There can be many reasons to wear a face shield. Google is your best friend when it comes to having questions like this.
Reasons to wear face shield:
UV Protection
Cold Air
Hide the ugliness
Protect the neck
Light skin or not, people still get sunburnt if the conditions are rough. When it's cold, it helps. You should try it sometime.

It doesn’t matter if you get sun burnt or not, the cumulative UV damage builds up over the years, and fishermen are especially at high risk.
It’s like wearing seatbelt, the imminent danger might not be there, but why not reduce your chance of skin cancer or disease?
