I got so sad when Cecil forgot to say "I love you" at the end of the call, but I sighed of relief when Cecil talked about it. Then I got sad again.

I don't think it's a problem. When you know someone loves you and they know you love them, it's not required to say it. Sometimes other things are on our mind or we don't necessarily want to say the words aloud because of the environment we're in (like if you're at work with a client or whatever). I was raised to always say it back because I'm ruled over by the fear that Cecil portrayed near the end of the episode-that one day I will see my family members for the last time without realizing it and not verbally reciprocate my love for them, regretting it for the rest of my life. But Cecilos is strong, and both Carlos and Cecil are very smart people. They know how the other feels. And not saying "I love you" back once-which, considering Cecil's reaction to realizing it, was the first time EVER-doesn't showcase the fact that anything in their relationship is failing. Cecilos is probably my most favorite pairing ever, because they are written the very most out of all of my OTPs to feel like real, actual people with less than perfect conversations and home life and what have you. Real people, unlike characters written out for books and movies and TV shows, forget things. They make mistakes. That's what makes them feel real, though. And I'll bet Cecil went home that exact night and apologized profusely, or at least called him and did so, and I'll bet all of my money that Carlos didn't care. Like I said, he knows.
Pasta Dash I think everyone knows that. But it was weird that Cecil didn't say it back because, well, it's Cecil come on. Also, the whole idea of that mistake is that now they left us with a cliffhanger on whether or not something happened to Carlos or Cecil...

I love the change in Cecil's voice from when he's talking on the radio to when he's talking to Carlos. He's so soft
It's such a testament to the writers that a small thing like cecil forgetting to say I love you, was picked up by so many fans before he mentions it and that it was used to make such an amazingly effective atmosphere of unease. Kudos

THEORY TIME! Carlos was not acting like his usual self. Maybe, he discovered something that made him believe that Night Vale is doomed. Although he could probably leave, he knows that Cecil won't. So he's become resigned to his fate. Carlos doesn't want Cecil to know because;
A) he doesn't want Cecil to lose hope like he has
B) he doesn't want Cecil to blab it over the radio causing a city wide panic.
He wants Cecil there with him so he can spend his last days with him.

Cecil's question for Maureen hit close to home for me. My mother died almost two years ago and the last thing I said was bye because I was running late for work. I usually told her I loved her and/or hugged her and I didn't that day. It's one of my biggest regrets. So, to hear it put into words like that kinda hurt. Take every chance you have to tell someone you love them. Tell them for no reason. Tell them for every reason. Don't let something unspoken haunt you.

Is it just fill in the blanks of nice, peaceful scenarios?
I like even In the face of upcoming danger that isn't the regular mundane for Nightvale danger that the town faces every day that Cecil and Carlos are so adorable together . I'm hoping that the former Dessert Bluff citizens have found old oak doors to the desert otherworld and are going to create a new Strex co free Desert Bluffs there . Kevin could use some company to make him like he was before Strex co entered his life . That is the few positive that I got from this episode.
I absolutely loved everything about this episode (first time I've been captivated by and listened to the full weather in months) but my favorite by far is using Emma Frankland, a nearly unknown theater/performance artist and notable transgender woman, as the voice of Sheriff Sam. If WTNV is anything, it's inclusive. And weird. But mostly, wonderfully, inclusive.
They did do that one episode where the weather was Against Me!
I was so, so scared when she said "The Night Vale" because I thought it was going to be followed by "and Desert Bluffs Metropolitan Area"
I know it’s been years, but whenever I lose a loved one, a pet, grandparent, or now after a breakup, I listen to Cecil talk about forgetting to say I love you. And I have a good little cry.
Can we talk about how around 8 minutes in when Cecil is talking to Sam, Grimes Maim V. Kill is playing in the background?? Lmao
I now want to know want mistakes Cecil made in his youth
So a few things that made me laugh, or worry, or both before actually finishing this broadcast:

OH my god.. I was re-listening this episode and the ending hit me like a ton of bricks. This is one of the genuinely scary episodes of Night Vale, I think.
