- Okay I got it running and (sort of) driving. Now it's time to make it ACTUALLY drivable! The previous owner left this thing rot and added some TERRIBLE modifications to it. Can I fix it all or should it be scrapped? Huge upgrades for the V8 M3 that sat around for YEARS!

I don't know how people let their car get that bad in the first place. Good work on reviving the M3.
Some people have no buisness owning an M car. A lot of the time they stretch out their finances too far, and when it's time for maintenance they put it off. Just because you can make the car payment, does not mean you can afford it.
This car was just abandoned and not maintained, if you keep the maintenance intervals steady then you shoudn't have any issues
I genuinely don't understand how people let their cars get to this point. I'm sure it sat for awhile, but still. Anyways, always therapeutic to watch an M3 be revived. I don't know how far you plan to take this car but I'll continue to watch each episode.
Also.. If you drained your master cylinder, you should use ISTA to bleed your ABS pump. It runs a program to cycle it. You know, BMW stuff.
what is ISTA sir i need to do a masterr drain soon.
@@e92oreo68 BMW software for PC. Runs full diagnostics and a bunch of other useful things. Harder to get these days without paying but it's out there.
@@e92oreo68BMW software for PC. Does full diagnostics, service instructions, etc. There's free versions floating around but they're harder to find now.
I understand why that's happen. (I'm from europe) So m3 cost 38k + € . I have 45k . I can afford it yayy! Then maintenance comes ,tires, oil and they go : ohhh 💩💩 that's expensive stuff . Let's save as much money we can on oil , maintenance exc ..
+ Flat out when the car is still cold and here you have the recepy for disaster
Then they go on the internet crying how bmw is bad and so on.
INPA also works on the E9x chassis.
Man that chalk grey is pretty darn sweet looking.
Thanks, I love it! Lots of people don't though haha.
Dude , you have ice in your veins and nads that are solid brass taking on these builds. You never show fear when you run into problems. You always seem to keep a great attitude. Love the vids and look forward to more.
Cringe
Hey Matt, those wires that you were asking about are for the tpms receiver, I had the same issue. The module is bolted onto the inner fender liner and that wire plugs into it, hope this helps. I also have a part # for the module
Gotta give you mad props for doing everything in your own garage. I own an e46 m3 but I have a local mom and pop shop doing my work. Cheers to a healthy m3 buddy!
Just bought an 01 E46 M3 any tips aside from the big three
Agreed about the different size bleed nipples, it's bloody annoying! It's not just BMW who do that though, many other manufacturers do that too!
Matt, I am really enjoying this series and the journey…I must give you “mad” props on the editing!!! You kill it! Kudos 🙏🏾. You spend hours on the car and perhaps twice as long to make the content so incredibly entertaining 😊👍🏾. You have the right attitude about this project! You win WIN!
About 5x as long editing haha. Thank you!
Bro, it is what it is. Someone beat the crap out of that BMW. looks like you got the thing out of a junk yard. Anyway now you have to fix what Someone else has ignored..! Happy fixing. BMW owner.
I just recently bought a beat up e90 m3 and I’m doing the same stuff to it as you are pretty much, cool to see it documented somewhere
Amazing video and great editing. Keep up the good work, much love from Germany!❤️
Keep up the great videos Matt!! Really crushing it with your choice of cars!
I have to give it to you man your content is good and consistent enough to where I find myself interested in bmw and porsche as potential builds for me. Great job. I love your work!
Thanks for the feedback! I put the same effort into each video and try to edit them in a non boring way.
Great work! Calm collected and proper!
If you clean off all the gunk off the coilover threads and make em look nice, wrap some electrician tape over it and it will keep the threads looking good til next time.
Man, i gotta get off my ass and install the braided steel brake lines on my 135. I've had them in a box on the shelf for 2 years now, and in that time, you've built a ton of rescue cars while all I did was injectors coils & fuel pump 😂
I appreciate this video, and it will certainly help me install my lines. 👌
Just subbed. Great work! Looking forward to next video of this M3 rebuild series👏🏽✅
Thanks for the sub! Enjoy!
Matt ! Hello from South Africa ! Love your work mate, KEEP THAT SHIT COMING !
Nice man ! I really like your videos! Keep up the good work🍻
Well instaled struts thats what i like to see :D Good job with the build.
Hi Matt!! We love the 996,997 and the M3. Keep it up
Keep it up man!!! Love to see some BMW content! Been here since the e36 build 💪🏼
Thanks, long time viewer too!
Hi Matt, I've really been enjoying your content after coming across you on my recommended. I'm loving the Porsche and E92! You got my Sub!
Glad you found me and thanks so much for the sub!
I have had my e93 m3 for 7 years now and it’s been completely trouble free. It has 130k miles now and little stuff is starting to fail. Valve cover gasket, some suspension stuff. Wish I had a friend like you in Houston that I could do work on it with 🥲 none of my friends are into cars. Nice work on the car. Calipers looking great
Extremely underrated channel.
I love your vids bro.
I know. Did you see the way he filled up his gas can at the gas station? That fakkaaaan sweeeet!
Direction on gas struts also helps stop the seals drying out too quick
Good to know, thanks!
Hey guys with quick jacks. don't trip out if your air down seals go out. No need to spend money on new cylinders. they work just fine. My quick jack set is from 2015 I've had mine bought used for 3 years fluid past the air cylinder side and does not affect the way they work at all. Also when hooking up your lines. STOP fighting the quick disconnects. just press the down button WHI
LE taking lines on or off. easy peasy.
honestly been wanting to start a new project since watching you & losing my project car to an accident. Keep up the videos super hyped to see where you take this m3
Glad you're enjoying it!!
You should look into getting the wheels refinished. Unfortunate they are CNC so you cant DIY it very well but it would be much more cost effective than picking up OEM wheels on marketplace
Cool video, you got yourself a new subscriber.
One think, 11:35 , 11:57 you didn't cover with masking tape places(the shiny part around the hole for bolts) where mountin bracket meets the surface of the steering knuckle.
Which puts you in danger of having the whole brakes becoming lose and failing while your drive.
You can't put paint in between two surfaces that are connected with a bolt becouse the paint will brake of with time becouse of vibration etc and the nuts will become lose( it's something that many people had happened to them)
Thanks for the sub! I'll look into that paint area. Thanks for the tip.
Clean straight to the point job. Well donre
Greate job! Keep working on it, amazing car, amazing work!!
dream car. nice work bro ive been loving these vids
Those are some pretty great sponsors. The guys at Turner Motorsports are awesome. Their shop isn’t far from me and when I had my bimmer I took it there a few times. Such a great crew and they let my son climb in all their race cars and gave us a tour of the place. Very successful racing outfit.
I'm really pumped to have them helping out!!
When using a battery charger, hook it up from the front. Also, the car has comfort access. you don't need to put the key in to start it, unless comfort access doesn't work
I haven't tried that yet!
You were right Matt, I was yelling cover the damn car before you start 😂 looking forward for the entire build 😊
just earned a sub. I have a Jerez black e92 myself so im subbing to def learn new things I may or may not know from you. already learnt a lot by watching this build series
Thanks for subbing! We can both learn as we go lol.
not sure about the bleeders but the brake unions are different sizes so you don't mix up left and right side brake pipes because of the ASC system. On Z3s, the unions are M10 on the left and M12 on the right
Just discovered your channel, love the videos!
For the rotor srews. I always, and I mean always give them the beans with the torch. Makes all the difference. Since i started that, i have never stripped one. great video tho ++
I didn't have my torch yet lol. But yes next time.
Great work per usual Matt!
Thanks!
Interesting video, keep ‘em coming. Question though; did you thoroughly clean the threads of the wheelhubs before installing the studs? Did you furthermore put loctite on them and did you torque them to spec? I have a video on my channel how to properly install wheel studs if you’re interested. Anyway, look forward to the next one!
I'm here for this build.
Enjoy the video. Good editing. It isa beautiful car.
Good videos as always😊 bit worrid about all the overspray😅 but the car need some tlc anyhow😊
In reference to the spacers being stuck: Aluminum on steel with salt and H20= galvanic corrosion.
Be careful with the turner exhaust. Multiple people have reported rattling/quality control issues on the forums.
Sick how you can do this stuff. I love cars but I can’t fix much if it requires more than a multi tool. My brother is a mechanical engineer . Has done all sorts of crazy stuff with cars . He once bought 2 Subarus and made a Impreza rs . Took my broken e28 5 series and put a v8 in it. Meanwhile I barely can put together IKEA furniture . Awesome video it was my first one . I will tune in to see how this progresses! Good luck.
Awesome, can’t wait to see this one finished
Thanks. I can't wait either!
Nice work 💛
Excelent job 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much!!
Just a heads up, Meyle autoparts are complete junk and a total waste of money. You want Mahle , they are way better quality and you won't be sorry down the road about it.
Lucky he just bought the cabin filters, but yes Meyle is crap quality.
@@Exillin I have had Meyle front bearing for 30tkm and recently just upgraded parts, it seem for like new atleast still. But yeah, I have heard the story. It's bit of where they buy the parts I guess. But some parts seem decent.
Matt, did you mount the rotors correct L+R? they are directional (The brakes on the car and the ones going on are aftermarket all steel) original are 2 piece steel and aluminium and are semi floating. Next time undo the clip for the brakeline before undoing them, that prevents spinning and snapping
Yup! I followed their packaging.
It’s amazing what have been accomplishing in such a small garage.
Great work Matt. Keep them coming 😉👍🏼
Btw… The wheels on your trucks look dumb. The equivalent of clown shoes 😂
Thank you! AND NO TRUCK WHEEL COMMENTS ALLOWED!!!! lol
Man I know I said I didn’t like the Terra Cotta interior but it has grown on me. I think the paint job did it for me. Nice Porsche !
I love it!!
Do a couple drops of acetone on the plastic of that tripod and it will fuse it back together.
JB weld is drying now lol
Sounds awesome 👌
I know you can bring this baby back to life❤
I suggest getting a carbon plenum to make some great induction noises from that s65, nicest one I’ve seen is made by eventuri.
The paint also looks dead. Almost like it had been resprayed before. Good job on getting this beautiful car back on the road.
on a bmw you should jump the car from the front, because of the battery managment system, dont ask me why i just read it quite a few times
4:50 I have thise Akenobo pads on my Audi. They are excellent for having zero brake dust! However, from my experience, they aren't really for performance cars. They do have a performance brake pad set, but it looks like they didn't give you those. Not sure.
They don't have the initial bite I like, and they have made the brake pedal feel really soft.
I haven't tried these out before. Also not planning on racing this car, though.
@@matt13ross they're good for normal use. ZERO brake dust 👌
Just hit me up if you don't end up keeping that car 😎
The Tpms light might be on because the sensors don’t work they are on the valve stem ,use a tpms scanner to see which ones are out
Great job, but most wheel bearings require a torque wrench set to the manufactures specifications for bolt tightness.
Technically everything is supposed to be torqued. But most techs don't.
@matt13ross hopefully you are at least loctite bolts. My mechanic was not going to install mine without correct torque specifications on the package. It's kind of important that your wheel doesn't fall off.
Damaged wires might be for outside temperature sensor
I am still stunned at how little suspension droop it has
Matt, I’m curious why you raised the front suspension via the top spring area? Unlike European coilovers, most Asian coilovers are adjusted via the lower perch.
Unless you did it at the bottom. You’re not supposed to adjust height from the top where the springs are at. That’s for pre-load adjustments
I did exactly that, I pushed the adjustment *screws* together to make them tight, then rotated the whole assembly. I didn't change the pre-load (maybe a fraction of a rotation).
@@matt13ross ok, awesome. Love the channel. Keep up the projects
Thanks a bunch! These coilovers are temporary too, they are pretty corroded all around.
Also... You should be sponsored by JB Weld. I bought it for the first time after watching you use it to fix all the various incidents LOL
It's super strong! Lol
Awesome channel
Thank you!
Great build. Do the wheel studs get Locktite, or just tighten to spec? I never had a car with screw in wheel studs.
they are just torque to spec. no thread locker necessary.
The rear calliper will need new seals they are guaranteed to seize. Plus you should not use grease on bmw slide bins ticket to in even brake wear.
No grease???
Nice job and yes... why do auto makers do things like different size bolts that do the same thing???
Engineering is poor for sure!
You can probably skip putting the brake disc/rotor screws in, especially if you have converted to studs - they are mostly there to stop the part falling off during assembly, save yourself a headache next time around. Looks so much better when its not slammed, not sure why someone put the cheap BC coilovers on an M3, it's an odd choice.
Def not necessary but I did it anyway lol.
MAPP gas torches put out more heat, yellow canisters for basically same price. Should probably do wheel bearings in pairs. Good progress! Use flare wrenches on the brake lines.
I need some flare wrenches.
There’s also centre brakes hoses in the rear subframe
Yea I've gotta do those yet
Order some Kroil spray, it the best stuff out there. Use it on the coil overs and the bolts will come loose
I'll have to look that up.
This car is going to thank you for all this over-overdue maintenance. My god, I feel like thanking you myself. You know why some of these killer cars end up like this? It's because alot of them are bought by schmucks who dont care about the car itself, but only by the status it gives them. Happy you could save this one.
The Porsche is looking great, so is the BMW👍
Thank you!
You didn't say. Did your TPMS light go off?
I told some guy on youtube not to put antisieze on the flange of the brake hub, just on the collar like you did, and he went kinda spaz on me.
Just the least bit can throw the rotor slightly off.
You do good work, Matt, but you should use a torque wrench on those wheel nuts.
See ya!
Oh, I almost forgot. I've seen those dust shields rusted out pretty bad. I'd clean and paint them.
No it didn't 😢 I torque..... Sometimes
This is some great gas station Gerry can filling content right here. Say what? You’re looking for some gas can filling CZcams content?? We’ll look no further feller….we gotcha right here in this here gas can filling up channel. Ahhhhh hell yeah. That’s was awesome. I tell you, all day I was thinking about getting home and watching a video of some guy filling up a gas can and driving it back home and putting in his car guy car for his car guy video. For my money, car guy videos don’t get any better than this car guy video right here.
Fantastique, qu’est-ce que tu fais j’aurais aimé avoir un Garage comme toi force à toi génial ce que tu fais🎩🎩🎩🇵🇹
htf do you not open the garage door when spray painting !?
Is there a new exhaust in the plans for the 997? I don’t know much about Porsche but I’ve never really heard one that sounded good.
Sure is! It's been hidden in plain sight lol
Unsubscribed from LSC and subscribed here! Like the good old times. Thanks for the content
Unsubbed from legit???
BMW exhaust tone sounds good to me but I don’t know exactly how loud it was in person and ultimately it’s your ears that has to listen to it.
Keep an eye on those wheel studs. Ecs brand have been known to back off or snap
I've have them in my E36 for year without issue.
@matt13ross you've drove that car about a mile dude. Trust your subscribers, stud conversion from ecs is known to fail. Google it my friend
The E36? I've had ECS studs on it for like a decade lol.
Your voice would match" Kit Nightrider 2.0!"
Hey Matt. I just noticed you’re at 66.6k subscribers. You might want to try to get that sub count up. 👹🤘
Illminatni
Trying every day!!! Hahaha
Suspension is not adjusted by the spring on BC racing (front end) this will result in wrong preload and cause harsh ride and bumpiness
I didn't adjust the spring. I spun the whole coilovers.
@@matt13ross okay, I saw you loosen the upper lock ring so I wasn’t sure
They were pretty seized and rusty so it wasn't straight forward lol.
Can I bring my 5 speed SLK over and we revive it. Lol good video brother
Sounds cool but man, I'm too far behind with my own vehicles lol.
@@matt13ross understandable maybe i could come through and help with those be a special guest
@@dariencrawley8841take a hint bruv.
Problem is these E92 m3 drop down in price to silly cheap. So people stretched to buy one whilst cheap but had no money to look after them. Now they are quickly going up in value. I bought one myself exactly sane situation previous owner had abused it. What made it more incredibly stupid was it was the highest spec m3 I've ever seen. Only had 46k miles too. Its taken me 2 years to bring it back but its now like a brand new car and fortunately in 2 years its added about £8k in value since I bought it. Bought it for £7k spent about £13k fixing now worth about £25k and going up monthly
True words!
Matt, you need a mallet…a club hammer is too brutal for getting even old stuff off the car!
lmao lets cover our car in spray paint while we do the brakes
The car needs a paint job. No sense in protecting it.
@@matt13rossso make it look even worse 😂
1. the paint is completely ruined on the entire car
2. the car is covered in years of dirt dust and debris, the yellow paint isn't going to stick anyway.
Clapfest, but looking forward to watching you straighten things out.
Motul 660 for brake fluid
Tires are from 2016 ! On one of them DOT production date is 42nd week of 2016 !
2:30 drive over2 pieces o wood to raise the car
Easy when you know how
Nissans bleeder screws aren’t the same sizes on some cars too
I'd probably check the rod bearings before you go to far.
Will you ever do power mods on the dmax?
I've done an exhaust and tune so far.
