  • Anthony Davis dodged questions of being frustrated with his situation after the New Orleans Pelicans' loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Rachel Nichols, Chauncey Billups and Amin Elhassan of The Jump question if Davis has reached a breaking point as the losses pile up. Billups also explains how he, then a member of the Detroit Pistons, and Tyronn Lue convinced Kevin Garnett to leave the Minnesota Timberwolves, which ultimately led to him joining the Boston Celtics alongside Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. The team eventually won the 2008 NBA Finals.

    Seven seasons for any franchise is enough time to gauge whether it is time or stay or leave. AD is one of the most professional dudes in the whole league. So loyal, doesn’t get the respect he deserves. It’s gotta be frustrating not being able to will the team by yourself to the next level, how LeBron for example manages to do it. I can only guess that maybe if he was a point forward like Giannis or LJ he’d have more success. Couple of years back watched a bit of Pelicans, their core has stayed the same since. Back then he’d score 30 points and would still feel like he was underutilized out there on the offense, as most big men out there. Guards dominating the ball, shooting contested shots while he’s turned into this hustle guy. Haven’t seen them play this year, but this dude even back then left a really good impression. No ego what so ever, works his behind off and never complains. LeBron would love to have a guy like that on his team for sure. Same goes for Kawhi. Both dudes just want to win, and leave everything out there on the floor. LJ would just have be the distributor and a cheerleader for these guys, a motivator. If he got them both next year. They could possibly go for a 3 peat in LA, they’d be that talented on both ends of the court. Not saying that’ll happen, but if it did I think they’d be favorites to win the whole thing.

    Imagine. All SAS wanted for Kawhi was Ingram and Hart or Wagner.
    All IND wanted for pg was Oladipo and Sabonis before they were any good. At the time an ingram or the 2nd round pick (zo) would of landed them PG.
    Now the lakers chances of getting Kawhi and any other star in free agency is eh. + if they want AD you’re gonna have to give up every young asset you have.

    • @rellykz2175
      @rellykz2175 Před 5 lety

      Dan 3 But you can't blame them for their decision at the time. In hindsight it's easy to say it wasn't smart for them to keep those guys because we knew the out come. What we didn't know was how good would Ingram become, how he'd play next to Lebron, how Zo would develop. The Spurs absolutely didn't want to trade with any team in their conference, so the Lakers were out of luck. Trading for PG was an extremely risky decision, at the time they hadn't secured a Lebron or let alone any star. PG made his mind and decided to stay in OKC, after publicly stating he would love to be a Laker yet he didn't even meet with them. AD is a big asking price because unlike Pg, Davis is a legit superstar. Paul George was always coasting along the lines of being a star and not taking the next step like he has this season. AD is so talented he can shift the balance of the NBA with a trade, he's like the Lebron, KD, etc where any team with them will improve.

DeMarcus Cousins was the best center in the league for about four years and no one cared because he played for the Kings. Then the first year he was going to go to the playoffs he has a season-ending injury and gets no respect for his greatness. Kevin Garnett is another who really in his first 10 years and through match Tim Duncan as far as stats and play went. Except with multiple coaches every season. Isn't that what happens to first round picks?! They get drafted to crappy teams, hoping that that one great player can turn the team around. More likely than not. That crappy team doesn't have the money to attract primetime players so the top pick drafted player spends years hustling for a losing team and then maybe gets traded to a competitive team. It happened to LeBron, KG, Carmelo, Kemba, etc. That's the way it goes.

    they should look to trade E'Twaun Moore for Wayne Ellington- gives them someone who really knows how to play off-ball.. maybe the best in the league at it.. Sign maybe someone like Corey Brewer or Pat McCaw for a wing defender n depth at the 3

    If Davis wants to win then he needs to sign with the Bucks. Giannis and AD would be unstoppable together.

    He has more than enough offensively. NOP is 4th in ORTG. Their problem is defense (26th). Davis won his NCAA championship with defense. He was basically college-version Ben Wallace that year, and made that team an all-time great defense himself. That's what he needs to do to win in the NBA - and at his position he has ability to make them an elite defense himself like he did in college, by being a dominant rim protector. I know he avg a lot of blocks, but he allows 60% at the rim. While guys like Whiteside/Ibaka only only 49-50%. He needs to focus more on being an elite rim protector than being a scorer - and he has the talent to do it.. Instead of being a 29/12 guy with avg defense, be a 20/15 guy with elite rim protection. Do that and NOP will be one of best teams in the league. Same thing KG had to do in order to win in BOS.

    The media needs to quit selling this false narrative that Anthony Davis doesn’t have any help. Over the last 2-3 seasons, he’s had plenty of help.
    Last year Rondo and Jrue Holiday showed their worth when they completely stifled the Blazers back court. Jrue made Damian Lillard look unworthy of the All-NBA first team nod.
    This offseason I knew the Lakers were going to let Randle walk and was a bit sad because he had been the best young player on our team. Dude is looking like a beast this season and is looking like a lock for 6th man of the year. Jrue Holiday is also continuing his great play from last year except now he doesn’t have to split control of the offense with Rondo (which wasn’t a bad thing btw). Understand they don’t have a super strong bench (and they are missing Mirotic), but Randle is averaging 20pts and 10rebs off the bench. How many teams can boast about having a player come off the bench and provide that type of energy and production? And the Pelicans beat the Timberwolves without AD the other night (yes they are the Timberwolves, but it further proves that the team has enough talent).
    AD just isn’t a winner or at least a guy that can lead a franchise. He’s a second option. I’ve seen all I needed to see. He’s super talented. He has a skill set that could really allow people to compare him to other greats. However, there’s more to the game than just stats. Winning matters (it’s what separates good players from great players) and Anthony Davis isn’t a winner. Giannis is making things work with a comparable cast. The Rockets were struggling to start the season, but Harden has put the Rockets on his back and is one of the hottest teams in the league right now (has yet to prove this in the postseason when it really matters though). Jokic has the Nuggets looking like real contenders and the Pelicans have better talent on their roster. How many passes and excuses is he allowed?
    At some point, the media has to start pointing the finger at AD 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Endless you have a lucky break, a good organization is primed to win a championship. If you have a dysfunctional management in the NBA it won’t work, even if it’s a big market. Anthony Davis is in a poorly managed organization, which is the reason for Demarcus leaving. Think about all the previous champions, Cleveland was a lucky break. But the Warriors, Mavericks, Heat, Lakers, Celtics and Spurs all had good team management. They still do.
