- This furniture flip is a BOGO! When I picked up this MCM dining hutch a few weeks ago I knew I was going to split it up and create two distinct, modern, Scandinavian-Boho designs. You can see what I did with the base of this piece in this video, • FACEBOOK FLIP | Furnit... And today I’ll turn the top hutch into its own stand alone unit with some Chalk Paint from Michael’s.

When you first put on those other legs, I was shaking my head no no no! You were so right to go get those square ones. I had no idea that paint would work so well on furniture. The end result is perfect.

Once again, thank you for pointing out that you don't harm real wood. I get that people think you are being cute, but I just watched someone paint 873 coats onto a perfect condition cherry wood dovetailed piece and then put both stencils AND transfers on it. When it was finished it could easily have been a pine piece from Ikea underneath. Nobody will ever know to pull all that paint off in the future. And what's even MORE heartbreaking is to know hundreds of watchers are now "inspired" to do the same thing. But with zero experience. Sigh.
So thank you for doing this in a way that is well informed, skilled and educational for those watching BEYOND just putting on the paint properly. Otherwise for those of us who treasure beautifully made wood antiques, soon there may be none left...

A few tips from one sprayer to another... PLEASE strain your paint. Your gun with thank you for it. Also watch you pressure your spraying at as you got a lot of overspray when you did your top coat and make sure you mix it well when doing a "DIY" tint to prevent off shading.

Thanks so much for watching. I’ve been spraying for 4 years and never found straining to be necessary for my set up. I know it’s the “proper” way to do it but I’ve never had an issue. I also keep my pressure high while I’m spraying topcoats because, while it does produce more overspray, my coats lay down nicer and smoother that way.
Hu la la! The instinct to change those legs was spot on. Not applying the wallpaper on the inside complemented the simplicity of the piece, very intemporal and beautiful makeover
A subtle pattern would have been o.k. to use IMHO.
Great idea to separate them. And the square legs were the best choice. I am still wanting to add the wallpaper in the back, but I usually do that with foam core cut to fit, so that I can remove it with out damaging the finish!
I absolutely love the outcome of this. I have an upright China cabinet that I have often thought of painting black. I don’t have your talents, but I think it would be gorgeous.

Get an old hand mixer whip from the thrift store and use in your drill to mix your paint. Mixes your thinned paint much better for spraying! Very nice upcycle!

Very inspirational! I have an oak cabinet from my grandma and I would love to paint it dark and add legs.
Excellent Katie. Fabulous bead with caulking. I always feel glumsy with the gun. Lol. When you cut the tube, does it matter if cut is straight or angled. Also I found using a metal skewer inserted into tube of caulking (silicon not glue), that it helped from getting clogged. Plus I had the option to use my finger or damp cloth to smooth the bead. So again, great beading on the glue caulking. Brava sunshine. 🌞💜🇨🇦 P. S. Gorgeous cabinet.

very cool. I just fabricated a similar shaped cabinet for dining room storage! I did have to anchor mine to the wall tho which was a first for me but it is great to have done especially with cats in the house.
Nicely done Katie. You might consider putting two more legs in the middle. Remember, that used to be the top of a hutch which was supported by a full bottom to the hutch.
Thank you for your concern but it was quite sturdy on the 4 legs that I added. Otherwise I would have adapted my design.
I liked them together as one set, when I saw the first set of legs I was like that's not working out, BUT with your new choices it looks great both alone. Hopefully they both sold fast!
