Wow! I can’t believe this video is almost 100,000 views. I hope y’all are loving this recipe ❤
I learned some tips from this video but have to comment. Water simmers at 100C and doesn't get any hotter for being 'on high heat'. You can save energy by putting a lid on the pan. Also, salt shouldn't be added to beans until they've completed cooking because it toughens them and lengthens the cooking time.
You know what you said about the temperature for cooking the beans, I got it now and you are absolutely correct!
Love this 😊
Great one right here... I love it.

I'm nigerian and I'm here wishing I could taste this or find the leaves to try it out. Loving your channel by the way.
Awwww thank you so much Ify. I’m so happy to have you here. I really hope you find the leaves. It’s also called sorghum leaves.
You can use bicarbonate soda when cooking the beans instead of the leaves.I tried this when I was in France and didn't have the leaves....all the best
Absolutely! I have a waakye recipe on my channel without leaves. Thank you for sharing.
The leave is everywhere in Nigeria. Check those women selling herbal medicines, Yoruba local medicines. Just show them the picture.

Good one. Pls can one use any type of beans like white or the common red beans we have in Nigeria.?
I usually reach for the red beans but you can also use the white beans. The cooking time will be different so keep an eye on it! Enjoy!

This is one of my favourite Ghanaian recipes hope you hit my notification bell on too see u around sissy
Sure Sis. See you around💕
💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 the last time I made waakye it was too dark. Because I left the leaves in for too long. I will try your recipe too.
I hope my recipe helps. Let me know how it goes 😊
Imit is the darkness that it is the beauty of it
@yinka there’s levels to it. When it gets too too dark, it’s not as attractive
Just came across your channel, subscripted and will definitely try this out. Thanks 👍. Can the leaves be reused please
Thank you for joining my CZcams family💕. I have not tried reusing the leaves before. Reusing it may not give you as much color as you would want.
Tried it and it was soo perfect... please blow your own horn because you doing really great....my husband now calls me Akudede😂
Awwww 🥰🥰🥰 this comment just made my night! Thank you so much for the feedback. Means a lot to me and lol to your hubby 😂😂😂
Hahaha
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm Nigerian, but I loooooove waakye. I'm going to try cooking it this weekend.
Can the leaves be reused, or should they be discarded?
Thanks for a great video!
Thank you Blessing. I usually discard them when once I’m done cooking. Have fun cooking and I hope it turns out great!
♥️♥️
Even Apex likes this recipe
Thank you Apex 😀
This looks very delicious 😋...
Please who are those that sells the leaves?
I want to try this recipe
Thank you Eunice, it is so good. In Ghana, I buy them from the market. There’s another name for it which I do not remember. It should be in the comment section somewhere. I’ll find it for you.
@@AkuDede thank you, I'll be expecting. so i can know where to get it
It is also called Sorghum leaves or miller leaves. You should get it from the market if In Ghana or Nigeria or an African grocery store. I really hope you find it with the names I just gave you. Cheers
@@AkuDede I'm do happy to see your response..
I'll find it definitely
Thanks ma'am
@@doyineunice my pleasure ❤️
❤ Thanks .. Does it matter how much water do I use to cook the beans? How much more water is added to cook the rice properly
It doesn’t matter how much water you use to cook the beans, nonetheless, you have to ensure that there’s enough coverage for the rice when added.
Can I use the same leaves the next time?
You can try it but I do not.
💃🏼 💃🏼 💃🏼 💃🏼 💃🏼 💃🏼
🥰🥰🥰
nice recipe, but what kind of leaves are theses waakye leaves?
Thank you! Those are waakye leaves also known as sorghum leaves.
💯👍👍👍
😘😘😘
Are these called red beans or should I look for a specific name? This looks amazing!
They are small red beans. If you’re in the USA, check Goya small red beans. I hope you find some and enjoy cooking.
@@AkuDede thank you so much!
@@JacindaH you’re welcome.

💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤❤❤
Can you re use the leaves again?
I never do and I do not recommend.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
😍😍😍
Please what is the name of leaves you used?
Sorghum leaves
👍
Can I add vegetables like how they add to the jollof
Enjoy it anyhow you want. Cheers!
@@AkuDede are you sure is gonna be okay I wasn't talking about salad but I was saying if I can add whiles cooking ,just asking because I just started learning how to cook ,I'm just 16, my parents are always so busy with work and I'm always all alone in the house reading comics and watching animations 😢😭😧 sorry if I'm annoying you, just wanna learn how to cook since no one is around to tutor me with that
@@AnnettaAdomako aww dear it’s not a problem at all. Okay, I get you now. When it comes to a special dish like waakye, I’d rather you cook it on its own and add any sides that you wish to add to it. That way, you can make choices. Adding vegetables to Jollof rice gives it a more fresh flavor and makes it aromatic and it’s an old Ghanaian way of cooking Jollof rice. I still do it every now and then because it’s good. What it comes to waakye, it’s good by itself.
@@AkuDede Gracias senorita 😊
@@AnnettaAdomako no mencionar
😋😛🤔
Plz hw many minutes should the leaves be cooked
It depends on the level of infusion you want, how much colour the leaves contain (sometimes, some contain lots of colour, so it comes out pretty quickly, others do not so they take about 5 minutes or so) and the quantity of leaves you are cooking with (if you are using quite a number, it could take about 3 minutes or so). The trick is to check for when the colour changes to what I have in the video. I hope you enjoy cooking it 💕
Ma please is this beans different from the regular ones they sell in the market
No dear, it is called red beans.
What is d name of d leave if I want to buy
Waakye leaves or sorghum leaves

AkuDede are you an Ada, Krobo, or Ga?
Krobo and Ga!
@@AkuDede Thanks the reason why I asked you this is that I am Adan and my sister name is Dede the first born and we have names like Aku and the rest in Ada.But nevertheless we are all the same people.
Please do you boil your bean with barking soda?
No, I do not. They cook within an hour. These are red beans and they exude their own red color. You may want to use baking soda when cooking with black eyed peas so that it can draw some color from the beans.
