      @@Celticbrit113yes! Also, we've seen Gomez fight, we know there is 0 chance that Debbie overpowered him so I love that, ultimately, to get in the position they were, they all must have voluntarily got in the chairs and sat patiently as Debbie went around strapping them all in. They probably strapped each other in to help!

    If Debbie just hadn't been so greedy, the family totally would've embraced her. They empathized with her being misunderstood her whole life and turning to homicide as an emotional outlet.

    • @AtlasBlizzard
      @AtlasBlizzard Před 3 měsíci +6

      Exactly, that's the tragedy of her character. She finally found her people, but she was too much of a narcissist to embrace them. Narcissists are never happy with any emotional attachments they make, only their own selfish gains.

  • @Teelenth
    @Teelenth Před 9 měsíci +245

    The tragic irony of Debbie is that she fits right in with the family but is too wrapped up in her own baggage to ever realize it. She's so committed to her black widow scheme that she just doesn't ever seem to realize that the Addams's adore her and welcome her with open arms into the family. The only time they had any real problem with her was when she tried to separate Fester from the rest of the family. If she had just gone along with it she could have had free access to the Addams' wealth and a loving, supportive family that don't have any real problem with her violent, gold-digging ways. Even constantly trying to kill Fester isn't really a deal breaker because that's just a casual greeting as far as the Addams's are concerned.

    I remember some of the critics of the Netflix show lamented that it was too edgy, too dark, the Addams family is supposed to be quirky with a dark sense of humour, but they'd never resort to torture, violence, or murder, especially not Wednesday!!! etc.
    Apparently, these people watched different Addams movies. In no specific order, Wednesday would have let a girl drown for being annoying, was ready to burn her at the stake, tried to kill a baby multiple times, the family was ready to douse a group of carolers with hot oil at the opening of the first movie, a stripper is cooked alive inside a cake and they find it hilarious, Debbie is electrocuted to dust, people are buried alive in the first movie, Morticia has no issue with Debbie abusing and manipulating Fester as long as the interior design of a home that isn't hers matches her taste, Pugsley steals a stop sign and is praised for causing a crash...just to name a few incidents.
    The Addams family doesn't go out of their way to commit violence and murder but it's a welcome side effect, it's welcomed when the opportunity presents itself, and the accidental death of innocent people is funny to them.
    I do love the movies, I love the Addams family, love the humour but looking at the franchise objectively, the Addams, and specifically Wednesday are much tamer, less violent, and more condemning of violence and murder with a stronger moral code in the Netflix show. If 90s Wednesday had sicced a bunch of piranhas at her brother's bullies, her father would have offered her a cigar after they smooth-talked her out of consequences with the principal and Morticia would have reminded her to not release delicate, precious, cute fish into chlorinated water, it's unhealthy for the poor things 😁

It might be harder for a story trying to do serious plot threads revolving around it, as opposed to "as it comes" moments as in this movie, since the Addams function much better as dark comedy than anything serious IMO.

    1:06 - "the original Wednesday". Actually no, not even close. Th Addams Family (including Wednesday) has been around in various media forms since 1938. They have been newspaper cartoons (which is where they started), Movies (as seen here - and else where) as well as TV show characters. These two movies aren't even the only incarnation of the Addams Family to appear in the 90's, there were 2 entirely different TV series that also aired in the 90's.
    Interestingly I've noticed a lot of reactors who've reacted to the new Wednesday show (which is fantastic) complain that the depiction of Gomez - at least appearance wise - in that show isn't like the one in these movies (which is all many of them seem familiar with, Addams Family wise). But actually this representation of Gomez is the odd one out. If you react to Wednesday (or indeed the animated movies or old TV shows) you'll see what I mean.
