      @@BellaRenovare I think that "soak and dry to tighten" technique only applies to brand new cane. This piece was probably soaked when it was installed. I believe it works like a cotton T-shirt, the first time its washed and dried it shrinks and then it never shrinks again. Just guessing

    Gorgeous work....very very nice. When I was younger and I needed a change in my cab it’s....I used Cane.... OMG people just loved it. I really can not remember if I ever soaked it. At the time it was a very inexpensive fix that I took my old things gorgeous! Great memories.

    Well that's Incredible. I wouldn't pass over a piece now that has came in it. This is one of my favorites that you have made over. Love the color and the paint must be some great paint. Job well done.
    I wish you had saw horses or something to elevate your furniture piece so you can save your back.

      Thanks so much! We do have saw horses and serval work benches but 99% of the time I'm a one woman show, so getting furniture up and down would do way more damage to my back than sitting on the floor where I'm comfortable.

    Using a plastic grocery bag is better especially if you didn’t finish for some reason and you want to go back to it later. Just tie a tight knot with the handles and it all stays nice and fresh . I also use a zip lock bags to keep my brush from drying out or a grocery bag.

    Hi, Katie.
    Just had to fit watching this in before I go to work. Loved loved loved what you did with this.
    Perhaps this might be an idea for the future....
    It would be to have added a small 1/4 round dowel mitred on the inside to finish the edges of the cane so it doesn’t get snagged on the contents should anything get pushed up against it from the inside. It would also add a bit of strength.
    Perhaps even the original board backing cut down into a thin strip by your husband as I remember your dislike of using the saw..
    You inspire us all and we love what you do.

      I did finish the inside edged with a strip of trim but didn’t include it in the video because my phone died and I couldn’t record it. I also didn’t include the re-lining of the drawer 😉 Thanks for taking the time to watch today.

    I just redid a tv stand from the 80's also. It had glass doors and I ordered new cane to replace it. Gel stained mine black. Love how yours turned out! want to try that new paint on a kitchen table I'm going to work on! Thank you for great videos. Sure wish I could spray the paint on. You make it look so easy!

    Gorgeous piece of furniture to start with. I love that cane texture. And you are a Queen paint gun sprayer. That is very difficult to do. PS, when we remodeled our kitchen we did bamboo veneer on all doors/drawers. On the pantry upper cabinet doors we put in cane. Painted it bronze dark brown to go with the bronze hardware and appliances.
