- Ever wonder how copies of cuts are made? In this video, Howard discusses how clichés, also known as electrotypes, are made. The process Howard describes applies for not just halftones but also woodcuts.
We have two excellent examples in our print shop exhibit to discuss this topic! The halftone image is of the first 25 U.S. presidents.

I could watch Howard talk about different cuts, stories and history for hours
Thank you so much Sacramento History Museum for your content and Howard for his awesome experience and sharing his love of printing
Excellent! Thank you for the lesson, Mr. Howard.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing this. There is something incredibly satisfying in old time print techniques.
🤯🤯 my mind is blown on this one! Honestly, you can’t even tell which one is which! 😎😎😎/ NY
The copper cliche looks more saturated in that the black portions are so pronounced it looks kinda smudged whereas the original halftone looks more crisp.
I recently acquired a few hundred of these old blocks and could not figure out if they are printable. I don’t have the equipment and my test was an abysmal failure but I may try again when I get a diy tabletop press.
Keep persevering, we believe in you!!
Wonderful
Very cool.
If they were both in the frame at the same time in closeup, yes.
That was a good'un!
Not in 480p portrait video.
Nope!
