Yeah mental illness should be acceptable refuse. Although hallucinations must be properly recycled.
David Pair I know I’m late but because mental illness is usually due to a physical-ish problem in the brain (chemical imbalance), you will have to put it in the old landfill. However, traumatic memories can be recycled.

2016: The year I saw WTNV live, and read the night vale novel. The year I got an A for Biology, the year my best friend got a girlfriend, the year I finished my first good cosplay. The year I knocked six new Stephen King books off my checklist. The year Dan and Phil came to Australia. The year I got into the finals of a state business competition. The year I spent the end of, watching beautiful sunsets in Hawaii with my family. What made 2016 worth it for everyone else? I wouldn't give mine up for anything.

No-one is talking about the fact that Cecil has a tunnel to another reality in his basement and honestly i'm a bit disturbed that even I didn't think it was weird when I first listened to this.

I'm years late but the empty childhood home gave me More Than This vibes. So like- if you liked that part, try reading More Than This by Patrick Ness cause it has those "wow everything sure is weird" vibes that night vale has but maybe a bit more toned down.
I don't care how tired I am, I'm listening to this episode.
man watching this in 2023 is wild. to think we were once naive as to think 2016 would be the most worthy of being thrown out....
It seems odd to me that Cecil cares so much about old woman Josie. I mean, yes she's hurt and all but people get hurt and die in nightvale all the damn time and Cecil doesn't seem to care all that much. My theory is that when Cecil's mother and brother disappeared when he was 15, old woman Josie took him in. Her daughter had just left town and she was lonely. When we hear him talk about his family missing in cassette, he sounds confused but also like he's accepted it, and I think he would have a really hard time doing that unless he had someone to help him through. And later, as a grown man he still hangs out with his adoptive mother once a week at the bowling league and and becomes extreamy worried when she's sick. He cares for her more than Josie's own daughter not only because she helped him when he needed it but also because he never had a chance to say goodbye to his mother and he's scared the same thing might happen with Josie.
Not possible. When he first started recording Old Woman Josie was Little Josie at the time. Either Cecil is immortal or time doesn't work for him but he's much older than she is.

As a ham radio operator, I have to wonder what kind of call sign Lucinda (or any other licensed operators in Night Vale) would have.
FULL RADIO NERD MODE ENGAGING(Possibly outdated info because it's been a while since I had to learn this to get my license for it)
Depending on where Night Vale is in the American southwest, call signs from there would either contain a 5, 7, 6 or possibly a 0.
Prefixes for American amateur radio call signs can start with the letters W, N, A or K (like mine).
Call sign structure is also a factor. Lucinda could have a 2X3 call sign (2 letters, 1 number, then 3 letters), a 2X2 call sign, or a 2X1. Going off of my own experience, a 2X3 call sign is typically a ham's first call sign. Mine is a 2X3 and I've had it ever since I got my Technician Class license. My dad's original call sign was a 2X3, but one of the times he upgraded his license, he let it get changed to a 2X2.
Another variable is whether or not it's a random call sign assigned by the FCC or a vanity call sign. Vanity call signs work similarly to vanity plates for vehicles. The difference is that they must adhere to one of the call sign structures. For example, Lucinda could have a vanity call like this: NT5VLE (Assuming that 1. Someone hasn't taken that call sign and 2. Night Vale is in the 5 region on a call sign region map of the US).
I always get excited when ham radio gets mentioned in anything since not a lot of people seem to know about it. I've been a licensed ham since I was 13, and although I don't do it much anymore (I work 2 jobs, so it's hard to make time for it somedays) it's still a fun way to talk to people around the world.
