    I have the same manual reel mower. I love it. Been mowing my kbg at 7/8” to 1” for 2 years. I mow frequently so it is very easy to push. I do my entire 12,000 sqft with it barefoot and it really changes the mowing experience for the better. As the reel wears in the is barely any bed knife contact and it is quiet

    Great unboxing and review for this mower. I think that’s amazing that it comes with the sharpening kit and bag. I defiantly think this would be good for my Bermuda next season and keeping it at an inch. Great video man.

    I think your assembly part is the best I find on youtube especially the e ring. I do have a question - are those grass pieces leave on the lawn is good for grass? Thanks

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! You can leave the grass clippings on the lawn. The smaller the clippings the better. If it’s too much, it can promote disease and fungus.

    Great video brother I’m actually assembling my 16 inch while I watch. I wanted a seven blade but couldn’t find it anywhere and I’m impatient LOL

      Thanks for watching!! It’s such a good mower! And cheap too! I should have gotten one with more blades.

      @@TheLawngineer Hey are the blades locked in place as a safety measure ? Mine seems to be stuck on the bent knife. I wonder if that was on purpose.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Před 3 lety +1

      @@mysteriofx2668 it does make good contact with the bed knife. When I don’t use mine for a while, it seems to be difficult to break loose. After pushing it in the grass a bit, it gets easier. Like the moisture from the grass blade acts as a sort of lubricant. You can loosen it by using the 4 bolts on the back of the mower that adjust the bed knife.

    Have you ever tested the Fiskars Stay Sharp Max? It has a 4" cutting height. I was just reading about reel mowers this week.

      @TheLawngineer  Před 3 lety +2

      I haven’t. I’ve heard good things about their products though. Almost bought one a while ago but at the time I decided that I didn’t need it. Perhaps I’ll review one in the future.

    I wanted the Fiskar's but Lowe's only had the 16" Earthwise. Works great, but I have to order a sharpening kit for this rapidly approaching lawn mowing season.

      @TheLawngineer  Před 3 lety +2

      Awesome! It’s a great little piece of equipment. I’m probably due for a sharpening too!

    What type of grass? Cool or hot climate?

      This was perennial rye grass in cool season climate.

    It would have been informative to hear you cut the grass instead of adding music over vital enquiry some may have regarding how loud or quiet it cuts I would really like to know if I would wake my neighbors early in the morning.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Před rokem

      It’s very quite. If you keep it clean. If you let the blade sit and rust, it’s gonna scream.

    Ye olde bedknife 😀

  • @davidtseng5565
    @davidtseng5565 Před 2 lety +1

    The reel mowers will not cut grass uniformly, always leaving some un-cut grass behind. It will not cut tall grass. I have two of those, but they will never replace my rotary mower (hands up).
    The design defects of reel mowers are: 1. the bevel angle of reel blades is nearly 90 degrees. The blade should incline forward to reduce the bevel angle; 2. the blades are made of tempered soft steel. The blades should be hardened to RC60; 3. the fixed bed knife should be located at the lowest point of the reel cylinder (not at the back).

    I'm NOT excited about the PLASTIC gears hidden by the outside of the wheel. I do not think the plastic gears will have a long life.
