- Some light duty off-roading. Just to be clear, driving where there is no road is illegal in Norway, these shots come mostly from my own farm, or farm tracks where I have been working on houses. A very clever 4wheeldrive system gives 60%power to the front wheels (which carry 54% of the weight of the car) 40% to the back wheels. It transfers power to wheels with traction, making it perform well on slippery surfaces. It does not have a low-range gearbox, I wish it did have.... Only Produced between 2000 and 2003 this is becoming a seldom vehicle.

@@fotofletch I just fitted a new drive axel this week and was just saying to the mechanic; what recent car could fill the void if this one has some fatal damage/deterioration?
@@LucasRichardStephens that's a good question. I loved the 'futuristic' styling of the RX4. It did have it's problems. I had the 2L petrol and it was crap on fuel and just ate the coil packs! I never really took it of road as you have done but when I did it was more than able.

You do put it to the test. We don't have those Renaults in the States.
They are all just shots of me on my way to and from work. It has turned out to be much more economical than the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Hilux, I had preceeding it. And though not as powerful and rugged as them, I do just the same work with it as I did with them, just at a fraction of the running costs.

I have two, but both need work doing on them now.
Based on the spec it’s heavy on the fuel, on par with an Volvo XC70 from the same year. But it looks to be very useful and easy to drive in that terrain.
Since Norwegians have low confidence in Renualt, this car is cheap to buy here compared with a Suzuki or Subaru, the fuel consumption is high off road, but not more than to be expected. I have very little long haul driving and a 400meter drop/clim every day, very often with the trailer, which results in a consumption of 10.8KM per liter yearly average.
10ks to the litre is good,with that kind of work...I lookin at 2002 petrol one in NZL,but parts could be a problem?!
That might be the case, but not really different to any 20 year old vehicle. I think the petrol ones use a bit more fuel than the diesel. But I have tools that weigh a lot, it would be different with an unladen car. They are cheap if you get one in working order or if you can fix them yourself. Comfortable to drive on bad roads, at a fast pace. Much more car than truck. I now use a suzuki sx4 which is smaller, and more powerful but does not perform as well off road at all. Having lower ground clearance and getting stuck more easily on snow, the extra power doesn't help the off road performance.
J'ai tracté une demi corde de bois dans la remorque et dans le coffre du rx4dci avançant un peu les sièges arrière et ça envoyait facile du champ en côte et le type qui vendait le bois était surpris... Bois sec.. Et bâche sur la remorque et bois dans le coffre fermé passé par la vitre arrière ouverte... Bien rangé... Et 4 dans le véhicule... Alors il pèse 1560 kg mais ça n'est pas un mal pour tracter et ayant du poids au sol... Pneus neige verglas boues..
Watch out, you were about to end up with a huge dent on your tail gate! How on earth you don't hook up those logs on the trailer with a chain??? How much it costs, never risk your drive, nener risk yorself.

Hi Lucas, I have same renault rx4 1.9dci 75kw, when I drive it in 2nd gear I hear some noises like vibrations on 1500rpm from back side of vhicle, is it same situation with yours?
Have your drive train checked, the bearings that support the middle axel to the back wheels can wear out and also the rubber balancing weight on the back axel is often broken and can just be removed if it is. Other than that they wear like any other car so things like the exhaust mountings or the wheel bearings can wear out. I have heard that the fifth gear is prone to failure, but mine are fine on both my two rx4 cars, remember to like, share and subscribe!

Avec le mien à 60kmh dans un chemin j'ai percuté 2 VTT qui se sont retrouvés dans la rivière au frais à chercher des poissons... Mais non.. Je rigole... Ptdr humour... N'empêche que.. 3ème et gazs.. Ça envoie bien..

@@LucasRichardStephens Van a tulajdonomban egy rx 4 autó két éve csinállom sok helyen aláméretezték. Nem terpre való . Kormánymű gyenge . A műanyag burkolatok alatt megáll a sár kirohad.
A kormány dölésszöge kicsi. A folyadékkuplung megoldás érzékeny. Hobbi autónak jó!
