  • Hey guys! So, I decided to finally share a video that I filmed and edited over a year ago. I had been sitting on this video debating whether or not I should post it because I did not like the video quality of the introduction. Anyways, I decided that I should finally post it because I think there is a lot of good information here and this video might actually help someone out. This video is Part 2 of 2, of the Chevy Cobalt Misfire Series. In the last video we determined that we had a misfire on cylinder number 2 because of a leaking burned exhaust valve. In today's video we take the engine apart to see if we can find the problem and repair it.
    Incase you missed Part 1 here it is! • CHEVY COBALT DEAD MISF...

    I finnaly found a shop owner that gives a you know what. It's a lil weird to be honest with you when you are used to the typical owners that don't care about anything except numbers. My boss goes as far as every Wednesday when snapon shows up he sends me on the truck and let's me pick anything the shop needs to make our lives easier. There are very few out there like this I am most definitely not leaving this shop oh and not to mention I am making more money then ever in my automotive career.

    Very good job, very good job!
    I used the suction cup on the valves many times, my Dad never used the drill. He said he could tell when it was lapped properly, but it's obvious you did it correctly as shown in the seat.
    Did you use a calibrated straight edge on both the head and block?
    What did you use to clean the head and block surfaces when using the drill?
    Thank you for this video.
    Except for you and Ivan, all I see today is engine swaps if the problem engine needs repairing. Work like what you've done is a dieing skill.

    • @ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO
      @ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes I did verify the flatness of the head and block using a straight edge and a feeler gauge. Unfortunately, I didn't film it. On the drill I use a simple wire brush. It works great and doesn't tear up the metal. Thanks for watching!

      @@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTOcan you please explain....
      Why why why???
      Today's modern cars eg Toyota Glanza, Toyota Taisor, has 12V and then drops to 7V in the door close signal voltage.
      Whereas, it used to be directly 12V when door closed and 0V when opened in old cars.
      But today's cars has 12V at door closed, and after 20 seconds, it drops to constant 7V. When opening, it drops to 0V.
      Why there's delay in dropping to 7V at door closed??
      What's the significance of this 12V to 7V???
      Please explain 😊

    The condition the burned valve was, I would have milled the valve seat. Even if the valve does not leak, this does not mean that it is sitting flat across its entire width and dissipating the heat well. You don't have to disassemble the chain tensioner. You can also preload it in its entirety. Testing for valve leaks better use benzine.

    It's likely running lean due to that cracked exhaust manifold. Probably gonna burn another valve unless ya address that.

    @tiredoldmechanic1791 Před 3 měsíci

    Somebody was using low octane fuel. I've used a drill to lap valves since the 60s. Some say you have to go back and forth but when the valves and seats are ground it's done turning in one direction, not in a reciprocating motion.

    Burnt valve. The manufactures run the fuel mapping way to lean to improve their C.A.F.E. rating as really aren't concern with low term reliability. Ford 2.0-2.5L suffer from the same run lean condition.
