The recent minibook x sold in China had switched wifi module to AX201 with 2x2 wifi6 support. The screen is really good, not bad speakers, but still with random quality control.
Thank God, any one do this review! Im waiting so long!
Thanks
So has anyone upgraded the ssd? What make and model did you guys use? Should just need to create a USB boot drive on a usb thumb drive and go from there???
My keyboard doesn’t shut off in yoga mode, it shows that the driver for the accelerometer isn’t started. Can you share what driver you have for the accelerometer?
I wish he could bring back the Linux section for notebook reviews. This would be awesome as a small Arch-based terminal machine.
Oh sorry it was getting a bit long so cut that
@@Techtablets Thanks for another awesome review, Chris! Appreciate it if you could involve more linux content going forward. Cheers!
I agree, Linux section was highly appreciated. I'm always looking for a small, portable and functional Linux machine, but actually it's almost impossible to get feedback about Linux on this Chinese cheap machines. Still great and professional contents on this channel. Cheers from Italy 👍
@@Techtablets That's more important than many other parts easily available in any random "review". Do not cut that please!
Great video. Is the stylus performance/quality better than the Surface Pro 3?
Do you need to lift you hand from the screen when you're using the stylus?
Would you recommend this or the One-Netbook OneMix 4?
Hi Chris, I tried to follow the Memory over clock for my Corebook-X 16gb 2400mhz ram, I can change Max memory to 2933 and SA GV to Disabled but i dont see anywhere the DDR Speed COntrol setting......So i reboot back into win11 and its still 2400... I tried 2933 and 2667 but neither worked.... Any Ideas what else to change in the BIOS? Ive tried doing some searches but nothing for the Corebook-X :-( Thanks.. Keep up the great work
why would you get this instead of a second hand Macbook air 11.6 e.g. from 2015 or a Macbook (12 inch )?
can the sata ssd be replaced with a nvme ssd?
Can you connect this directly to TV with USB-C to HDMI Cable?
I am in the USA, we seem to get the 8gb ram not the 12 gb. Which chuwi windows laptop, tablet have easy upgradeable ram and what is the largest amount of ram that it can be upgraded too? Thank you for all the work you do!
i think it's usable if the hole punch webcam is on the bottom right corner instead of top left corner
Thanks for the review, I followed the the link in the your video description, but unfortunately redirected me to main chuwi website where the product is changed to other new model of minibook that have 10.5 inch which I didn't like.would you guide me from where I can buy and get 10.8 inch version.
thanks
How do u install play store in this and Microsoft office apps?
Can i use powerbank for charge this device?
Can this be charged using a powerbank that supports power delivery?
where can I get this I really want one but it is sold out
Is it performancewise comparable to the Surface Go 2 m3?
Really good review, thank you!
Side note: How tf did I just learn about the ctrl + left click to open a new tab. I've been doing 25 years of right click + new tab. omg.
Glad it helped!
it has a sata 2280 SSD, can it handle a M2 PCI express SSD (NVME) or must it be a sata one?
Still happy with my onemix 4, nothing can dethrone it thus far. Lack of webcam maybe but still better than the lack of ports and other compromises this chuwi has.
That's a great laptop the OneMix 4, I have the Ltd edition version in red.
You going to try the 2023 n100 version?
Basically for someone who is looking for small, portable and durable mini laptop it looks really great. But the battery. Chuwi, why? 2h on full charge? Please.
What happens if you install chrome os on it?
maybe a strange question but can this also handle android apps?
Does it have palm rejection?
putting the task bar the top, with Win 10 style, the cutout will always be the Windows button, so less bothering I guess
I have just got the Chuwi core book pro and i think its a great laptop i know that there are way better laptops out there but for what i use it for its great and its got a really good display
Hi bro, can u share battery life
Would it be possible to switch to an i5 or i7?
Where to buy this versiom 10.8???????
Board design could be much better by moving that SSD to the empty space to the right, they can then have a bigger battery due to reclaimed vertical space. Really that empty space shows high inefficiency.
What happens to that Chuwi logo when you flip the screen all the way back? Does it actually press against the base of the device?
Hi the screen does against the rubber feet and the keyboard is automatically disabled. So it can be used as a tablet only.
The hole punch should have been in the top center. Both Windows and Linux require real estate for menus and folders in the corners. Also center hole punch would be so good for video calls. The battery capacity is just unacceptable in this. Still, Chuwi seem to have come a long way from the garbage stuff I purchased back in 2016. Only if their local support is strong, I would purchase again from them.
Thanks for the review - I bought one with Wifi 6 latest one - it is a nice machine overall, so far I can't really complain. I like generally the value for money that Chuwi offers in their products - hopefully it lasts a bit 😅
Thanks for sharing
How does it work with multiple programs running? MS Office 365 etc
I wonder how linux will run it
A hole punched right at the positon of "My computer" icon. What a proud and smart design.
Yes it's not great, they used an old tablet screen.
Hello, good video, a question, this chuwi has palm rejection, I want to use it with a pencil from the same brand chuwi hipen H8
If you want it to draw other revisions they say that it is not designed for that. It seems that the pencil works smoothly, but it's not great for illustrations or drawing.
no micro sd card slot?
where's the tuxedo link in the description
Thanks Chris. Was waiting on your review to decide if I should buy it or not. The form factor with only 10.8-inch, windows and being convertible seemed perfect on paper but after seeing your review I decided to skip on this one. Very small batery and no type A. Also not very cheap either... Is the quality of the front facing camera any good?
Oh I forgot my front camera sample in the edit, doh. Well it's quite good better than normal 1080p30 FPS
@@Techtablets Thank you ;)
Can you make video about meizu 18s pro?
Thanks for the review Chris and i will paraphrase a great music band: "another chuwi bites the dust..."
Haha
is the ssd slot support NVME speed? or just limited to SATA3 ?
sata 3
hii mate.. may i ask.. does it possible to set the battery charging percentage? i.e. charge below 50 and stop charge at 60-70 as to preserve battery life? maybe it have a utilities or can set at bios? if yes, this is good for daily usage.. plug in power all day with external monitor and other accessories
Hi, unfortunately not I know my MSI GE76 I can do this. But Chuwi fails to give us this option
@@Techtablets not even in BIOS? but anyway, thanks for the reply..
I'm hoping Chuwi makes a tiger lake i5 1135G7 version of this with an additional fan inside. Would make a perfect go anywhere general use laptop.
Would be but they need to add a Type-A port and larger battery for that 1135G7
@@Techtablets yeah true. I'm surprised that they ditched so much I/O because I have the original Chuwi 8.9" MiniBook which has USB A 2.0, USB A 3.0, Type C, mini HDMI and a MicroSD card slot which forms part of my permanent storage. Everything you would want.
I'd much prefer something like a Ryzen 5700u. 8 cores/16 threads, better battery life and a much better IGPU. Would be fantastic for a portable gaming device.
@@Techtablets And hopefully no hole punch camera. I rather have larger bezel if the camera won't be in the display itself. Windows are not designed to have any notch or hole punch on the display.
@@DSS553 that's too much power consumption for that form factor, even the 13" HP Probook 435 has a hard time with the 8-core Ryzens' cooling, even if it's much lower than the Intel competition. You can see in the Steam Deck what the limit of power dissipation is in these super small devices.
in my experience with Chuwi...IF with luck you will recieve a good one...if not after-sale service is horrible. I understand it is hard to pass on affordable devices with excellent specs BUT the regrets will be greater =)
Hi Chris, so it is impossible to charge the device with power banks, isn't it?
No you can make sure it supports PD 2.0 at least 45W and it will work. My power banks worked.
it has been properly battered with the ugly stick! solid review, as usual. 👍
the punch must be amazing with gnome, the taskbar is on top, I will receive it at the end of February, I can't wait to see the compatibility with linux, moreover the battery will take a third, windows consumes a lot of energy, I think it's perfect for a debian in general!
Hope you enjoy it! It's the best laptop of this style so far that I've reviewed.
Hi Chris thank you for review, what about video call quality with that cam and MIC?
Very good the camera sample due to an editing error was missed . But it’s FHD and looks better than normal. Mic is good
@@Techtablets thank you!
Chris, if I were you I would always put things on eBay after you review with an auction. You have 400k+ subscribers so I'm pretty sure you won't lose any money for any item you review and besides you can always include your Techtablets branded memorabilia to make your viewers buy from you and not where you bought it from. Think about it. Life is full of hack ideas where you can make more money where you think you can't
i'd love a machine with upgraded thermals :)
Also of eBay global shipping program is available they'd handle the logistics. I never ship international unless eBay gsp is used. They do all the customs paper work too.
@@_GarethRossUK GSP is terrible, they slash everything up, even if it's a bit of cardboard because they think there's drugs in it
@@naxzed_it nice i'd love my screen scratched
You know that most of stuff reviewers get are sent by the company and they need to send it back? Yeah didnt think so :D
i might be late, but how's the performance if you use unity and visual studio?
Terrible for that.
Is it worth to buy?
I'm looking for a very similar thing but with a 13 or 14 inch screen please...?
Chuwi Freebook is the same but at 13.5" or the Larkbook X 14" reviews in my channel of both.
Is weight mentioned somewhere in review? I wonder if the official 899g is correct...
Sorry I just saw that camera was in the screen. First I thought it was a joke. I have no doubt they will remove it for next revision. This is not for me.
Literally just received my Minibook X today, came with win11 pre-installed, and actually has a Wifi 6 adapter now! "Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201" is what I see in my device manager. Bluetooth also seems to be upgraded to 5.2 (I see LMP 11 in my Bluetooth adapter firmware details). Seems like Chuwi is silently giving little upgrades.
Hey, can you tell me how well this thing run apps? Like the office or maybe light editing Photopea or Canva. Thanks.
What about the battery? How long it can run the laptop?
Almost considered it considering the novelty form factor (non Surface-esque with the stupid hinge), nice build quality and backlit keyboard, but 4 hours battery life, yeah nope.
Would it be safe to say that the Asus Vivobook 13 Slate Oled will perform better than this laptop? I see many reviewers say the Asus performs very badly but I am just worried they are comparing to much faster PC. I am currently using Intel i3-7020u with 12gb ram and quite happy with the performance but need a portable Windows device to carry around with me.
I own a few Asus ROG Flow devices and I never had any issues with them. I really like the small form factors of the Flow series and the capabilities. It all depends on what you use it for and what model line (aside from having lemon units here and there).
Hello Chris, I need a windows tablet that is not very expensive, maximum €300-400. Which one would you recommend?
It would be for excel, office, youtube, netflix, and little else.
There aren’t really any new ones now mostly pc or yoga type.
@@Techtablets ok, thanks, I thought of one like for example chuwi Ubook X or Hi10 X or something like that, but I'm undecided between that type or some cheap pc
Finally! That's the first review of this convertible. The speaker don't sound loud at all in the video to be honest. Did you mean just good sound quality (but not loud)? Also can you confirm the weight is over 950gr, as I have seen online, instead of the 899 announced by Chuwi? I was surprised to see such a weight in such a small laptop. This is heavier than the 13in Thinkpad Nano
It's not bad sounding and sounds louder than my mic captured it. But it's not amazing loud or anything. Good enough.
@@Techtablets thanks, do you know what protocol the pen is? Is it Wacom AES or EMR? I already have several AES from HP and Toshiba. If you don't know don't worry...
it would be cool if the camera was under the screen like in some phones
Great review!👍👍
Thanks!
So it can literally only be charged by its own specific usb c charger? That seems a bit daft seeing as people now have their own preferred chargers that are getting smaller and more powerful
Nope, the other port is full spec that supports power delivery
28.8wh battery is going to be a huge letdown for a laptop this large. I have a 43wh in a 7" device.
Can you review DERE T30 Pro
I want to buy it in India, pls share link
Could you review the Chuwi Minibook X N100?
If they send me one sure.
LOL, not thinking the cutout on the display would be a positive feature.
the round corners plus camera hole a big no for any laptop (for me)
Chuwi laptop with bright screen? This is also has to be first for them not only cut out. But its 550eur which seems like alot of dosh for what it is.
They have many laptops now with bright and pretty decent screens. In fact it's maybe their best trait is using decent screens. But the cut out in the screen...
Can i use Adobe softwares with this laptop?
Yes you can but it’s not very powerful
@@Techtablets It's amazing how you still reply. Great job man that shows you love what you do. Thanks for your service sir. +1 Sub
Does the M.2 socket support NVMe SSD?
Nope only Sata3 as mentioned in the video
@@Techtablets So sad
I already bought this laptop because I have watch you video. I used gaming laptop for traveling.. cracking my spine. lol. This one is ok.
How is it for you now after a year's worth of usage?
This with ryzen z1 would definitely rock
My gemibook 13 suffered a warped keyboard due to overheating. I returned it to Chuwi in Shenzhen (Nov 12) and still haven't had it back. Over 90 days ! That's €300 down the drain
What!?!?? That's shocking and they have told you why its taking so long?
@@Techtablets No they haven't. They said they would let me know when it's about to be returned to me. That was 6 weeks ago
I have wanted to ask for a while-why is Wifi 6 so important on these devices? In many reviews (not just yours!) of low-end devices, "no Wifi 6" still seems to be always brought up as something genuinely disappointing. I can’t imagine needing to work with large files on such a low-end device very often, even over the local network, let alone over the internet...
Wifi 6 handles many clients better. At my place I cannot used 2.4GHz anymore because it is just so saturated and getting a stable connection is near impossible. And now that ac/5GHz is more common it's getting harder too to achieve acceptable speeds.
It's so much better (Not jsut the speed) less noise, better range etc but it also only costs about $5 more for them to use it Vs Wifi AC. You also get BT 5.2 and not BT 4 which is much faster.
the holepunch with a bezel that thick.... whyyyy chuwi whyy!
Your channel amazing 💻
5:20 "As they claimed, it is the world's first laptop with hole punch screen because no one else would probably want to do this.." ME: ouch!!
The truth hurts :D
What a weird thing to brag about
I have their last tablet, it's awesome.
Which one?
There is a stylus pen in box?
Sold separately
Where can buy? Thanks
But don't has a slot Sim?
No SIM slot.
Man. I want to own this, but i think i am going to the lapdock route - plug my phone in or maybe one of the tiny mini pc cubes.
Also for once, these mini PCs will have a decent camera placement for video conferencing
@@memeranglaut
yes
Can it hold coding like Java or python?
Yes it can as long as it is not too demanding.
@@Techtablets Thank you so much.
It would be awesome if you could try and run a live version of Linux, just to see if out of the box, there are drivers at least for screen, keyboard, trackpad and wifi!
From testing a live PopOS usb on a Hi10 Go (basically a slightly cut down version of this thing), everything works except the speakers and autorotate. Rotation can be fixed fairly easily if you adapt a config on GitHub made for an older Chuwi device. Audio seems to be a dead end cuz intel as it seems is not willing to provide drivers for Intel SST
@@PaperReaper Thank you for your reply!
I actually am running manjaro, no issues at all, except rotation which doesn't bother me much .
Kernel 5.19 solves the issue i had with turning it off, and caps lock blinking indefinitely having to force the shutdown every time.
Awesome little machine.
@@rubiskelter wait, so 5.19 fixes stuff eh? Hmmm. Is there audio on Manjaro for u?
@@rubiskelter Sorry, could you please confirm if you have audio working? If yes, I think I will buy it!
@@PaperReaper Yes, i have perfect audio. The minibook x is still going strong :) .
Thanks for the review, was considering to buy one but yeah not worth the price
when will they learn that BATTERY is the number one concern. performance wise i bet anyone looking into this kind of thing is ready to compensate. but without a good battery whats the point of lugging around a small device when you need to bring the charger as well. get it minimum 8 hours CHUWI for your future devices!
I love the size but definitely not feeling the punch hole camera. What were they thinking!?
No idea but it's not a good move even if the camera is better and it's an amazing display no thanks! Not on Windows it gets in the way.
That price for a laptop with a Celeron N5100 is just too much :/ You can get a convertible with a Ryzen 5500U at that price point.
you'll get a crap tier "150nits" screen for that AMD processor and at that price. and a basically full plastic build... those low tier lenovos and what not are overpriced as hell for their build quality and specs (talking convertible laptops here)... but yeah, the price is still what's keeping me from pulling the trigger on one of these chuwi laptops... they haven't brought "a really hard to say no" deal yet... the prices seem to keep going up with each release 😕
guess I waited this far... I can wait to see what's next. kinda hoping they give us something with the higher tier celerons instead of the N5100 all the time, or a core i3 convertible would be great too.
@@pxKappa I personally would prefer a full plastic build with a decent IPS touch screen (you probably looked at a different model) to anything with a crap tier N5100. I don't care what material you pack that CPU in. You can encase it in titanium as long as it isn't below 250€ it's not worth it.
@@rcpoisond i aggree lol... i was just saying those models such as the ideapad flex 14 or whatever it's called, which is the closest to this price range, the screens are crap... about 40% ntsc... if the screens were good they would be better, but for an office work and multimedia computer you need a better screen over a better processor imo, and those don't have good screens. that said, i still think, as i said before, that this chuwi is also overpriced.
dude.. 4 hours ? I was expecting atleast 10 hours.. hoping for more. Anyone know of a small thing like this with insane battery life? looking for 30hrs+
Yes very disappointed in the battery life.
found anything?
I think the hole is ok, not too bad actually.
Tons of possible good technology in hand... but they already think to know everything and no need technical advisors, so here the results: corner camera directly on folder icon or many many other wrong things on almost any Chinese made product lol ;)))
would love if could be hackintoshed
Before you buy, Try to return it. I bought a chuwi mini computer, it bricked within 4 months of use. Chuwi did not offer any help. Chuwi wrote "Hello, then you can directly see Amazon's customer service to see if it can be replaced, you can also do it without contacting me" Chuwi washed their hands and did not want to be bothered. Know this before you buy....
That is not good! I've loved the comment so it's at the top. Thanks for searching and shame on Chuwi!
Esta genial excepto por el precio
Chuwi is my favourite brand of these cheap chinese device manufacturers. I'm still using my Chuwi Hi13 that I bought from Chris' recommendation almost 5 years ago, it still holds up, even the battery. Meanwhile my Surface Pro 4 that I bought around the same time has died because the battery is swollen, and it's unfixable because apparently Microsoft thinks it's ok to make overpriced devices that are disposable/unfixable. The Chuwi was much cheaper, also much slower, but it still works.
Glad to hear it's still going that Hi13 was an awesome tablet for back then.
@@Techtablets Truly a gem. Struggled with the performance for a while, but installing Windows 11 through the Insider Program helped quite a bit with that aspect.
That's interesting because I had 2 failed batteries from Chuwi (the one that came with the Lapbook 12.3, and the replacement I ordered from Chuwi). Now it sits next to my laser printer as a battery-less wireless print server.
I replaced it with a M1 Macbook Air - much more expensive (I got it cheaper with the education discount and free Airpods) but much higher quality, and it will hold its value well when it's time to upgrade, whereas an old Chuwi is practically worthless at the used market because no one knows what it is.
no Webcam 📷, video quality showcase
🤔
this is so awesome design perfect ram and all only thing is dont trust the company i wish asus or acer make somthng similar
