Well done Mark, I hope this works out, looking at a spare 30x30 cube tank I have sitting around. There was some nice German Blue Rams in my LFS last weekend, I can feel another attempt coming on.

    Hi Mark, watched both your Vids 👍🏻👍🏻I've got a male and female who have dug a hole and seemingly layed in my sand substrate. I have a 250l so I've devided it as its a community tank. I had a couple of guppies in with them for a while until the male started charging them so they came out. It seems now the female sometimes chases the male, do you think I should take him out? I haven't seen any movement from the females laying area but she's still watching over it.
    Any tips would be appreciated.

    My GBRams that have eaten their last 2 batches of babies have the back and sides of their own tank covered, as well as a top that partially covers the tank. I just took black paper and made a cover for the front of the tank leaving about a 2.5" strip on top open. Do you think I should not turn on their light? Are they more comfortable with a dark tank while breeding and raising fry?
    The closest I got to live fry was swimmers for a few days to a week then they ate them all. I didn;t trust them and took some fry and managed to raise some that are now in my community tank looking good.

    Rams are my absolute favorite fish. When I have tanks I always have at least a pair. It is also my nightmare fish - I must have had 400 spawns when I was half professional. How many did I raise? Ten. Out of a potential 80 000 eggs. I wanted the parents to take care of the young, so I never took out the eggs for hatching them by themselves. I have tried so many different set ups, different strands of rams (including wild caught) but never really managed to raise more than ten. BUT. I have not given up yet! :D

    • @MARKSAQUATICS

      @jokervienna6433 Před 5 lety

      @@MARKSAQUATICS I was really surprized that your pair took care of the fry. Perhaps you where too? :) Since it is my favorite fish all-time I have a dream of one day setting up a really big tank for them. In Cichlid Atlas I have read that in the wild it is most often the males that raise the fry alone so it would be interesting to have 5-6 males and 1-2 females in a very big tank.
      Fun fact: this is the only cichlid where the genus name ends with -cromis instead of -chromis. The person that named them wrote wrong and it went through (also according to Cichlid Atlas). :)
