    I use Saphir Oiled Leather Cream on my Chromexcel boots (the one in the expensive little glass jar). I'm not sure if it's different from or any better than their greasy leather cream in the plastic bottle, but it's more expensive, so I bought it, lol. I treat it like skin lotion and go panel by panel and rub it until it soaks in. Then I let it sit for an hour or so before brushing. The result is super nice.

    Saphir's greasy leather cream all the way for Chromexcel! I used Venetian Shoe Cream on my first pair of Chromexcel boots -- perhaps too often -- and in the end (~2 years,) found it to contain just too much wax for my taste. Too much shine. The solvent smell was also off-putting. I've since used Saphir's cream on my latest pair of the past 3+ years and love it. It's comparatively expensive per fluid ounce, but one bottle will last for years and years. Plus it smells great! Almost edible, like cherries & vanilla!

    Love that you guys did a video together! Quick question: so I do what you guys did with my Thursday Captains (brown) but the boots end up feeling almost “sticky”ish after I apply Venetian Leather Balm...is that different from Venetian Shoe Cream? Did I mess up?

    • @bravobear1844
      @bravobear1844 Před 3 lety

      I have Thursday’s in brown and have used Venetian cream and have gotten that sticky feeling also. What I have done is I rarely condition them (mine don’t even need a lot) after a few brushes they r pretty shiny. But if I want a lot of shine I just use one thin coat of hard wax polish for like dress shoes. I’m also meaning to try mink oil as its very thin and conditions the leather but dries off real quick. The main thing I found is to let whatever polish/condition to really dry, then brush. Sometimes takes days for me.

      Parkhurst's Delaware boot. Not sure if they still sell it and they're out of stock for just about everything but: www.parkhurstbrand.com

      They look like Wolverine 1000 mile boots. The boot laces are a dead giveaway.

    I’d be inclined to use a protector in addition to the conditioner. I suspect Saphir’s Grease would be a good option for ChromExel. You could also use a shoe cream to cover the scuffs more effectively before the protector. Saphir do a handy colour chart that has holes punched through the swatches so you can more closely choose the correct product for your leather.

      Yes a protector is an optional third step. This video was already too long, but a polish an be a good step for extra weatherproofing. Silicon sprays etc I'm not such a fan of, but that's just me.

    What is the advice for over oiled chromexel ?

      I bought a pair of Chromexel boots off eBay recently. The previous owner said he gave them a coating of Mink Oil before sending them off.
      Mink Oil - really??!!
      I hope the mink oil didn’t screw the leather off!
      Using mink oil on Chromexel is like putting A-1 Steak Sauce on Filet mignon!

    Anything specific to know about black CLX as the black is just a very thin finish on top versus the brown or natural ones. Is the care still the same?

    Lather, Weston. Lather is the word that is lost in your head somewhere.
