My hair is 95% of the time in a 2strand twist and put away until it's time for a big event. I experience an average 3/4" of growth a month and oil/massage every single day. I started my natural hair journey after my friends and my hair is now longer than theirs. Keep your hands out of your hair, wash on the same day of every week, massage/oil daily and celebrate wearing beanies and headwraps. From rocking a fade for 20 years, to now having hair just above my bra strap in 16 months.

This is bullying. I feel bullied and shamed. 😂😂😂 I do some cornrows and rock a wig without touching, moisturizing or doing anything to my hair during weeks. Yes, it breaks, yes, it becomes dry and stiff. And then, I dare to complain that my hair don't grow.

Long term protective styles ruin my hair especially if they involve added hair. I have found that low maintenance, short term, 3-5 days max works best for me. I put my hair in 7-15 sections depending on the type of braid or twist (15 sm/med French braids 13 individual braids, 9 chunky twists, When I do more flat braids I can moisturize my scalp and use light cream or oil to seep through the braids. If I do fewer chunky twist I can gently take them down every other day, massage my scalp with oil, and moisturize my hair. No matter what I always bunch the ends together and wrap them in a silk band then pin them up. These are all techniques I mixed and matched from Green Beauty advice.

I started leaving my hair in twists and twisting over once a month while washing with conditioner once a week. In between washes i keep the twists in a bun. After having an inch below collar bone hair all my life my hair is at armpit length in 4 months! Its all about figuring out how your hair personally works. I dont even use oils, products or extensions any more and if this keeps ill be mid back length this time next year! type 4

I once believed in that myths. I always do short term protective styles, dealing with my hair everyday is a life style I can't afford.

I lightly moisturize EVERY night and put into about 13 twists, stretch with scrunchies and a scarf. Wearing a moisturized protective style each night allows me to wear it out without fear each day. It takes diligence but I’ve finally reached below boob lol.

I do "low manipulation protective styles" where I loosely twist and tuck my ends under in a low, tension-free bun at the base of my neck. I still have to tidy it up every day, but it is a serious time saver! I spritz and re-moisturize every 2 days. I wash and deep-condition weekly. Since doing this (after watching your other video on protective styling), I've noticed significantly less breakage! Also, it gives me an opportunity to "baby" my crown area which tends to get drier and is more brittle (I think menopause has affected this). I still rock a wash 'n go occasionally. I share your videos with all my natural family & friends! They are so informative!

I have been following your channel for years (since I was a teen) and I just want to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I’m in my early twenties now and I’ve been maintaining my hair (including washing, deep moisturizing, etc.) by myself with the help your videos. I am so much more comfortable with caring for my hair myself because I focus on root to tip solutions rather than “looking cute” -braiding was literally breaking my soft hair. God bless you. 💛

My head hates tuck in hairstyles! It prefers braids. Ive noticed that my hear grows better and faster when i do braids(with extensions) vs natural hair twists.

I've lost a lot of hair due to protective styling and it took a long time to realize it was that and the butters. One day I had to cut the hairline and a few other spilt and damaged areas off and my hair is always loose, I only manipulate when moisturizing or cleansing. It's bouncing back. Most of what I use are very light and watery now. I just have to accept that I have fine hair that just needs to be.

Recently I tried loose twists (yea I know I’m late to the party). I was able to wear them for a week before re-moisturizing them. I really enjoyed styling them and enjoyed my hair in its stretched state. But I must say my ultimate go to protective style are mini twists which I try to do twice a year.

Congrats on the baby! I like how you just snuck that in there 😇🙃 thank you for another awesome video and great reminder on how to properly take care of our hair. I always leave my ends untucked for some extra length. I want healthier hair, and longer hair so I'm going to try protective styling for a bit. I'm excited, plus it will be cold pretty soon where I live, so what better time to practice protective styling than in fall/winter!💜💟

Currently, I'm doing African threading using regular yarn and it has reduced my hair loss during washing by a lot. I moisturize every 3-4 days but I feel like it should be every other day. Thank you for your informative videos.
