This case resonated with me hard. My abuser got arrested twice for choking me and assaulting me and all the Connecticut justice system did was give him a slap on the wrist of 1 year probation, restraining order that they refused to renew, and 1 year of anger management classes. Despite the fact that he fully confessed to abusing other women since he was 17 and also straight up lied in court about his behavior at the workplace, he paid bail twice and the justice system didn't do ANYTHING else to stop him from harassing me at the workplace and the workplace of course favored him and didn't do anything to stop the harassment at work, even though it was all on their cameras. I hate that abusers get treated like THEY are the victims and the victims get treated like they are the criminal 😡😡
Over 3 years later today, I have been married to the most gentle, patient, loving, supportive, kind hearted, loyal husband I could ever ask for and does everything in his power to make sure I am safe for the last 3 years. Life had blessed me with my husband 🙏🏼💜

What I find puzzling (although probably _no one else_ here in the comments will) is why her father was apparently okay with them shacking up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ He thought Diana was "happy".
If you read the frame of the police report (and not just the narrative), it states that Diana gave the same explanation ("rough sex") to the police as the reason for the disturbance to the neighbor(s).... Was it the truth, or not? Or if it wasn't, maybe it still played a role in the past; therefore seemed feasible enough at the time.
Anyone can rationalize, "well, she was a 26 year-old adult and can make her own decisions," blah-blah... But they'd be correct, from a _legal_ standpoint only--not a relational one. But a father who is tuned in to his children and paying attention to what is going on, they're going to have a 'check' in their spirit about all that. Even if they're being hypocritical about it... I guess society's conscience has just gone dead. 😞

This kind of person doesn't show you who they are right away (unless you are very aware of the red flags and listen to your gut instincts).
They are charming at first. And they often do a thing called "lovebombing" early on, where they try to overwhelm you with positive and romantic attention.
The emotional abuse often comes only slowly and later, over the course of weeks or months. It's so important to know the red flags of an abusive person.
Usually, it is control and emotionally abusive behavior that comes first, well before threats or physical abuse.
If someone reading this sees their own situation in this, get help right away.
      Call a hotline like RAINN.
Leave as soon as you safely can,
And whether you leave or can't leave right away, or just feel confused about whether this is abuse,
seek out a Therapist who focuses on abuse, and DO NOT tell your abusive partner or anyone who might remotely tell him or someone who could tell him.

Like her, I was only with him 6 months. I had to fight to survive. It is not easy to break free from someone like this. I am lucky I didn't get taken out then. I think he was a narcissist. But I never heard the term before. I was young in my early 20s, but I did a lot of research about it & read a book called The Sociopath next door. If anyone has a daughter tell them to read that book.
Oh he became abusive at the end, of course I tried hitting back, but I let it happened maybe 3 times & had to leave because I didn't have respect for him, hated him, & couldn't have sex with him. My body would literally tense up. After we broke up, he would tell those bug lies that he was a music producer & knew fanous people. 🤣🤣🤣

People who have NPD often live in a seemingly alternate delusional reality of themselves, where they have such an inherent low self-esteem that the only way for them to feel good about themself is to control, manipulate, demean, and verbally and physically attack someone else who is weaker and less likely to put up a fight. Often, other people associated with the narcissist are afraid to speak up or hold the narcissist accountable for his actions. Two prime examples of narcissist are Donald Trump and George Santos.
In Donald Trump's case, he is the personification and epitome of a sociopath with nearly every category of narcissism; malignant, grandiose, and vulnerable, etc.
In George Santo's case, he is also a sociopath and narcissist, yet we don't see the extremes quite like we do with Trump.
Neither individual takes responsibility or blame for anything, yet they are often quick to take credit for anything. This is a classic display of narcissism.
