  • This video is a bio on arguably the greatest heavyweight champion of all time ROCKY MARCIANO (born Rocco Francis Marchegiano) "THE BROCKTON BLOCKBUSTER" *Sep 1, 1923 - Aug 31, 1969*. He never lost a professional fight with a record of 49-0. This video is courtesy of ESPN and SportsCentury. I videotaped this show when it aired on the ESPN Classic Sports channel and now I recorded it off my TV. The quality is not too bad so enjoy. If you like boxing feel free to subscribe because I have a whole bunch of recorded footage and archives of other fights and other special boxing shows I will be adding.

Marciano was a relentless , persistent brawler of a fighter, always the aggressor , he simply threw everything he had , for every second of every round at his opponent, he just out fought and outlasted everyone he stepped into the ring with. The unbeaten champ was a brutal hardhittng and tough fighter, and did every he could to win,...and did, ....a great fighter,.but.his will to win ....was even Greater

They asked Ali, which fighter would've been your hardest opponent, Ali said Rocky marciano ,he was better than Joe Frazer and look how well Joe fought against me, then Ali said it could've went either way, in there computer fight ,Ali said Rocky had hurt his forearms, and midsection from his punishing power, if any boxer could've beaten Ali it was Rocky by a knock out,and if any boxer could've beaten Rocky it was Ali by unanimous decision. Ali had great respect for Rocky,he was a pallbearer at Rocky funeral, it was said that Ali cryed. One of a few times he ever did in public.

I wish the Rocky Marciano haters could hear that. Many boxing greats such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson and others gave Marciano his due. The late great Cus D'Amato who trained Mike Tyson, Floyd Patterson, and who advised Ali on a few fights. Cus D'Amato recognized Marciano as a great fighter.

@Anderl Blakely I keep seeing people uneducated on the matter regurgitating the same generic garbage. There is 1 reason and 1 reason only that the mob or anyone fixed fights and that reason was money and money was only made in the betting odds. An odds favourite had to lose a fight for money to be made so there was litterally no real money to be made in rocky winning fights because after he became popular he was nearly always favoured to win and there was no money in him winning. The only way the mob would benefit would be by rocky losing a big fight and that never happened. The heavyweight that we all knew for sure that was envolved with the mod was sonny liston and he was hugely favoured to beat Ali but he quite on his stool and went down in the rematch and there was a lot of money made in him losing and it's suspected that he took a dive. Whether he did or didn't we will never know but we do know he was in the mob and we do know he was a huge favourite to win but lost and we do know a crap ton of a lot of money was made by him losing. As far as your saying there are no american white fighters and never will be again, that makes you sound incredibly stupid and saying things that stupid will make anyone of any intelligence never take you seriously. Obviously there are white american boxers, I know plenty of them.

Rick Nelson Different day and age. Heavyweights typically peak later than smaller guys. Smaller guys are typically out of their primes by 33, 34 years old. Back in those days guys fought longer, harder fights. Nutrition and training was different as well. Not only that, guys fought more often back then. So fighters aged faster in those days.

You want to know the bottom line about the Rock? Don Turner trained 20 world champions and has 50 plus years experience in Boxing. I attached a 4 minute video at the end of this message where Don talks about Rocky, LISTEN TO HIM. Don was there when Rocky fought--not 60 years in the future sitting behind a laptop and not knowing a damn thing about Marciano and fighting. So many birdbrains say Rocky at 188 lbs could not fight against the 200-250 lb fighters of today, listen to what Don Turner says about that. To of you you pugilistic fools, watch Ali vs Doug Jones. To see it on You Tube, you wlil have to put it Clay vs Jones. Doug Jones weighed 188 and rocked the hell out of Ali in the first round of the fight. Jones also went the distance with the greatest and was a hell of a fighter. Watch this video and LEARN! @

The films don't lie. I saw a film of Jim Corbett fighting a top fighter of his day and couldn't quit laughing. Neither fighter knew how to throw a punch. The one guy was closing his eyes when he threw a right. They were street fighters with guts to get in the ring. That goes for Dempsey too. Where was he going to get all of this great ring acumen? He was a hobo riding the rails. We don't even know his true wins and losses because he was fighting in pickup fights in bars.

He knocked out plenty of good opponents. He took Gibbons the 15 round distance and won. He was coming off a 3yr-layoff aganist Tunney, and still manage to catch and floor him for a long-count. Most of his losses came from short 4-6 rounders, on points. Most believe that he took a dive aganist Flynn, during their first bout, because he was starving/and had not eaten for several days. Clinching was an artform in old-school boxing.

And they stunk too. They wrestled more than fought with their fists. If you want to believe he was a great fighter that's nice. I've read everything there is about the guy and seen all of the existing films of him comparing the film to the print description in the period papers. For the 1920's he was a nice heavyweight but after Louis and the fighters after him came on the scene - he was obsolete. The film does not lie.

Firpo was an amateur with about 20 pro fights when Dempsey fought him and Firpo really won that fight. If you don't want to use the films then what are you using to show he was any good because the newspaper accounts don't match what the films show. They exaggerated his prowess to get people to read the papers. Dempsey was still fairly young when he fought Tunney and Tunney showed how over rated he really was. One round in twenty rounds are not close fights.

I never read any of this - anywhere. The films don't lie. Dempsey was the most over rated fighter of all time. There are no cat like moves that the media of the day describe and his stamina was highly questionable. He telegraphed his punches and his chin was highly questionable against heavy hitters - e.g.Firpo and Flynn. In twenty rounds he fought with Tunney he won only one round. The reason they fought ten rounders was because Dempsey knew he couldn't fight 15 with a quality opponent.
