    Really loved steve in this interview, no nonsense... "wear your boots, the creases will come back"... seriously, we wear heritage boots, these arent yeezys. creases, wrinkles, scuffs, ect all tell the story of what you are wearing, take care of them and they will patina beautifully

      Yess! If thats your thing, ay do you! But i dont think people new to these boots should automatically think they gotta be precious about them. Heritage fashion is rooted in longing for the days where you didn’t have to baby your stuff for it to last. Its not about your boots always being “catwalk ready” lol. If people wanna judge ya creases- let em! Haha

    I had an issue with my Thursday boots that I do not think was very good on their part. Part of the reason they charge pennies for their boots is because the QC isn’t the same as let’s say, red wing, Grant Stone, viberg, etc.
    I had a pair where the left boot had tons of grain break but the right boot was perfectly fine. All I expect is that both boots have the same grain break, not that there shouldn’t be any in the first place.
    I spent just a bit more for Grant Stone diesel boots in chromexcel and they are creasing beautifully.

  • @jbr2
    @jbr2 Před 2 lety

    I don’t mind a few wrinkles in the vamp area. The shoes need to flex to be worn. However, I make sure I use shoe/boot trees (immediately after taking my shoes off) and conditioner, regularly, to avoid cracking the leather which is far more destructive to the shoe. I’ve never heard of heating the shoe with an iron, but it seems difficult to avoid lasting damage, so I’ll probably avoid it. Thanks, Steve, for another great video!

  • @thesharpercoder
    @thesharpercoder Před 2 lety +1

    QUESTION: Can shoe trees have an impact on how leather footwear ages and develops a patina?
    I have a couple of pairs of boots made from natural, pull-up leather. They have all been developing the same curious patina.
    They are all beginning to resemble saddle shoes. The upper on the toe area and heal counter are still the original color. But, the leather part of the upper around the lace hardware and my ankle is darkening nicely.
    If I press on this upper leather from the inside, the leather lightens in color to a tone that resembles the toe area.
    I have begun to wonder if the pressure from the shoe trees is squeezing out the oil, which is slowing and retarding the leather from developing a patina.

      @thesharpercoder Před 2 lety

    I for one love the look of the rolls and creases in boots, because that's where the patina usually starts to happen. The only time creases look terrible, is with patent leather like you find in a lot of Doc Martens and kidskin leather that the Stacy Adams Madison cap toes are made with. Ya can't really moisturize the leather because of the coatings they use, so they eventually end up just cracking at all the creases.

    • @brookeggleston9314
      @brookeggleston9314 Před 2 lety +1

    Out of all the things in the world, this is THE MOST BAFFLING. I love every single crease, fold and sign of wear. The patina and look of a well worn friend is something I covet. I cannot be the only one. Are you the same sort of people that buy cars and don't drive them? Buy a steak to look at it in the fridge and not grill it?
