    I don't expect the BOM to be perfect. I understand that its a forecast not a blueprint. I think the Australian public should be able to have a expectation of reasonably accurate information to base the decisions they make re. the weather given we are paying one million dollars a day for the BOM. If climate change is making forecasting not feasible any longer get rid of the BOM and save the money.

      I understand your frustration , however I'm sure the international agricultural futures traders are looking a lot deeper for their future weather info. Have you checked out the weatherwatch NZ u-tube channel ? I have been following their channel for a couple of months, they cover Australia ,NZ & south west pacific. Clear , plain English communication and explanation of interpretation of modelling ect.

    I have a foolproof weather-forecasting system. I just stick my baldy head out the window. If it gets sunburnt it must be fine. If it gets wet it must be raining. 🤔😉😊
    Getting some good falls up here over the last few days. But no more than some wet seasons that I remember - walking a mile or so in the pouring rain to catch the school bus as a 6-year old. 🙄

      How old fashioned. You should look on your phone. Don't tell me you believe what you see with your own eyes. You have to tune in to the media and get with the swing of things. Next thing you will be thinking for yourself if you keep that up. John

    Apart from "everything is subject to change" and they can only make educated guesses to give us a vague idea what to expect, it just proves the point that we are only human, ULTIMATELY, GOD IS IN CHARGE 🙏✝️🙏.
    We lull ourselves into a false sense of security when we forget that.
    Thanks for the vid, made me smile, but not funny for many farmers who lost $10,000's on stock they sold, many of my neighbours did. Thanks John and Pat, hope you have a fabulous day, from down Sthn NSW 🦘🦘🙏🦘🦘

      Thanks very much. It gets up my nose that people think they control everything. When in reality its most of the people who are getting controlled. As far as the BOM if their predictions are so wild that they ruin peoples lively hood and in some cases worse. Maybe if the BOM is so inaccurate we should get rid of it and save a million dollars a day. John

    You would think the forecast was written by a lawyer rather than a meteorologist, they have an escape clause for every segment of the forecast. " Don't shoot the messenger " is something I believe though. Farmers worldwide are gamblers and like any punter need to have some confidence in their "tipster" before placing their bets.

      Yeah I think in the currant way that weather has become politicised people have become very critical and upset on both sides of the fence. The only thing I am a bit cranky about is the BOM predictions crashed the cattle market with their dire predictions. John

  • @theadventuresofzoomandbettie

    I think long range forecasts are generally not super reliable, and known to be so. We were also certainly expecting a drier season because of the el nino - but have had more rain than anticipated over the past few weeks, although it was definitely drier back a month or so ago than normal. I'm hoping for the sake of our growing season that summer pushes further into March. BOM may not be super reliable, but the minute that guy basically said climate change was hogwash he lost me. The climate is definitely spitting our more major catastrophes, in smaller time periods, than seen in the last hundred years or more. The rate we get bushfires, floods and cylcones has definitely increased in a proveable way. Anyone denying that is usually backed by, or is supported by mining councils, or other big pollution companies and has a vested interest in changing public opinion for dollars.

    The BOM make forecasts based on models from past weather and their array of scientific equipment scattered all over the place. Unfortunately, it's not a crystal ball with 100% accuracy. The difference is - the BOM gets held accountable when they get it wrong, unlike the amateur services online. But, more rain is always better than less/none for farmers and the bush.

    • @farminglifeaustralia6716
      @farminglifeaustralia6716  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes you are right. Unfortunately forecasting has become so unreliable that maybe we should stop spending a million a day on it. John

  • @rocksteadfarm
    @rocksteadfarm Před 6 měsíci +1

    Weather forcasting is based on several very large global models based on extremely detailed datasets. Unfortunately, global warming has made those models less reliable. The bureau bases its forecasts on the probability of certain weather outcomes. Those probablilities are becoming more vague as the air and sea temperatures increase. I would expect that in the future, weather patterns will become more unpredictable, and severe weather events more frequent. Sit down, buckle up, and enjoy the climate change ride; apparently this is what we all wanted when we ignored the warnings for the past 40 years.

    • @farminglifeaustralia6716
      @farminglifeaustralia6716  Před 6 měsíci

      I think there is climate change and I think there always was. The earth has had ice ages and warm periods since the start. If the current conditions are making weather forecasting not doable then stop spending a million dollars a day on something that won't work. John
