Bearz G. Fish at marina Del Mar it’s a good place for big Hali and big spots!
Next time you fish in Long Beach. Fish at marine stadium. Thats one of my favorite spots for spotties and halibut.

I dint catch much when I was there either. Just small sandies and a few smelts
I live right on the beach one building over from the pier, and I Gotta agree with some of the others saying to fish the surf on the Long Beach beach. Head West of the pier covering beach and you’ll find monster halibut. The only good thing about the breakwater is that it keeps the water a lot calmer so if it’s clear, you can pull up door mat halibuts on luckycraft flash minnows from within 25 yards from shore.
If fishing for spotties, Long Beach night fishing is the way to go.

I always had luck fishing Cherry Beach from the surf. White plastic on drop shot seems to work very well...
Go on to the jetty if you come out again.. the beach side holds big halis there and sand bass!! Cool video man!!

I just cast and pray my friend. But if you want to dial down for Halibut. Bucktail with a bright colored grub or a dropshot with a jerkshad or grub. The thing is that, if they want it. THEY WILL EAT IT.

you should visit Danas Wharf and hop on a 1/2 day or 3/4 day boat. They are having a blast and catching a lot of fish.

Sorry to inform you but fishing That area in winter time during rain or after rain is nasty the L A river dumps right there exactly.
I personally only do surf fishing in L.B. with a drop shot rig and gulp alive, I catch lots of halibut that way, I have a small CZcams channel that shows that.

Oh to answer your question about shoreline on the OG’s fishing there, they pump some ghost shrimp and hit perch all day. That was decades ago though when it was still pretty good fishing there.

Hey BTW there is a spot behind Del Mar race track. San Dieguito River. Check it out. I used to work at the fairgrounds so I get to fish right behind it but if you find a way on the other side, dude the stable workers at the track be pulling huge spotties. 4lbs. and up bro there’s also some big halis there.

If you’re gonna fish downtown Long Beach then you’re gonna want to cross the bridge and fish next to the queen mary it’s a lot better fishing. Los Alamitos Bay has multiple spots including marine stadium(lots of eel grass) and 72nd place jetty and the whole beach have huge halibut(use lucky craft works well). Then we have Anaheim bay where you wanna go under the bridge and use a drop shot 1 oz torpedo to beat the current for fat bridge spotties. Huntington Beach is really good for float tubing and surf fishing. We have a few estuaries that produce doormat halis too. Nice vid tony and shout out to the beach city anglers! LB pride 🤙🏼
