Chris yelling "F5.6!!!" made my day =D
Just bought this camera (May 2023).
It is brilliant. So fast, incredible image quality, fine up to 3200 iso, great 4k video and that lens… peerless.
How do you find the battery life? I've heard not so great things about it.
@@jasonrdunn It's no problem at all.
For the money you paying - it better fckn will be.
I like when you guys film with the camera you are reviewing
So do we! We hope to do it often when a camera has compelling video features.
I absolutely love that you guys are sticking to what we TCTS TV subscribers love about you. Don't ever change!
8:17 lol that angry shout
JeffDvrx I died
Using the F-word in photography is OK. 🤪
Haha. That shout is exactly why I love watching every video these two guys make 👍
😂😂😂😂
Channel growing???? Of course it's going to grow, especially you are Chris and Jordan. You two guys are a great team and work extremely well together. DP Review is lucky to have you and you them. Your reviews are sensational and the video to match. Keep doing what you are doing and your subscribers will be even larger than they were before. Please don't forget what you always did for the Christmas reviews, when you talked about next years tech over drinks, hilarious. You two are bright stars on the CZcams horizon. There are plenty of people on You Tube that need to step up their game, but you two are not one of them. Keep up the good work.
The Camera Store bus scene was classic. 👌
Wow. What a difference when you get the right reviewers for the company. Never a fan of dpreview CZcams channel review. But now it will be my to go channel for review. Nice job guys. Keep it up. And stay original.
nice to see, that your humor is still around... love you guys...
Having both in depth photography and video reviews, humour and Canadian make you two my favourite reviewers. You guys and the straight pipes for cars. They also Canadian.
These were like your best pictures ever in a review, Chris! Really really liked them! :)
I really appreciate hearing that. Thank you so much.
Chris@DPREVIEW
Now that you guys are doing this show on a weekly basis, I am very happy and hope the pressure to produce high quality reviews won't be too great in the long run.
Great review. Very thorough and informative. As well as a high production value.
Love y'all's reviews! So informative and you make it so fun to watch!
I bought this camera a couple weeks ago and i'm really loving it. It's perfect for just walking around town taking shots, and it produces video MUCH better than my rebel camera. It's definitely not a camera for a pro sports photog or wedding photog, but for a guy who likes taking photos and making silly youtube videos it's perfect. Also the electric zoom can be controlled with the mobile app which is nice for someone who films themselves with a camera on a tripod.
question if you still have the camera... is the hdmi output 4k?
The best camera review I have ever seen. The stills made me want to go out and take pictures. I don't shoot video often, but I really like Jordan's take on the video capabilities of cameras.
That's high praise! Thank you so much!
You are best in DP review rather than the TCSTV! All the best for your new journey ✌️
After a year of other reviews, you guys still top them all. Good explanation about what we want to know and nothing else. I'm sure you have more info on the website for those who are crazy picky with specs that will just be topped with the next camera.
For a lot of people, this is all the camera you'll ever need. And for all the focal length it has, it may be cheaper in the long run than buying multiple lenses. I'm hoping the next version has the new Sony battery and at least UHS-II SD if not XQD for a damn near infinite buffer. The addition of built in ND filters would be awesome even if a bit of bulk was added. The camera has great ergonomics as long as you're not back button focusing. The MI hotshoe is handy too because it allows you to use anything you already have for other Sony cameras. I was able to use a Phottix Odin II on it which is awesome.
Having been an amateur enthusiast with an SLR back in the day and a DSLR up until recently, I lost interest in photography (certainly with the DSLR) for some reason (well, mainly the need to lug bodies and lenses around when I travelled). Now, with a view to getting back into photography by taking advantage of these kinds of cameras that do so much in a single unit, I really appreciate your review. I've just starting looking at the range of bridge cameras out there, and hope to see more from you guys. Clear, concise, honest and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
what about zoom lenses having an approximate range of 18-300mm. Its more or less the same with a bigger sensor and a nice flexible range
Do you think that a 18-300 or 18-400 can take the good quality like this? Because a read bad opinion for tamron 18-400, and the F is worse than this. I d like to see some (vs) picture of the same sobject.
Excellent job on the video guys, lots of great shots too.
Thanks for the thorough and cool photographer's-eye-view of this camera.
I dunno why buy I enjoy listening to Chris. Lmao It feels like a close friend is patiently talking u through everything. And Jordan is always veeery informative with the video part of the review. 👌👌👌. Love that u guys work with DPreview now 😁
We're excited to work with DPReview as well!
Love your work guys 👌 great balance of entertainment and information 😃
I just bought this one...can't wait to put it to use!! Thanks for the detailed review!
You guys did so amazing on this review!!
High praise coming from you! Thanks!
Where da update ? Sony ???
Covid ate it :)
Covid is gone…..
8:14 best scene of any camera review ever in recent history hahahaha
Damn how I love DPreview! Thanks for the great job in this review!
Really great to see how fast u guys put out new videos. Thats what i was hoping for when u switched to dpreview. the time between tcstc videos was kinda long and lonely.
Dang, that girl at 13:25 looked like Jackie Kennedy in some awesome jeans.
Anyway, price and drawbacks aside, the results from this camera were great in my opinion.
I'm not a Sony fan, but they do come out with some very nice gear. Nice review guys.
agreed
Great video guys. Love the style, keep it up!
Great review, so comprehensive. You didn't cover minimum focal distance and macro, though. The price seems outrageous, as it appears to be the same hardware as the last generation with some software features like AF and continuous shooting. Lacking IBIS does not make sense, because when you zoom the picture seems to get soft, would be nice if there's IBIS working in conjunction with OIS. Wish there's manual zoom instead, much faster, but that means the lens wouldn't be able to pack up tightly when you turn it off. I like Jordan's idea of having a 24-200 mm lens with constant aperture instead, because 200 mm seems plenty of zoom, yet 600 mm makes it fun, yet images don't seem that sharp when you zoom all the way out. Maybe a competitor can do a 24-200 mm version, maybe Canon could. I've been anticipating this camera for a long time because I want to see a refresh that includes the new features of the rx100 v, especially the AF, which this camera seems to have outdone it with an A9 like AF. I think it's a great camera, but given the huge price increase, the lack of IBIS, and the softness, the slow on/off and the lack of manual zoom, and the small battery, it still doesn't feel perfected. For the price I want a near perfect product. I don't know, even if it were perfect it's still very expensive.
I wonder if they are going to refresh the rx1 next.
Minivan of cameras - haha, so true! I got the RX10 III for my mom and she loves it. Great review guys!
Fantastic review!! I always learn a lot from you guys and you’re a lot of fun too. I’ve also subscribed.
Just bought this in May 2024 and took it to Chobe River. Love it and photos are sharp. Glad that I left the 70-240mm and 400-600mm lenses at home. Getting old and carrying heavy weight lenses would kill my back. Batteries lasted relatively long for its size. Love it.
Nice to see you have a new haircut Chris!
So much review in one single comedy video!
Awesome! Seems like nothing has changed with the move in terms of your videos! Also, I was really impressed with the sharpness of the video on this camera. Watching on my 4k screen I was leaning in to look at all of Jordan's beautiful sharply rendered stubble!
That snap at 3:04 of the model and image is stunning. Well done.
...Just have to take a moment to say: these guys are absolutely the best camera reviewers out there. DPR was totally right to snag them from TCS. The. Very. Best.
Thank you for the great review! Love my RX10 III. The review did not quite answer whether the RX10 IV is a worthy upgrade, but still enjoyed hearing your opinions a lot. Never looked at it as the minivan of cameras, but love the analogy.
very fair review Chris and Jordan...one of my favorite Sony cameras ever...and Jordan, I am with you -- I would like the RX10II v2 as well!! Give me the PDAF, back button focus, stacked sensor AND the NDs and you've got a fantastic camera! Nice to see you guys at Kando!!
Not a camera that I'm much interested in, but an excellent review as usual. Glad you enjoyed my backyard.
Nice review. Also about time DP-review got longer videos about cameras.
Great Vid as usual! More please very soon!!!!
Master class on how reviews should be done :)
Such a helpful video for someone like me who has recently bought a Sony RX10iv. Thank you!
Great review! Until this video, I was thinking to myself that since you guys moved to DPReview it seemed like you lost some of your mojo from your previous channel. Very entertaining and informative.
Just picked one up, for a bridge camera it is great. I love having the reach and I am willing to give up sensor size for what I need it for.
This is as good an ad for Monterey as it is for the RX10 IV. And that means great. I was just in Monterey last weekend and, having been there dozens of times, I never tire of it. And as much as I resist getting a bridge camera (even though I've owned two 1-inch models) I would love to get my hands on one of these Sonys. Good job.
As usual..another great review...Thank you..!!
Nice video man. Love your vids
very enjoyable piece, I love the camera...Thanks for the tips.
Great review! There was no mention of what you were using for recording audio though. Particularly on that zoom-in test video. I didn't see a lavaliere mic there, but you had one hidden, obviously. What did you use during that video shoot? I'm looking for a good mic setup for video, so I'd appreciate your response. Thx!
I just watched the conclusion and it was exactly what i expected to hear. What i didn't expect was for this camera to be one of your first Dpreview video reviews. Have people really been asking for this ?
I will be waiting for the Tamron 28/75 f2.8 e mount review and the Sigma 70 macro and 105 f1.4
e mount reviews.
What would your recommendation be between the Sony RX10iii, Sony RX10iv, and Panasonic FZ2500? I want this camera specifically to film hunts from open field edges to dense timber.
Great review, I subscribed! I have the RX10 Mk1 and I absolutely love that camera for travel, specially the lens. I'd also buy the proposed RX10 Mk ii 2 (with 24-200mm f/2.8 lens and the new sensor). Greetings from Brazil.
I like the minivan 🚐 analogy. Took me 3 sittings to watch this review. Difficult for me to get intrigued by a minivan. Lol. As always though happy to watch the content!
For future videos maybe think about including Dan with short tech analysis? He could record his segment in SF and then you'd merge it with the Canadian side of DPR. Anyway great video as usual, some amazing photos from Chris (3:00) and Dan (13:14), keep it up.
Just got this camera. Surw hope the next version has a few tweeks thats for sure. But I'm excited to put this one to use until the mark V comes out.
I’ve got this camera 2 years ago.. I can tell u it’s the best I’ve ever used.. I been using it in every new country I visit.
worth the money?
@@ahmedrashed78 100%
Thanks for the review guys. For someone who wants to shoot both photos and videos (for travel) would you still recommend the RX10ii or RX10IV? Love the lower travel weight of the RX10ii and constant F2.8 lens. Just worried that after 3 years the RX10ii is a bit outdated...
I was able to get one used, a few months after initial release. At about 25% less than retail I think this camera is amazing! And the ergonomics - compared to my a6300 it's a dream to hold.
Devan Rawn I sold my A6300 to buy one and so glad I did! 👌
Really? Hmm, maybe I should try this thing.
Tony Gillahan
How about the difference in image quality?
Would you say it is noticeable?
νικος γιώργος a little bit worse IQ but not enough for me to worry about 👍I use it more for video
Thank you guys for your opinion! Now I also want to buy that camera!
Your Photos were on Point today Chris.
Thanks Emmanuel! I was feeling the camera on this trip. It does impart a sense of confidence when using it. Nice when a camera just works well. The overwhelming consensus on this camera is that its a solid performer so they did something right.
Chris@DPREVIEW
Chris Niccolls yeah. i wasn't really impressed with the camera until i saw those amazing pictures
Yeah Chris, I do mean this as a compliment but your photos this time had the highest 'pause' rate for me. Wherein I actually paused the video to just enjoy the wonderful photos. Not saying that your work earlier was poor. Just saying that you've obviously hit a high note.
Good to know the camera also felt right. Out of all the CZcamsrs I keep up with, your opinion is the one I trust the most.
Nice job guys!!
Guys, thank you for this honest review. Is there any other option for interviews, gun&run style.
And the most important not grabbing attention. I hand shoulder mount camera but not able to use it every where.
Another wonderful review. Loved this.
Smashing performance as always boys, indepth review, nice dialogue and classic corny humour, photo and video facilities compared and demonstrated .
But would and could you guys do a video about the best and worst of the bridge camera sector, what they are great for and in particular the FZ 2500 .
If anyone in Sony reads this, all I want in RX10 V (not necessarily for Cristmass) is (in order of priority):
-UHS-II card slot
-Focus point joystick
-Improved IS
-Improved weather-sealing
-Their best AF in all non-HFR modes
-Dual gain ISO
-USB C for power, charging and data transfer
-fully articulated touchscreen
-bigger battery with longer battery life
-tripod screw mount closer to the lens and not near the edge
-5/6K30p 8-bit 4.2.0 (10-bit would be awsome) - internal
-4K30p 10-bit 4.2.2 full width, oversampled (60p would be awsome) - internal
-HFR same as RX10 IV but at slightly better quality
-24-bit audio without XLR adapter?
I would pay any money!
very good review !!!
thanks guys-great video, im a big fan :-)
i love the rx10 ii . its an amazing camera, and man those rx10's just get great video.
As from this day on you will be known as 'Creeper Chris' :) great review as always guys and great to see you are settling in well into your new home, pipe and slippers yet?
Hi guys, thanks for the review! How would you rate this camera for landscape and architecture photography? From 1 to 10
I'm trying to decide between this, the Panisonic Fz2500 and the Nikon P1000.
Video will be school events in halls and the occasional sporting days.
Primarily will be still shots. I love nature shots, especially birds and long exposures of waterfalls. Given that, i feel the low light capabilities is a must, but sometimes with nature it is impossible to get close to what you are photographing, hence i need a decent zoom with good quality images.
Any suggestions or guidance?
Great review. I wish you had said something about the flash function and/ or possibilities.
Another great review!
Awesome Review! The camera is a beast for travel.
I agree with Jordan and thats why I like RX10 Mark 1. 1) Build in ND filter means you never run out of shutter speed and your flash works in the midday sun, and 2) constant 2.8 aperture means your video does not get dark as you are zooming in. RX10 Mark 2 is even better because it adds 4K. Mark 3 and Mark 4 removed the ND filter and changed it to variable aperture cameras.
It is variable aperture mainly because the lens is 3 times the size of the mk 1 and 2.
Great review👍
@4:54 FYI, the aperture ring click can be toggled using the switch on the bottom of the lens.
OMG I 100% agree with Jordan about the RX10 2. I never owned that one, but I've used it, and I tell you what....I was turned off after they went superzoom and variable. If they did like he said, and made it with phase detect....I'd buy one too!
The Fz300 is 2.8 all the way and goes to 600mm(but the AF SUCKS since it's a few years old), so don't see why they couldn't have done the same here.
@@TamanduaGirl the AF of my fz300 is good enough to capture small active birds (like sunbirds) at 600mm equivalent focal length. I even prefer the af speed and decisiveness of my fz300 than my em-1 mark2 which utilize pdaf. Truly impressed by the dfd tech.
Great test you two. The video quality out of this camera looks about like I thought it would, maybe a bit worse. If it was shot in S-Log 2, maybe I’d have a slightly different opinion, but the tight highlight roll off, absence of really any shallow DoF, soft image quality during long zooms, small sensor color palate/control, idk- I hoped I’d be more impressed. It reminds me of the X70 camcorder (for obvious reasons). Good test though guys.
Very nice review. Was this video shot with the Sony RX10 IV?
Great report thank you
Not one comment or comparison to the Panisonic Fz2500 bridge that in a previous review you seemed to really like. ? ?
Hey guys! I got 2 questions about this camera! I need to now if the zoom of the lens can be controlled by one of the rings and not only via the stick on the shutter button. Second question is, what gimbal would work with this camera?
Hi, very good review. How good it is for macro pictures?
I cut my teeth with Minolta - when Sony bought the camera division I waited to see how things would go. So the first releases of Sony DSLRs backwards compatible with Minolta AF (D) lenses and flashes so all was well. So now my aging Alpha A350 body (14 MP) is now so dated. I've just now started to look around for my successor - this Bridge camera seems like a winner. It will not take the place of the truly Pro stuff but it is way above the typical point and shoot offerings out there. So The RX10 IV is my number one choice at this moment. My not willing to start over with a expensive DSLR set up of body, 6 lenses and high end flash. It would be $10K or more to replace everything I now have but be up to date. So onward with the RX10 (probably) Thank you for this review. I found it very helpful.
What camara would you recommend for jewelry pictures and videos ? Also just to take to events, beach etc with a good zoom ? Thanks
Very nice job, Chris and Jordan, as usual. I'm glad DPR sniped you. I can actually support DPR by clicking on links to buy, whereas I couldn't reasonably support The Camera Store.
Here's a video idea: Sony RX10 IV vs. an entry level APS-C camera with a couple lenses to make up the difference in cost. For example, and entry-level Nikon APS-C camera, a 24-120 lens and then a wide angle or telephoto? This is a good way to highlight what a fellow can get for his money.
Subscribed.
hi, for wildlife video (principaly) and photo is better the rx10IV or panasonic fz 2000/2500?
Great video. Thanks. Great camera. Alot of camera for that price. 1 inch sensor is enaugh for my shooting, don't need more.
But doesn't that camera has a zoom and focus ring. Isn't that working faster if you aren't happy with the zoom speed by button? Can't you change the zoom speed in the menu, or is this only for video mode.
I agree with you, the nd filter is missing also the timer. Would be nice if i could load programs like the mk3 was cappable off.
So go for a mk2 version 2.
Or wait for the mk5??
Screen doesnt tilt other way? neither does the A7iii, low battery life? carry spares, to me you are reviewing this like it was a pro camera, fact they put a 600mm is amazing and so is the 24fps, if I had seen this before I bought the A7Riii I might have been tempted.
While it's not a true "pro" level camera - it is amazing for what it is and yes, this review is overly negative compared to most. Like the comment about the zoom being slow...really? Compare it to changing a lens. I get so many shots the interchangeable lens crowd will miss entirely.
I think for it to be a good family camera, it needs:
1. videoshoot piano recitals. How does it work in low light, how is the onboard mic, does it overheat, does it have the 30 minute shooting limit, how long does the battery last.
2. Trips to the zoo. It has nice zoom, so its covered.
3. Per wee sports game. The electronic zoom's slowness could be an issue? Good to have the new AF here.
4. Ease of use, intuitive UI, which seems to be a little lacking here.
Fu Chen go with the rx10ii for the family aspect, better deal overall.
as stated in the review the one inch sensor impedes its low light functionality. onboard mic is just ok.. use an external mic since it has a jack for it. Yes it has a 30 minute video limit. battery rated at 400 shots. Its a great camera for me. I love it!
Those were some really nice shots all things considered.
Is the rx10 iv menu system more complicated or about the same as a7 iii ? I'm considering the less expensive option. Im not a pro and have a limited budget.
I'm still thinking about buying one, but waiting for RX10mkV..... great review :D
I need help in choosing my first pro camera, the Sony Rx 10 iv or the Panasonic Lumix G9? Thanks
