Whew, this is a long one. A friend of mine was able to get his hands on a Blaster that needed some love. It had 'eaten' a stator and we knew that at the very least... the crank had a wobble. I offered to give it a go to help #savesportquads.
It's not perfect and I'm not master mechanic but it's back up and running, breaking in and getting ready for the trails.
This is a start to finish motor diagnosis, tear down and rebuild. I thought about breaking this up into segments but felt it is nice to see the whole picture sometimes.
If you have a specific question it's easy enough to search for an answer online but sometimes it can be difficult to put all the 'pieces' of knowledge together. My hope is that if you are looking to take on a Yamaha Blaster motor salvage and repair that this video will help you understand the full process. If you have low compression, leaking seals, blown top end, seized transmission or bottom end, stuck rings, blown piston, rounded nuts, stuck dowels, baked on gaskets, a rubber boat drain plug for an oil plug??? then this video will help you understand the process and the tools required to get back on the trail.
    Here's how I see it...
Fun factor: (Taking things apart is always more fun) +1 armor
Effort: (Expect a case of beer and some Advil) -7 hit points
Result: It's going to be awesome... one day... sometime... maybe soon +7 healing
Leaking Seals, rounded cylinder nuts, bent crank, rubber drain plug... -4 health points
Cringe factor: - Not as bad as you'd think. +1 sanity
Saving Sport Quads: worth it every time!
    Many thanks to:
Dirt Fanatics: Tyler is a great guy. If you need good quality used parts for the Blaster I highly recommend reaching out to him. dirtfanatics.com/
HPM Powersports: Shawn supplies and makes great parts for the Blaster. Check out his site. My leak down tester is from Shawn. On other other Blasters I have his bolt kits and case savers. hpmpowersports.com/
I also need to give a shoutout to Aaron over at Cronetec. While his parts aren't featured in this video he makes and sells a great Hydraulic brake conversion kit that I run. If you're a Blaster fan you definitely need to check out his site as well. cronetec.com/
These guys and others are doing A LOT to support the Blaster community. Let's support them.
Now settle in and enjoy the journey.

Really enjoyed the more raw format video. Love the fact that you leave most of the little hiccups, trials, and tribulations an ordinary person can encounter while wrenching. For me,i would have probably used a little dab of blue loctite on the internal screws and bolts just to keep them secure in a rattly 2 cycle. Not gonna lie, that spark plug cleaner blew my mind!, im gonna have to get me one of those!

Thanks Fire, I’ve thought about the lock tite and see a lot of guys do it. I may have to start. I’d hate to have something important rattle loose. (I have had stator bolts come out)

Great video. I like the oil pan you are using. Imma have to look for one like that. It's perfect for these little 2 strokes.

I hadn’t used it before but it fit so well. It was an Amazon special.
