    As you get older as a man, you began to appreciate people like Marciano, especially if you're blue collared. Mentally, a man can force himself to do many things that other guys simply won't do: lifting bulk items, loading a trailer full of heavy boxes within a set time frame, enduring frigid winters or grueling summers in the oil patch or construction fields, pushing a truck up a hill to get to a gas station, etc., etc. I remember a dude just grabbing a piece of heavy equipment from the top of a trench and picking it straight up, much to the surprise of everyone. Men have been known to pick up cars to save a loved one. Others have pushed their bodies through extreme conditions, read about the dudes trying to reach the North Pole.
    This phenomenon even extends to the white-collared jobs: guys push themselves to work 20-plus hours because their job demands it. Others force themselves to go without much sleep for several years as they work and go to college. Dudes stay up all night to care for a baby before they head off to work. It's not that other men can't do this; it's that they won't do this and your willingness to do so is what gives you the edge.
    Obviously this is extremely bad for your body and overall health, which is why it's not a winner long-term.
    Could Rock compete with the heavies who came after him? I honestly think he could with some of them. But with others - such as HEAVY hitters like Foreman, Liston, some dudes from the 90s when they took steriods with abandon - I don't think he would've done so well. Maybe he would've surprised me, however. I mean, that's what so many guys are able to do with their will in everyday life.

    Marciano broke bones, removed teeth, lifted opponents, and nearly killed a guy. He fought 10-15 opponents over 200lbs, kayoing all of them. He defeated 4 HOFers 6 times; and he defeated several top contenders.
    Ali ko Marciano???? Doubtful.

I gotta believe NOBODY in ANY ERA, gets up by the count of 10 after that right hand BOMB!! The best punch I ever saw was when Frazier's perfect left hook dropped Ali in their 1st war in the 15th Rd. .....remember, Ali got up at 3!!! I still say Muhammad Ali is The BEST EVER! He had that SPEED! 82 inch wingspan!! ( Rocky's was 67')...it will always be a debate who's #1.....so much to consider in my opinion! Ali's era was the TOUGHEST ever! The thing Rocky and all of the great old heavy Weight Pros had was class.. He always complements skill and doesn't bathmouth to make himself seem better, A true pro and a gentleman. Unlike todays sad fighters.

    100% correct i hate when people believe that the bigger someone is the harder they hit. In a sense it has some truth but not completely, i am 189 pounds i box and i hit like a truck for my size. It's all the factors that the dude above me mentioned technique over power, Tyson is a prime example he always faced people bigger than him and he always had more power because his technique was incredible.

      Well said! I too fought as a young boy from 13-16..I had SPEED! That makes POWER with the way ( technique)..you throw! My Mother said NO way to Boxing! I was 11-1 ( I fought a few cousins also and the one loss I got him back good!) 1976-79'...I wanted to fight, because I believe as one of my all time greats, Marvin Hagler once said.." the best fighters are the one's with bitter hearts!" After my parents divorce in 77' ( I was 14 and very hurt and bitter!) I was a blessed 3 sport star ( Football, Track & Baseball)..my hands were just as fast as my feet! ( I was the youngest ever at my Jr. High, in 9th grade to run a 10 flat 100 yard! Still the school record there!) I ran my best at 19 in 1982...4.31/40 yd on grass..*....10.46/100 meter and 3rd best in the state for JC's in the 200/20.66! Speed kills! I could have been a great boxer in my day! At 160 lbs. ( from 1982 say to 92')....There were some all time greats I would have had to face!! I believe in also NOT getting hit is a big part of boxing and that was my style! I'd go "toe to toe" when I had to! Ya see, I am not proud to say this but my father would beat me at least 2x a week!! ( 12 yrs old to 15!) made me tough in a fucked up way! That's why I believed NOBODY my size could hurt me!! FACT!

    Marciano got dropped by a guy who fought at 130 pounds during his professional career .Rocky weighed about 190 and stood 5 foot 11 . He was average in speed , hit very hard , decent cardio , average at best footwork . He would get killed by any top 10 light heavyweight in today's era . Its hillarious that anyone thinks he hit anywhere near as hard as Foreman , Tyson etc. He was fighting in a very weak era, WW2 prevented many of the worlds athletes before they could compete .

People are just so much bigger these days . One of the reasons I think the lighter weights are so much more competitive is most of the truly talented giants are in the NFL or NBA , but the little guys who are great athletes can't play most pro sports so the depth at 140-170 is awesome .

    @plang527 I agree , heart goes a long way , but Marciano was a slower , less accurate prototype of Tyson . He was like a Tyson of the early era. I think Marciano , with today's training , could have been a great light heavy . He was only about 5ft10.5in , so I think he would be a good fit . Guys cut 15 pounds to fight these days . Some LH's are about 200 pounds on fight night . Like to have seen him fight Bernard Hopkins .

    @consta4891 Funny you should mention that, Dundee also said the same thing in an interview.
    On another side all these arguments about who would beat who, know one will ever no for sure. There are so many factors to take into consideration, its like an athlete or footballer in the 1920's compared with those of today. Training techniques, training equipment ect are very different.

    Marciano had a great and unique technique. you don’t go 49-0 with just condition heart and hitting hard. most of the contenders gave their all and were in superb condition. Walcott for ex hit very hard. Rocky was able to avoid getting hit. only knocked down twice. maybe thats a record? he stayed down only a few seconds. he had something no one else had. if you watch in slow motion he avoided punches and turned defense into offense. he did not stand up like 95% of fighters.

    @TheCmackAttack Of course he didn't duck Liston. He was RETIRED.
    As to Moore, he went on fighting many fights after the one against Marciano, including a fight against Paterson, and one against Ali. Moore was tough as nails!
    Marciano retired partly because of a back-injury that had troubled him for years, and only got worse. So at 49-0, rich, having reached all he dreamed of achieving, why would you have him continue? Lennox Lewis also retired in his prime. Why is that wrong?

    Doesn't matter how fkn big these clowns are today
    They ain't got no heart and the first time rocky caught them with one of those hammers these cream puffs would have crumbled
    Size ain't everything. Rock was a fkn powerhouse with incredible stamina and incredible will to win

    @willieraye Undoubtedly Rocky was one of the greats of all time. Top 3 easily if not number one. But the thing thats' hardest about rating rocky is that in each of his six greatest fights his opponent was in their 40's and not at their peak. Not trying to take anything away from him his record speaks for itself. Not to mention the fact that he was always at a disadvantage weight and reach wise. Best chin of all time no doubt. Best heart too.

    @MindofaJedi you cant use simple high school equations like Strength x speed = power, for something as complex as the human body, if power was determined by weight then nikolai valuev then hits harder than Tyson.Punching power depends reflexes, natural power, balance, body-to-hand co-ordination, leverage, follow-through, positioning, snap, timing, speed of body turn, accuracy, commitment to the punch and physicality. nothing to do with mass.

    @bigmoney749 he fought who was available,. like any other fighter does. He was the best of his time.To say he was the most overrated is unfair, he started boxing late in his life and beat the top contenders who often were much bigger than he was. Floyd Patterson had a glass jaw, so you dont know what would of happened. Holmes and Foreman were much bigger and probably did have the advantage. But for his time he was the best heavyweight with amazing stamina and was perhaps the hardest puncher

    @MindofaJedi Number one you are comparing apples and oranges,had Marciano fought in the Tyson era with the nutrition and training advantages, they would be virtually the same size,5'10" and around 218, give or take 10lbs. Tysons speed was no help against Douglas, Holyfield, or Lewis, because of his heart.If he didn't stop you in 4 rounds, he faded. Same went for Foreman in his first career and when Foreman fought Frazier his size was the difference. In Marciano era, very few were more than 200lb

  • @plang527
    @plang527 Před 13 lety

    @holidayrap Tyson is still my favorite modern Heavyweight...but have Rock fight Tyson, circa 1985 with all the training and nutrition advantages....I gotta call it a toss up, with a slight favor to the Rock on heart alone! They would have been just about the same size, 5'10" and 218...only mitigating difference is Rock would NEVER quit!!

  • @DeDona1
    @DeDona1 Před 12 lety

    @Mr23Zoeboy Thats fair. I say Joe Louis 1, Ali 2, Marciano 3, Foreman 4, Holyfield 5, Frazier 6, Dempsey 7, Tunney 8, Lennox Lewis 9, Mike Tyson 10. I truly believe Tyson could have been the best.
