the electrical gremlins are caused by bad/low battery (e.g., the start/stop system). In Europe there are workarounds for the factory restrictions (e.g., you can mod it to have the exhaust flaps open manually without having to be in race mode in the QV). Resale value is relatively the same as most other major brands in the category (BMW 3-series and Mercedes C-class). In Europe we also get the Multijet (Diesel) version which can be remapped to 300hp easily and offers great MPG for daily use.

    In SA 🇿🇦 there's the same issues of resale values (actually a worldwide issue) and shortage of dealerships and their general lack of knowledge on the mechanical aspects of the cars. That's actually what compounds the usual, but unfounded, stories of reliability issues of the brand. The difference though is that in South Africa there are a few aftermarket Alfa Romeo specialists, who definitely know more about mechanical repairs than the dealers so tons of people take their cars there.
    In SA though, we've sort of seeing prices of new and used versions of the Giulia's being sold by dealerships hold strong. I don't know if it's a Covid-19 and supply thing but in 2019, a 2017 Giulia Super (probably called a Ti or Sport in USA) sold for an X amount and now that model is probably X + 30%, which is significant. There's maybe only a few deals to be had privately but that's like 1 - 3 cars in the entire country lol.

    • @ModdedMotors
      @ModdedMotors  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s a great point! That’s why I’ve been doing all my own work. I actually had to show my local AR dealer a few things about the car which didn’t make me feel comfortable as they should be the experts. The more we have aftermarket companies willing to work on them I think the market will sustain.
      Most cars around the world have been steady with a chip shortage, it’s a really good place to be in for used car dealers. Unfortunately it looks like older cars will be keeping a strong resale.

    • @ModdedMotors
      @ModdedMotors  Před 3 lety +1

      Nice! Glad the HK sound system works flawlessly as we mentioned later in the video we recommend upgrading if people can. The AC will work but you cannot change levels is what we stated. This video is intended for future owners. We discussed Software, mechanical restrictions, aftermarket parts , dealers and resale in this video. Software issues are a factual known issue about Alfa Romeo’s this is not an opinion. This car does come mechanically restricted from factory and as a car enthusiast it is something to note. As a true car enthusiast I can tell you this has been a complaint for spirited drivers. If you’re familiar with aftermarket parts from other manufacturers it is a fact that Alfa has less partnered resellers in the state and this is an issue for me and potentially others who are use to modifying cars. It also is a fact that some states have a low availability of dealerships and something new owners should note. Resale is lower on these cars and that is also a fact not my personal opinion. I’m trying to forewarn owners from other brands coming to Alfa on what to expect. Just as reference I’ve sold cars for almost every manufacture and can tell you these are some points to help some people. I state that all these things do not deter me from purchasing the brand but owners should be prepared when purchasing. Every owner should do their own due diligence and research for themselves, these are things WE personally would’ve like to know before buying.
      We hope you enjoyed the video nonetheless and we appreciate your feedback.

    Good to see a US Alfa owner who loves their Alfa - with all its quirks. As a long time Alfa owner in Australia, I always feel really sorry for you guys in the US being dependent on dealers for servicing and repairs.
    No doubt its due to Alfa's long absence from the States prior to the 4C and the general unfamiliarity of their service teams with Alfa systems and so on that you get such hit/miss service which results in reports of poor reliability (compared to most of the world).
    Here in Australia, no one is forced to use a dealer for servicing (its illegal for warranties to restrict you to using a dealer) and there is a huge array of independent workshops which specialise in Alfas and other Italian marques. I've been going to the same workshop for 11 years which is owned by an old Italian fella and his boys, and has been in business for over 30 years. Brilliant work always, and they handle everything from the '40s/'50s through to current models. Even the local Alfa dealer, just up the road, sends cars there from time to time.
    For context, I haven't owned a recent model (eg Giulia or Stelvio) but am onto my 4th Alfa - a super rare 2002 156 GTA 3.2V6. Its now 21yo, has done over 250,000km and is a fantastic daily driver - great performer, fantastic sound from the Busso V6 (with its chromed air inlet runners surely the most beautiful factory engine spec in the world), brilliant handling, and the best looking sedan in the last 30 years. I also still have a 1981 2.0 Alfetta GTV coupe, and previously owned two more V6 156 sedans.

    What is the race mode that you're referring to for the 2.0L? I think I've seen the aftermarket add on but haven't looked much into it. Do you have a link?
    I have a 2020 TI Sport. Bright red with the upgraded brown leather, sports seats, upgraded sound system and dark 5 hole tires. The thing feels like a mini work of art to me. I just love being in it.
    My only "mod" to date was adding the red start bottom. Shipped from Italy, the dealership hadn't seen it before. They installed it for free for me but said they'd never do that again because it was $300 worth of work. #blessed

      Personally? Yes I’ve driven the car at top speeds and I agree it’s a very stable vehicle.
      But this car was produced for the general public. This is not a low production high performance Ferrari. Cars have been customized since the 50’s… it’s in car culture to modify cars. So saying why add stuff that doesn’t add performance.. well all add ons aren’t for performance. Most real car enthusiast see their cars as an extension of themselves. So “customizing” or “modifying” makes the car unique to that driver. So it is unfortunate when you have such a perfect car and limited ways to modify that vehicle to your personal preference. Be careful when you say "it never works in these cars." Mine has had zero issues with stop/start since purchase two years ago. Having owned Alfas in the 80's, I knew well to stay away from the first two years of the Giulia though. Alfas gonna Alfa. LOL On another note, having lived in Italy, I can only assume they didn't want people fidgeting with the a/c controls while in reverse. Gotta love that Italian logic. LOL Finally, as someone who has owned more than 30 automobiles over the years, I'm weary when I hear others quote JD Power results. They categorize design decisions as "problems" when customer's complain, thus skewing results of the brand model. For example, the a/c issue you mentioned would be considered a problem using their methodology when in fact, it's exactly how Alfa wanted it to function. The original miserable placement of the cupholders directly in front of the a/c unit would also be classified by JD Powers as a problem. Little things like that can quickly identify an otherwise dependable car as "low quality" when in fact, it's just quirks one deals with, which is typical if you're driving Italian. LOL In a world where cookie cutter four-doors are in every grocery store parking lot, the Giulia continues to stand apart from the crowd, several years later. They are.....gorgeous. As for resale, with the miles low, they will hold their own...at least in the southeast. Once enough future owners realize the car is more reliable than the naysayers claim, used prices will climb. For now though, Alfas off lease are great bargains!

      You can definitely get an extended warranty, Tom Winkels of Hayes Jeep sells Maxcare Mopar to a lot of people in the Alfa groups. Doesn’t matter where in the US to my understanding phone number (269)488-2080. A warranty isn’t needed but just know you have to pay out of pocket for expenses. Some dealers over charge for little things so it’s best if you can do the small stuff yourself. You won’t have any issue with an extended warranty and might save you money in the long run. 20k miles is low and shouldn’t have any issues, I’d ask to see what work has already been done to see if common warranty work has been done just to ease your mind. The engine is basically a jeep wrangler; so I don’t foresee any issues. The real issue is dealer network, although the cars are well tested and well built, dealers will price gouge. Appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences! I hope you enjoyed the video. Definitely some more flaws to be noted, glad you broke some down. Even after all the flaws I’d still buy it again 😅
      Coming from modified cars it’s hard to have a limited aftermarket options but I know slowly Alfa will get more recognition in the states. Once again appreciate you taking the time 🤟🏽

    I have a quilia QV and never had these issues, I will say that there is a price difference obviously. What year? New to the channel, mine is a 2018. Love the car, maybe I’m lucky, I don’t know. Appreciate your feedback though for things to look out for.

      Welcome to the channel Matthew 🙌🏽 I have a 2017 and these are pretty common in lower models. Truthfully I haven’t seen QV owners report the same issues but haven’t been looking. Glad you haven’t ran into any of them 🙌🏽 but I know a lot of 4cyl owners have. Is the moral of the story to buy a QV? 😅
      Thanks for watching and appreciate your feedback 🙌🏽🔥
