- In today's video we take a look at a 2013 Ford Edge w/ 4 cylinder 2.0l Ecoboost engine. According to the repair shop the vehicle has been sitting for about 2 years with a bad transmission. The shop recently replaced the transmission and test drove the vehicle. The next day when the customer came to pick up the truck, it would'nt start! They scanned the vehicle and found the PCM was not communicating. After checking the grounds and connections, they decided to call me to take a look. Follow along as I take you step by step through troubleshooting a bad PCM.

Great video thank you for posting that. I would assume that after replacing a PCM even if it is pre-programmed, the vehicle would need a perimeter reset.
That is correct. I forgot to mention this. The shop had a capable scan tool for that.
What is a perimeter reset?
The body control module has the key code and hit that the PCM needs in order to start the vehicle. The perimeter reset basically syncs the PCM to the body control module for the key coding.
@@josephgronkiewicz328 Is it "perimeter reset" or "parameter reset"? Thanks again!
Muy bien gayo eres una chingonada...
Veo tus videos desde SLP mexico ...
Hope you can read that ... I know u can ...

Eric, says that on every lesson. 😂👍🏾
Old habbits are hard to break 😂
Dude you explain things better than any other CZcamsr or teacher. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Man those videos never get old, if that's not something you deal everyday you forget... So watching those just keeps you in the loop
You don't have to apologize. We appreciate your work to video these diags. Love your detail in all this, we learn much from this.
Outstanding diagnostic walkthrough. It's something special watching a pro do their job well.
Thanks for COACHING us with such dedication !! The passion is evident in everything you do !!
It must feel great to realize you made the right call.
Between your YT channel and word spreading around town about you, I think you'll always have a steady stream of appreciative customers.
Great job 👍
Great video. You are always so through in your diagnostic approach and explain it in a way that is easy to understand. This is one of my favorite diagnostic channels.
I was in this repair business for 28 years and I can see that you really have a grasp on what you are doing, BRAVO!
Eric, don’t think that we long-time viewers don’t notice that you’ve really stepped up your editing game lately, on top of your already stellar diagnostics methodology. Great work!
DEAR SIR,
YOUR EXPLAINATION IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE LOGICAL ANALYSIS, WHICH IS VERY HELPFUL AS EVER. THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR EFFORT.
Big thumbs up for your thought process and being confident in condemning the pcm. Also, thanks for your time to upload those amazing videos which I can say 100 percent very informative and educational.
You did your job and were 100% correct. Don't apologize! Thank you for the update and the "tips and tricks" especially for using 12 volts through the test light at the VREF connections checking for shorts to ground.
Continually 100% amazed at your expertise ! I know it takes years to get where you are with your skills.👍👍 sad there’s no one in Amarillo like you.
Excellent video. Ultimately had to replace the PCM in my 2008 Explorer Sport Trac. For dealer had the car, and they were unable to get a PCM from Atlanta, so I found one in Jacksonville, FL, and it too, came pre-programmed from the rebuilder. The dealer was surprised that I could find one, and they were happy to install it. Worked like a charm.
Always a pleasure seeing you Eric no matter how long we wait! It's worth waiting for!
So so SO useful! Running into same issues with my 2010 Edge and have been lost until I found this video.
I am now subscribed and will be checking it all out. Thanks for the time and editing!
Excellent communication about your thought process. You're really thorough. Thanks for posting.
I wish you all the best my brother, hopefully things have gotten better (I stumbled on your page and watched the ls460 flood nightmare, and the shop closing video). I have an ls460L, and was looking to buy another (LS460L or LX570). Thank you for all your help. Amazing work. God Bless.
Eric thanks for sharing . Video was extremely informative and I much appreciate how you walk us through the wiring schematics. Stay safe and well Artie 👍
Dang I always see you fixing some crazy problems many me mechanics would run away from no doubt. Hope you charge accordingly, good work ain't cheap boss man.
Always useful and entertaining content on this channel! Thanks for taking the time to educate us Eric!
One of the most informative videos out there. EXCELLENT!
No apologies needed . I'm grateful for the knowledge you share. Thanks
Just discovered your channel with this video. Awesome work! Everything was so well explained. Will be watching more.
excellent job of taking us through your diagnotic strategy and performance. loved the explanation using the diagram and splicing in of text to indicate what you were going to do next. really like that you have not overloaded the engine bay with leads and other equipment (that can be distracting and confusing). conducive to understanding where leads go and and understanding
ojo no manufaturer would agree with your tool with the pin test. did you forget your ase terminal test kit? ignore the typos
Great work Eric, that was a lot of wire's and ground checking. Thanks
That's the same checks that I do great job showing 👏 just been about 10 months sense last 1 I checked was making sure I hadn't forgotten about anything like u said u can never be 100 % on knowing!!
rt here in kenya your channel is the best learning platform
Erick, great video as usual and I think you should be an instructor as you are very clear and concise when explaining your test procedures…very easy to follow👍
One of the most painful and valuable lessons I've learned while doing electrical troubleshooting in my career was because of voltmeters and led test lights!
Now I usually use my test light that I installed a fog light bulb in that pulls like 4 amps if I'm testing power supply or ground circuits and it has never failed me!
ispr. Remember that. And now I have to rewatch part of the video.
Excellent as always.
Yes. I will remeber this this acronym the next time I see it. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the step by step diagnosis with explanation..
Another great diagnostic video by ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO.
Terrific video and diagnosis. Thank you.
Eric, great video ! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for helping me to understand Automotive😊🥰
Great video! I like the idea of testing for shorts to ground in the reference circuits that way but I always got told never to do that because going from battery positive with a test light to a reference circuit could spike the module by putting 12 to a 5V outlet, I guess it all depends on the internal circuit board design really
Always thanks Eric ... Always we thank you brother.
Appreciated everything you do for us thanks .,nothing to apologize I'm simptly grateful to you.
Great as always thanks for shearing your information
Nice informative video as usual.
I wish more and more videos from you.

Thank you for the videos you make I Learn a lot from it God bless you 🇬🇭
Great Vid. Súper demostration 👍🏻👍🏻
very informative , thanks Eric
17:44 a headlamp bulb drawing 15 amps is kinda off there. 15 amps @ 12v = 180 watts, regular headlamp bulb (499/477/H7) would be almost 4.6 amps @12v (55w) but yea I would totally be checking those main grounds with a high current test lamp especially if they carry the current to ground the injectors and/or ignition coils but if it's just a sensor ground then yes a low amp incandescent test light is suitable but each to their own, obviously everything else looked to a bad computer (which it was), I've been burnt by assuming a low amp test light (~200mA) lighting a ground before calling it good but under a 'normal running load' it was bad causing stalling but again in the video this was a KOEO no comm requiring very little draw
Hey Eric,
Great videos thank you
Love watching the videos about how programming keys id like to get into this , what’s the best bet to get learning up key programming, other than watching all your videos which I do
Great video 👍 very very good explanation thank you so much for your efforts 😊😊

Eric, AWESOME work as always brother thanks for sharing.cheeeers
Thanks for watching
Great work
I never heard of a test light until a few years ago and it is such a brilliant tool why do LED test lights exist when the other ones are so much better it would seem
Hola primo .

Wow! What an education!
Outstanding tutorial! Is there a scan tool like you were using that you could recommend for diyer’s that won’t break the bank?

Don't need to apologize. Troubleshooting customers cars is the most important thing.
awesome video , cheers man
Thanks for sharing amigo
Awesome video
Really really good video 👍
Thanks for the visit
Good job.
Thanks as usual for the great video. How much is a new or remanufactured PCM in this truck ? Eric's time is also money :)
Eric, can you do a video explaining long term and short term fuel diagnoses.
Been watching some of your videos. Every Tech should be Sub to your channel. I'm no longer a Tech but I Sub do to all the good info you have to offer.
Nice diag Eric, but question -- when you are testing for power on pins 5 & 6, you are providing the ground external to the PCM (basically just testing wire continuity at that point, which you COULD have done with connector disconnected.) Wouldn't it have been a more thorough test to look at voltage between pins 5 & 6 and PCM pins 1,2 & 4? I'm thinking there COULD be an interruption internal to the PCM between those pins.
Master in action
What is it
About testing sensor integrity, is you use a voltmeter instead of Power Probe is the same thing!?
Just now coming across this video. I’m stumped on this 2014 ford edge. No crank no start but also no codes. Checked the entire ignition system. Any ideas?
This guy gets 10 stars
Very Nice....
Hey I did a front end frame swap on a f-150 as well. After connecting all the cabin wires and everything else it started on the first try. I’m however now getting lost communication with BCM, PCM, RCM messages. Do you have any idea of why this could be or if you encountered these codes with your trucks before? Thanks let me know. I love your videos!
