- Without saying too much, let me say this very simple waakye recipe will make feel like you're eating your favorite roadside waakye. Please look out for the stew recipe.
Ingredients:
2 cups rice
1 lb (2 cups) black eyed peas
3-4 full length sorghum leaves aka waakye leaves or about 7 cut ones
1 teaspoon baking soda /bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon salt or to your taste.
7 cups water - Jak na to + styl
I'm Nigerian but I must say that waakye with all the sides; (spaghetti, garri, leaves, plantain, and waakye stew with boiled eggs, and shitto) is hands down my favourite Ghanaian street food. The deliciousness is out of this world. This recipe is 👌👌👌.
Yes my sister. It isn't the same without a bit of everything. Thanks for stopping by. I hope to keep you❤❤
Is that leave not used in making drinks?
I’m American and I agree 100 percent!!
@@njidekachinasa6645 yes 👍 and it's very good for medicinel purposes you can boil it with ginger and honey

My favorite Ghanaian dish

I tried this recipe in addition to the stew and it turned out perfectly! It was my first time making waakye and my husband enjoyed it so much. The baking soda trick with the stew really works, I can’t believe I’ve never known of it till I heard you mention it in one of the videos. You’re really changing lives here 😂. Thank you soo much sis. God bless you. Wish I could send you a picture for you to see.
Love the video and the cooking tips. Your blue pot is very pretty, what brand is it or where did you buy it?

👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️Question : how long do you soak the beans before cooking them?
A minute into the video and I'm sold. New subscriber
And I am very honored to read this. Akwwaba dear❤
@@KwankyewaasKitchen The pleasure is mine 🙏
I’m trying this tomorrow, will let you know how it goes. Which shrimp powder did you use, the salted or not salted one?

I love you sis. Please tell me how you are able to get the waakye color like that 🙏🏽
Sweet Jesus now I am homesick lol
Please where's ur house??? I'm hungry and coming for my share asap 🤗. Thanks for sharing sis. NYAME Nhyira wo 😘
The type of pot you cook the waakye in makes a big difference. Daadesan pot is the best. Again soak the leaves for at least 6 hours with half the quantity of baking soda. Do not not soak the beans, it loses taste. Watching you I am salivating. Well done.
how long did you soak the beans for ? thanks in advance
I made this Waakye this afternoon. It was delicious. My mum was shocked paaa. She asked whether I bought it in town 😂😂😂. Thank you so much for sharing your skills with us. I'm so happy to have found your chanel. God bless you abundantly. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾. Love from London, UK!
I love making this, I will try your version. Looks delicious. ❤
Please do❤❤
Yum! 💋
😋💕👌
😊👌👍
Can you use baking powder, ?
What is the effect?
I hope it not dangerous?
What sort of rice did you use? Thank you
Wooooh thank you now I can finely make this for my family instead of getting my mum to do it
Yes Vera! You are well equipped now! Mummy will be proud😎❤
My darlings do use a clean tea towel or cotton napkin to cover the pot rather than tin foil...its healthier but the waakye looks so delicious, will definitely try it...well done👍😍😘😘
Thanks for that. I will bear that in mind for next time🙏🏾❤
Hi sis can you do tutorial on the waakye salad
It came out great. Waakye stew pls
Go you! Stew coming up in a few💕
Aiii madam come for a chill malt😂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I passed my waakye test
sweet lady what pots do you use?
Sister 👍👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹
I really love waakye. do the leaves add any flavour or is it just for colour. what would be a substitute for the leaves if i cant find them?
Manka Kariuki the leaves gives flavour but u can use backing soda if you can’t get them.
It give it that colour to.
Hi where do you buy your laddles?
Can you please share your potatoes casserole link please. Saw it on instagram but not on CZcams
Good work sandra......I tried and its. Per..thnku..please I want Ghana salad wai

How long do you soak the beans to soften it up?
Can i use regular brown beans instead of the white one? It’s hard to get the white one in the states. Thank you
Yes you can
this is a correct waakye
Do the leaves add flavor or just color? Is there a particular type of rice you use? Thanks.
Shirleen Adams any rice is fine
It add both
Got Indian girl cooking waakye. Thank You 😊. My came out perfect except rice kept sticking to the pot. What kind of pot are you using here?
When people say nana sends me recipe for this that that they will get kwankyewaa link because ah i can't comean kiiii myself
I’m going to make mine 😩😩
That is the spirit dear! 🙌🙌🙌
Let me comment first before watching bcos l know dis lady can't go wrong
Aaaww. I am touched by this. Thank you so much Elorm🙏🏾❤
@@KwankyewaasKitchen u welcome sis
Love the recipe! Was just wondering what baking soda does for the food... Can it be omitted?
Baking soda shortens the cooking time of the beans. It has been known to cause an upset stomach for some. You can absolutely omit it from your cooking.
Thank you very much my dear, infact I'm very excited with your video 😘
Aaaww. Your excitement got me super excited🙌🙌🙌🙌
I tried this recipe but there’s a weird aftertaste from the baking soda. Anything I can do to remedy this? Thanks
What’s the name of that leafy thing?
Sister, so the sole purpose of sorghum leaves is to add flavour or just colour? Sorghum in our country has green leaves not this kind.
Sis mostly adds colour. These are the dried leaves. They are green when fresh.
@@KwankyewaasKitchen Oh yea I remember now. Sorghum is our staple food in Botswana.
My O My this looks beautiful, if I get this I won't eat it, it's for decoration haha. You did well
Hahaha. What I normally say is I will take a good photo and enjoy this well well. I can always look at the photo😂😂😂😂
Pls did you use all the beans?
And wat happens if you don’t have the soda too
Can I use red beans?
Yes you can
Thank you thank you. Will definitely try this. I love wanche(that's how I pronounce it lol)
"Wanche" like a T'adi person 😂😂
U can call it that too or Awaakye lol
"Some fried fish and waakye di3, wo boa kraa"!!!😃. On that note, I'm hitting the shops for the leaves cuz I've got everything else in house. I've always thought it was rather intimidating to cook this stuff but 'Imma gon' try like hell! (In my best Texan accent)😜
Who else wants soft waakye rice
Please what is the function of baking soda in the beans
It helps bring out the waakye colour more
Seriously Do you have a Restaurant? If yes and you have a Restaurant I not cook again Keep it up Sister. THANKS
Please what does the bicarbonate soda do to the food. Thanks for sharing
It dakens the colour. Without it, te waakye color will be more of bright wine
@@KwankyewaasKitchen thank you
I’m hungry now 😓
Nice video,so yummy, but my dear I hardly hear you in your videos
Thanks dear. I hope to get better with my sound. With a 4 year old and 1 year old, constantly in the background it is hard to have time to work on my voiceover.
You can cook wati
