Howard prints an energy related newspaper cartoon for National Cut Your Energy Costs Day (Jan. 10)

January 10th is National Cut Your Energy Costs Day! This day encourages businesses and homeowners to reduce energy costs and improve efficiency.
We might be taking some creative liberty with this video. For today, Howard letterpress printed a newspaper cartoon that depicts Estes Kefauver investigating price fixing for major electric companies in the United States. Kefauver was a U.S. Senator who headed many Legislative committees investigating organized crime, price fixing, and unethical business practices.
This cut is from the Brett from Pennsylvania Collection, a collection of cuts we recently received from one of our followers. This cut of a newspaper cartoon, which was made by Herbert Block of the Washington Post, is likely from the early 1960s. So, you could say, Kefauver was trying cut energy costs. This was printed using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.

I would love to know how they did the plaques for the printers back then. Like how did they write a whole book, or how did they write a whole newspaper without all the individual tiny lettering?!?! So fascinating. Historical artifacts are fascinating in general. Thank you for giving so much information.
