  • In this video, learn about the impact of forged or weak hadiths. Dr. Shabir Ally explains that many of the controversies about Islam that arise today stem from these hadiths. He offers an example of hadiths which are graded authentic but contradict each other on basic #Islamic practices. He also offers an example of a hadith which is graded authentic but seems to contradict the #Quran. Host Dr. Safiyyah Ally asks Dr. Shabir Ally why scholars didn’t realize these hadiths were problematic, and how to avoid falling into the trap of judging hadiths based on our whims and desires.

Salaam. I'm a Jewish convert to Islam from Iranian and Aramaic background. As far the prophet ordering someone to do something. The Quran says that he has no right to make laws. Allah subhanahu wataala is the only One Who legislate laws. The prophet had no right to add to or subtract anything from the Quran. These hadiths and so-called scholars have caused the Muslim world to abandon the Quran and deviate from Islam. They are responsible for all of the ignorance, superstitions, backwardness, women's devaluation and oppression, division and bloodshed that exists in among Muslims. It's a tradgedy that we have abandoned the Quran and have taken our so-called scholars, imams, muftis, mullahs, maualanas and sheikhs to be lords besides God. This is one major reason why we Muslims have been humiliated.
Our only hope is for us to repent and every Muslim to read, study, learn, understand and follow the Quran ourselves. We must read the Quran for the purpose of searching for guidance as it was intended for. Following the Quran is our solution. The days of the scholars and imams misleading people are over.

Does a person’s soul/spirit cease to exist when they die? Isn’t the Islamic belief that our souls are conscious before we were born and after we die?
The Second Person of the Trinity, who is spirit, took on human nature, being born in the likeness of men. This person was given the name Jesus (God is Salvation) by his earthly parents. He is one person with two natures (a human which he got from his mother, and a divine nature from the Spirit of God. The natures do not mix!). You and I are persons with one nature (human).
So when Jesus died, as men naturally do, the Second Person of the Trinity did not suddenly cease to exist because He is from of old.
After Jesus’ death, his spirit left his body but the spirit did not die. This spirit was uncreated and exists from everlasting to everlasting. This spirit returned to Jesus’ body after 3 days and raised him from the dead.
Jesus took on human nature because he loves us and he died to achieve for us humans the salvation of our souls.
Now, we understand that you do not believe the doctrine of the Incarnation or in the vicarious suffering of Jesus Christ, to refute a Christian doctrine, you have to engage with Christian theology. Asking glib and gotcha questions is not best to examine the Christian faith. Rather a sincere attempt must be made to understand the tradition. I am sure you would expect the same from a person looking into Islam.
For God is my King from of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth. - Psalms 74:12

I have a question for Dr. Shabir, please answer me.
I am not talking about this particular hadith but as a general idea.
What I understood is that you think that the hadith 13:45 which we consider authentic is in fact weak and the reason why scholars did not pay attention to this was that it was consistent with the general outlook of their time.
But in our time, that view has changed, so we note that this hadith is in fact weak.
My question is to Dr. Shabir, who can guarantee you that there will not come a time in the future that they think, according to their society and what they are familiar with, that this Hadith is OK, will it become authentic then !! ??
Doctor, don't you think this is a wrong way of thinking?
Don't you think that this is compliments, an attempt to please and make concessions to society at the expense of Allah's religion !?
    Allah said:
It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.
    Quran (33:36)
In addition to what Allah said in this verse, do you not trust Allah?
Another point, you generalized and said that the hadiths is Dhani !!!
Don't you think there is a contradiction? You mentioned the mutawater hadiths, is it also Dhani?
Even if it is my Dhani, does this mean that we leave it?
What about the Qur’an some verses are "Dhani Dalala", so should we leave this verses as well?

A hadiths authenticity is not based on wether its relevant for the time we are in or what norms we follow. Hadiths are going through a thorrow analysis to count links and to see if the words change throughout the time this hadith has been used.
Dont quote me on this cus i might remember wrong but i think i remember that a hadith needs at least 30% to be authentic. Anything else is concidered weak. I will of course check so im sure of what i said is correct but this is how i remember it.
Allah also told us that only his words are true and we are not allowed to intentionally fabricate hadiths or change the words of Allah.

There seems to be something of a contradiction here. If Muslims can forget the exact words or lines of the daily prayer, how did all those transmitters in the isnad manage to pass on each hadith through numerous generations without changing a single word. Did they have written versions to aid their collective memory or was it strictly oral tradition? Can you give me one example of a known line of transmitters in which each one handed down a hadith word for word? Which hadith is it? Also I would like to know what has this complicated line of transmission of Hadith got to do with the claim that the Qur'an itself is perfectly preserved. If that is true, then why the need for Hadiths in the first place. The late date of the Hadiths is also a problem isn't it?

That people "forgot" the number of times a call to prayer is repeated is a hypothesis that Dr. Shabir puts forth, based on the fact that people today would object it.
The argument that others would put forth regarding these differing hadiths with authentic chains, is that during the time of the Prophet (sall.), he was the one who is to teach and object. It is known that he taught the second call to prayer - once with 11 lines in Medina and once with 17 lines in Makkah (after conquest) , the latter has more lines basically due to repetition.
Regarding other variations in the call, it is also possible that if the caller repeats more number of times than he should, and the Prophet (sall.) did not object, people would refrain from objecting too. And people who transmit such variations form a hadith. In this case, we would choose the hadith of the companion to whom we attribute more knowledge in Islam without denying the variant hadiths.
The notion that for many acts of worship the Prophet (sall.) taught/permitted slight variations here and there exists from his time.

It didn’t pass first generations they didn’t consider Hadiths mandatory to follow they new a lot of them were false so took Hadiths who are compatible contextual interpretation of the Quran or who are common sense because Hadiths provided more literature it was much later people started claiming there were authentic Hadiths.

Bro, sex between two unmarried persons is prohibited in Islam, be it gays or straight. In modern world, even if this thing is allowed or normalized, we as muslims, are not supposed to go outside the bounds of Islam. but in any case, that restriction is coming from within, not that anyone is physically forcing us for these restrictions.
So, yes, one may have extreme urge for rape [as you can find videos, even on youtube where rape is glamorized ], one may have extreme urge for child molestation, one may have extreme urge for money [may lead to thefts or robbary ], one may have extreme urge for every single thing in this world..... The Islamic position is this... God created you and God put those urges in you to test you whether you follow his given commandments or not. In Islam, you are not condemned for having these urges, you are condemned when you actually act upon those urges and especially when you do it without any shame...

Sometimes, it is a matter of context, when a text is cut or taken out of a context looks completely incorrect. The beauty in the science of hadith is that the early scholars did not interfere in the meaning of the text. Moreover, the early scholars did not have the full opportunity to compare texts and studies, as they did not have a fax, mail, or Internet. So today we have a raw and virgin text. Therefore, today we can continue our investigation and comparison studies and make use of computer and communication technologies

Honestly, while I try my best to not be egotistic and appreciate the higher learning of many scholars, I find it hard not to instantly dismiss anyone that accepts that supposed story of the prophet Muhammad saw, not only is the issue about the extreme dynamic that that prophet saw supposedly suggests between the husband and wife, but the language itself, it's not longer about sexism or equality, it's the same language those who encourage shirk use, the way of talking of the munafaqeen, to attribute such a statement to the prophet saw is an insult to him, the Quran and the religion as a whole.
How am I supposed to trust all these very convincing sahih processes when they accept something so ridiculous?
I'm not saying I use it as an excuse to decry all the hadith and the scholars, far from it, but the same way salafists confidently say that the shia branch was corrupted even from the time of hijra, it makes it seem quite evident that a part of the sunni teachings were corrupted very early on.

It is determined by who pays the most money to youtube. Right now, despite the amounts of money that are going toward ramadan related advertising, many of us are seeing a series of ads for a norwegian "dawah center". In one of these ads, Zakir Naik, a neo-salafist/wahabist who conflates his own violent rhetoric with Islam, against what is stated in the Quran, is promoting this dawah center. This man has openly called for violence so many times that his television channel has been banned in some western countries. If he is supporting a "dawah center" it is likely it won't be teaching Islam, but instead anti-islamic wahabism/neo-salafism. Don't mistake their ad playing during this video as an endorsement by let the quran speak and don't follow links generated by that ad or give them any money!

I respectfully must disagree with Dr. Ally. In almost the same breath he contradicts himself. He claims no hadiths justify what Muslim youths are doing in killing non-Muslim civilians then states they will find some of their justification in some hadiths which have some questions about them. First of all, Dr. Ally must admit that it is not just Muslim youths killing no-Mulsim civilians. He must also admit that Muslims do not have to refer to hadiths to justify the killing of non-Muslim civilians as the Quran gives adequate justification for the same. Sura 47:1-12 is a prime example of the Quran giving license for Muslim believers to strike the necks(behead)of disbelievers. Sura 5:33 " Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and his messenger and strive upon earth to cause corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land." Muslim "scholars" such as Dr. Ally will claim that these types of verse only applies to conditions of war. Unfortunately for the unbelievers(kafirs), a Muslims interpretation of war can mean the simple fact that you are a disbeliever and or you are causing mischief in the land. Sura 3:118 "O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves, for they will not spare you any ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs if you will use reason." These along with many other suras give clear justification for Muslims to subjugate, kill or expel non-Muslim civilians (Kafirs) from any and all lands. Question....why are there any false suras found in today's literature? If these suras were deemed false, why were they not destroyed, burned, or thrown into the Nile River like earlier Qurans and manuscripts?
