    So since the rams like to change partners every once in a while, wouldn't it be easier to use a larger tank like a 29g long, or a 40g breeder. Then you could set up a bunch of well protectable areas, and put in like 4 males, and 8 females, and let them naturally rotate partners. Then you can just take out the eggs whenever laid and have less work pairing, and preparing tanks. Two 40g breeders with this method would be able to do like 8-10 of the work of those smaller tanks.
    I actually put discus, and angel breeding pairs together for this reason. They do naturally switch partners, and as long as their is enough room and sight blocks, then they dont bother the other breeding pairs.
    Also a piece of info ive learned about rams is they prefer driftwood for egg laying. Its weird but ive tried pots, rocks, plastic cones, etc. They will always choose driftwood for me. It seems others also have noticed this from conversations ive had with them and their rams.

    PLecos need fast flow and highly oxygenated water. Add at least one power hea\d and place airline tube below the power head tobreak up the larger bubbles to make micro bibbles.

    Add a small heater into your fry bins. I suspect they were moving to the warmest part of the bin, but it wasa not warm enough to start their internal metabolism. Fish like reptiles and amphibians are cold blooded for the most part.

  • @jeremyk9717
    @jeremyk9717 Před 2 lety

    Small handful of guppy grass or the likes in the spawn bin will help with stressed ram fry. Do you keep a lid on the spawn bins? I've been breeding kribs and with the next batch I'm hoping to start with some Julidiochromis. Best of luck!

    Boil your indian almond leaves and cool them nefore adding. this will remove any potential pesticides and fertilizers, and other polutants. Do ot add the boiled water into your tanks. Water your house plants with it once cioled.

    I always enjoy your videos, I breed lots of rams myself here in the US. A couple of comments, ideas, suggestions for you. I only use the meth blue for a day or so, then I dilute it with water changes until it is gone as the fry hatch. I have great success when the parents raise the fry, but that is not always possible. I think the water in the tray with the fry is too stagnate from what i see in the video. Deans fry system uses a water pump to slow drip fresh water from the tank in to the trays. If you can pull that off, I find it a very good approach. Finally, by keeping the fry in the tray for a few weeks, it keeps them closer to the food, making it easier to find. With the fry trays, you should be going for the larger volume of water from the tank, but keeping the fry in proximity to their food. After a couple weeks in the fry tray, I move the batch into their own 10gallon tank, then eventually into a 40 gallon or larger. Cheers

    my pair always spawn on a big drift wood on the same spot. when there are better spots from a humans point of view lol
    the drift wood is on the center of the 40 gallon tank and therefore always get eaten by other fish.

      @Bobby11 Před 2 lety +1

      Yea rams are weird, one of my tanks they have pots, a few pieces of drift wood, smooth stones.. but they choose the top of the sponge filter lol.

      Hello, im doing my research on this because i want to breed mi little rams, i have a pair, they eat a lot and they seem healthy, but its been 1 year and a half since i have them but i havent got any fry or even eggs, i have them on a PH of 7.5 tho, do you know whats the PH on your aquarium were they breed?
      Thanks.

    • @Bobby11
      @Bobby11 Před 2 lety

      @@ciber5650 Rams naturally live in lower ph water (Below 7) So that could explain why they have never spawned. if you lower PH be careful not to do it quickly because if they have lived in 7.5 for so long you dont want to shock them. Adding drift wood that releases tannin's could help.

    • @ciber5650
      @ciber5650 Před 2 lety

      @@Bobby11 I will try to gradually add some driftwood and monitor my PH to see if it goes down, thanks for the reply.
