Because Nate mentions multiple times that this is a highly toxic substance, holding it bare handed could lead to poison like mercury if you held it bare handed. So if you ingested it, I'm very sure it would take some sort of negative toll on your health.

ferrofluid uses diesel as the fluid that suspends the nano-particles, it'll just boil off
They've already conducted this experiment. Collected data on ferrofluids ocilatory dynamics and producing a flux energy field for a conductivity through a magnetic coil, which was wrapped around the containment unit.

Ferro fluid is Laser jet toner. It is really printer ink. The printer uses function to ionize particles of the ink with a laser beam. to create the image and. with high dry temperature

Get a really strong magnet and when you want to recover the ferrofluid off a weaker magnet you can place it in a container and use the stronger magnet to pull it off through the wall of the container.
You should use your rotating camera jig to film a levitating magnet covered in ferrofluid.

To get it off, you could try to put the dirty magnet in a container and put a stronger magnet outside the container to pull it off the original into a container. The container will prevent the ferrofluid from sticking to the new magnet. Just a suggestion/idea

Use a ziploc freezer bag and put the fluid covered magnet inside, use another magnet on the outside to attract fluid and pull covered magnet out collecting the fluid in the bag.

And try putting liquid gallium into it!

Couldn't you use coils of wire inside plastic shells to make a similar effect that you could turn on and off? You could also make complex/interesting shapes with it and see how the ferrofluid reacted around it.
Try heating the magnets to get the ferrofluid off! When a magnet reaches a particular temperature (the Curie point) it will temporarily relinquish its magnetic field
