  • Finally set out on the City Of Long Beach boat out of Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach. Had an amazing time over packing, over researching and under sleeping.
    In this video I tried to roll up and document the entire trip so others can get a good idea of what to expect on going on one of these charter boats for your first time.
    Cost was about $55 for the trip, $12 for the filleting of the fish and tips
    Went out of www.pierpoint.net
    I think some of the best baits are made by

    Great job -- sculpin are the best tasting fish we have locally, in my opinion.

      Been a while since I was on a boat for sure. Been going on as many as I can go on now. Trying out all new boats and landings to see what they are about. Fun to explore and continue the learning.

    Great video and tips. Try doing a full day out of 22nd street landing they have awesome boats and crew and they always put you on some good fish. I’ve always done pretty good on the Pursuit.

    I like buying a small net that will fit in the bait well.
    It makes it easy to catch live bait without crushing them.

      Shoot, sorry I just saw this. Right now is mostly all rockfish fishing at 300' and 150'. I would bring a 20 and 30 setup so maybe like 15-30paired with a Penn Fathom 15 or Lexa 400. For a 30 setup, something like the Penn Fathom 20narrow and a 25-50 rated rod maybe? I would bring 25 lb and 40 lbs mono pre-tied with dropper loops using 1/0, 2/0 hooks. 6,8,10,12 oz torpedo weights and depending on the length of time maybe 16oz or even 24oz if they are fishing at 600'. Sunblock, cash for tips, I chew ginger chews to help with seasickness and pliers? Good luck! Let me know how you did

  • @genedavella9817
    @genedavella9817 Před 5 lety

    I would try the grub without the lead head, just a hook (2) on the dropper loop

    Hi there! Saw a few of your videos. My first ever fishing float is arriving this week, I also do a lot of jetty/surf/pier fishing. I'll get out with my co to those charter boats about once a month. Maybe we could meet up and show each other the ropes some time!

    Very enjoyable. Brings back memories. I used to go back in the 80s, but I got tired of getting tangled up with the other anglers.
    Weekends, the only time a working man could usually go, were packed. The tangles were brutal but we did catch some big bonito, barries, and yellowtail.

      @@FisherNewb dude keep it simple don't overthink things. Remember everything eats live bait, and to do that all you need is a hook. 65% of the time your fishing live bait anyways unless the fish get up on the surface. I dont fish a crazy amount but I've gone out about 7 times on the Enterprise this year. I didn't get to fish the early season at Catalina but all July and August it was very scratchy fishing and lures barely got bit. Do not spend a ton of money on random lures. The only lures I saw calicos bite this year were 1oz hook up baits and a daiwa sp minnow. This whole summer all I needed was 20lb flouro and a 1/0 hooks. I brought a handful of jigs but they didn't really want them. Last tip FISHING IS ALL SKILL if your ever are on the Enterprise talk to the cook his name's Cody and there's a kid named Johnny who fishes on the enterprise. Both Cody and Johnny are really skilled anglers. I say fishing is all skill because the times I went out we caught only 10 yellowtail, and those 10 fish were always caught by only three people. The cook Cody would catch 3 of those fish and Johnny would catch another of those three....last tip Wich is the most important. This is what I've seen and noticed calico bass like a nose hooked bait and yellowtail like. Butt hooked bait. When you butt hook a bait it swims alot faster and it will swim away from you. If you learn to butt hook a sardine well you can be the hot stick on the boat.

      @@FisherNewb For sculpin all you need is a 5 inch white fluke on a 1/2 ounce Lead head with an 8 ounce sinker. If you buy an assortment of lures for sculpin your wasting your money. Sculpin are literally the dumbest fish in the ocean and there really isn't a trick to catching them, don't listen to Dan hernandez, if you ask sportboats what they think about him they'll tell you that he's kinda a shiester there's nothing special about his bucktails.
