  • I absolutely love my 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia. It is a fantastic car, but there are a few things about it that I'm not too crazy about. In this episode of CarVisionLA, Inesh R. discusses five drawbacks of the Alfa Giulia. Price as Tested: $45,800.

In this video, CarVisionLA shows you 5 things I hate about my 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia. This is a fantastic car but I don't like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Exhaust. This is not an Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio but the 2.0L turbo is a great motor that really holds its own. This is not an Alfa Romeo Giulia Review but it is an overview of the Alfa Romeo Giulia 2020. The Alfa Romeo Giulia 2020 is a sedan and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2020 is an SUV but they have the same internals. This is also not the Giulia GTAm but the regular Giulia. The Giulia is a great car but this video talks about the Alfa Romeo Giulia Drawbacks. This is a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia but it is very similar to the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Please be sure to stay tuned for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Review coming soon.

Great notes. As far as the exhaust goes, consider this: I don’t want a loud exhaust on my daily driver, save that for the bikes and old cars. I dont want to attract cops and annoy my neighbors. I just want to drive quietly and quickly (ehh, sometimes very quickly) without attracting attention. Aftermarket exhaust is probably the biggest waste of money if looking for increased performance. (Unless a project car, and then better to just buy a Quad) High quality summer tires are the absolute most bang for your buck, and then maybe a mild tune. Anything more, and just buy a (again) a Quad. At the end of the day, you’ll be dollars (and smiles) ahead.

Tbh I just drove a 200hp 2020 giulia with stock exhaust. It's so relaxing unless I rev up to redline where it would sound just perfect. I'm from Denmark though and the model might be slightly different. I just wanted to say that this car is both gentle and a Ferrari when it wants to.

Except a fully kitted out QV from factory is 2x the price with significantly higher maintenance, I'm running 4.84s 0-60 with just a catless exhaust & intake added ($3.2k total). going to be adding a Squadra hybrid turbo w tune for $4k which should bring the car to around to 380-390hp under the correct conditions, total price of my car would be $40k after everything which is way more obtainable for the average person than a QV + i get AWD for winter & am saving up for a used QV for the warmer months. but $40k for a 2.0 Giulia that theoretically should be running low 4s 0-60 isn't bad at all

Just purchased a 2019..love the car... the items listed here are spot on. As it does have some quarks... I wish it had a way to simply keep the butterfly valves open as on cold start. That would be enough for me. One design option I absolutely love - is how you can pull the wiper blade arms - simultaneously, allowing you to properly clean the windshield. As there is nothing more annoying that having to battle with wiper arms when cleaning. Another complaint I do have, is how the camber provides a very steering fell when turning. I do realize it is designed to provide the quick response in steering (which I love) - but when turning the wheels - it chops, and it just feels odd. Almost similar to when you would turn an old school 4x4 full size truck with manual front lock outs and the CV joints would bind. Moreover, I wish the alarm had a nice chirp vs., the horn blaring... And my final complaint is how low the front diffuser is. It looks fantastic, but the curve(s) on the edge will rub... I have installed skid plates to protect it. But without lowering the car, I am very surprised that the front lower lip scraps as much as it does. As I am an extremely careful driver that knows how to cradle crawl a sharp incline / decline as well as speed bumps. Nothing is perfect...perse.... and this car has such great styling and handling - that the goofiness - is easily overlooked.

I leased a 2017 Giulia (which I just traded in a few months ago right before the lease was up). I agree with: Panic button - way too sensitive; Turn signals - definitely take some getting use to; Backup camera - poor quality, low resolution, almost useless. I didn't have a problem with my tires, mine came with Pirelli P7 Cinturato's and had awesome grip and handling. My particular car was somewhat of a lemon though. Over the 3 yr period, it was in and out of the shop for mechanical / computer problems many, many times. It spent a total of about 3 1/2 months time in the shop. Way too much for a new car which by the end of the lease only had 15K miles on it. The mechanic at the dealership even told me my car was an outlier and other owners didn't have as many issues as I had. But he told me that later models such as the 2018's and 2019's were much improved and didn't have any of the problems I had. Otherwise when the car worked, I absolutely loved driving it. I would even consider going back to a Giulia in the future. I loved the look and feel of it, how it handled the road, the ability to carve corners, the power delivery and shifts were smooth. Mine was red with red interior.

    • @CarVisionLA
      @CarVisionLA  Před 3 lety +4

Wow, red on red is such a nice color! The 2017s I think had the most reliability issues because they were the first model year and the manufacturers are still working out flaws. They able to spot and fix them in subsequent iterations.

You mention the indicator lights bother you. It may well be that the USA versions are different than mine, in Europe/TheNetherlands. As in the Dutch owner manual, slightly pushing the indicator handle up of down will activate the so called "lane change". The indicator lights will flash 3 times left or right and then stop flashing! No need to just slightly push them in the oposite direction to stop earlier, just be patient. If this is different in the US versions it is surely possible to have your dealer change this to the European way unless there is a motoring law in the US preventing this. Else, as often RTFM. 😎

I don't care if there is this or that small practicality or some sort of rationality that does not work with Alfa. Once I started buying cars that feel good to me, the path of true satisfaction opened. We have had Peogeot, Honda, Ford, four Volkswagens and two Alfas. Reliability wise the Alfas are leading with two VWs and Honda on tie. Emotional satisfaction comes from Alfas by far, but I admit enjoying VW Scirocco quite a bit :-)

On my 2019, it took me approximately 30 seconds to adjust to the turn signals, and the cruise control is equally sensitive between increase/decrease 1mph vs 5mph. I agree the rear camera could be better, but it's not a "hate" thing since this is the first car I've daily driven that even has a backup camera. I did find the decision to squish Android Auto down to half the screen to be an odd choice too, but again, I'm looking down the road more than at the screen, so I can't say I "hate" it.

I own a 2019 Giulia too. You can change those Japanese tires for Pirelli P-Zero summer tires. My car came with the staggered 19" wheels and P Zeros and it handles fantastic! And they are run flats, but they are really great tires. You can fit 255/40/18 on the back of your 18" wheels. I have done it on my 2017 Giulia, which I traded in on the 2019. I agree the backup camera sucks. As does the exhaust note. I also have set off my panic button. These are great cars, far better than anything I've owned from Audi, BMW and Mercedes before. (and I've owned a ton of cars). Keep enjoying your car but rush out to buy a set of P Zero Pirelli's. Italian car/Italian tires. The Michelin P4 are good, but they don't grip like the new P Zeros. They don't stop as good either.

They are factory fit and look terrific. If you get the Pirelli tires, you can use a tire ink pen (red) and color in the PIRELLI logo on the tires. That looks incredible as well. So you would rather have a spare in the garage than the run flats?? How well will that work when you need to change the tire. I love the run flats!! Owned a Giulia and loved it a ton!! I now have the Stelvio AWD and also love it. The backup camera does suck compared to others but I tend to not rely on it so does not matter. The Run Flats might not be the best from a performance standpoint, but from a convenience standpoint, thats kind of the point.

I think what he was referring to is the poor ride quality of run flats in general. As I wish all cars came with a midsize spare. I dislike run flats for a variety of reasons. As a regular sport tire feels so much better. Run flats are so hard they help facilitate bent wheels along with the harmonic feedback. Eg it feels like a tire is out of balance. When it actually vibration from road contact. Lastly, never in a MILLION years (even with run flats) would I drive the car (with a flat).. So in time I will replace with continentals conti sport (best tires ever) "in my opinion" and I will carry a full-size spare in my trunk.

I own the 2018 Giulia and I 100% agree that the turn signal stock is an annoying POS!
I also agree that the exhaust sound could be improved but that is minor.
What is really uncharacteristic for a sports sedan is the light steering and lack of feel.
Also the steering wheel is too thin for a modern sports sedan.
I used to own a 2001 BMW 3 series and it had a much meatier steering feel. It felt like I was riding on rails - very planted where I pointed. It felt substantial.
Heck, my 2014 Mercedes CLA had better steering feel even though it was FWD!
I don't have a problem with the rear view camera - hey, at least it has trajectory lines!
280 HP is just right for the price.
Other than those, the Giulia is hands down the sexiest sedan out there!
