I'm revisiting this video from time to time to see that beautiful mod once again. It aged well, one of the absolutely best seikomods out there without a doubt. It doesn't look exactly like the planet ocean, and somehow doesn't look like skx either. And that's great!

Mate, I love this mod! It definitely turned out more than 'alright', it looks perfect. The crown choice was a winner and the upgraded bezel insert too. Most of all I love your videos. I've not seen many of them to be honest, just the Fifty-Five Fathoms salvage and this one, but I really enjoyed both of them. There's a lot of honesty and humour in them which I think people appreciate and enjoy. You also showed some strap options on this one which was a good bonus. You have great taste in mods and you really put a lot of effort to show every process and even go beyond. I hope you continue to enjoy doing more mods ❤️👍🏼✌🏼🤝🏼

What a gorgeous build. Ive built one watch so far, which is absolute garbage compared to this build. Well done.
I've got the 06 Planet ocean that this homages and the bezel on yours seems smoother than the original. The original is very ratchety (though precise as you'd expect). its a good homage though. i like it. Its only by seeing yours that i remember how 'coppery' the original bezel insert was when mine was new. Mine is way faded now but has a nice vintage look. I wear mine mostly on an orange crocodile strap these days rather than the bracelet.

I enjoyed your mod video, mister Dan, congrats for the SKX Atlantis! But if you thought setting those hands with proper spacing was rather difficult, wait until u build on an eta2824. As for your alignment problem, I would suggest trying with a different set of hands. All these aftermarket parts are not exactly the same quality as stock parts. I prefer LuciusAtelier (better quality and better lume) hands for my projects.

honestly i like it better than an actual omega.
It looks amazing! Setting hands is very nerve racking. I was replacing the movement in a chronograph, and let me tell you, those little subdial hands... just try it once and you will feel like the main watch hands are easy.
Did you try some silicone lube on the crown o-rings?
I'm not a watchmaker but an engineer so forgive the terminology, but I think the hand misalignment is because of backlash in the gears, and when you set the movement to the point of changing the date, you have done so with the crown, but the slack in the gears is in the wrong place compared to when the movement reaches this point by itself. My tip would be, before disassembling anything, let the watch reach 12:00 by itself and note the alignment, then rotate it manually to 12:00 by the crown and note the alignment difference, and take that into account when rebuilding the watch. No idea if this is correct - I've only had this problem once and I just nudged the minute hand to match the hour hand and all was well. GL!

I won't recommend a specific case, since its going to depend on your taste and ideas for the build. But I would recommend any of the cases from places NamokiMods or crystaltimes/seikomods (to name a couple) that are specifically compatible with SKX007 parts. That will maximize your options for parts and ensure that it goes along like a conventional SKX007 build. I might even recommend grabbing a simple Homage watch that looks mostly like what you're aiming for and then do a simple dial and hand swap. There are also plenty of NH-movement compatible cases on AliExpress that come fully assembled which eliminates the headache of having to press in a crystal, and they're pretty great value too if you get the 200M water resistant ones.
Maybe I missed it in the video (I’ve watched it three times because the watch is gorgeous) but, where did you source the final bezel insert? I’m currently sourcing parts to build this watch and love that insert. I’ve been searching high and low but no luck.

Wow.!!! How cool does that look.! How much did all them parts add up to as im thinking of having a go. Its putting the hands on that gets me everytime but i was using an empty biro shell to push them on.!! That is well cool.!! 👍
It's been a couple of years since I built this so I can't remember the exact numbers. But a build like this can range anywhere from £250 to £400 depending on the parts you go with.

Thanks, the parts I've used in this build are rated for 200M water resistance so If I got the crystal in properly then it should maintain that. But unfortunately I don't have the equipment to properly test that.

Hey mate just discovered your Chanel, about to order all my parts for a first build, base off of when you initially test fitted the dial and found it to have 3.8 crown position dial feet, am I correct in assuming any nh35 or 36 movement can be used for a 3 crown or a 3.8 crown case/dial? I am using an an nh35 with date only btw
Yeah, the date disc lines up with either 3 or 3.8 O'clock crown dials on the Nh36/NH35. Its only the the day disc that needs to be swapped for the alignment change.

Hellooooo, I am brand spanky new to your channel and I have to say it's a belter.
I have long been interested in watches, particularly Seiko brands, and have long enjoyed the excellent content from the many CZcams channels available. Recently one of these broached the subject of building your own, and he had previously partaken in small modding projects.
Long story short - caught your content and wow, I'm loving your work and particularly the Atlantis.
As I am new to the modding arena and have dipped my toe in so far as to google parts on the likes of Aliexpress, I would highlight that much confusion abounds regarding parts selection, comparability and outlets to get exactly what I want - like the original Seiko parts that you source.
Would it be possible to do one show where you lead the 'nubes' by the proverbial and step it down a gear for clarity.
With the Atlantis in mind I would love to see a 'Nemo' dial instead.
Is this possible? I hope I'm not the only one that is in this position and would benefit.

I agree about the confusion when it comes to sourcing parts. I still have trouble getting the dials I want. Fortunately in recent times there are more sellers on AliExpress who are getting in legitimate OEM dials for decent prices, and of course I did get a few of my OEM dials from Watch Parts Plaza as well as a couple on eBay. Honestly there's not much to tell, procuring OEM parts can be frustrating and illusive no matter how long one has been modding for. Unless you have a jeweller who is able to straight up order dials from Seiko (which can have a 5 month wait) you're at the mercy of what you can find. My sources are usually, eBay or AliExpress these days. Your best option is digging on AliExpress since there are several sellers who have single listings for OEM dials that have choices of a dozen dials or more. So there's not an easy way to get the exact one you want unfortunately, you just have to dig, or grab what you can get.

CT037CIS - Specially designed to solve the ugly step problem for ceramic beveled/thick lower end bezels inserts. Double dome (domed top domed bottom side) with a large top edge strip and no angled edge design to provide a smoother and smoother fit to curved ceramic bezel inserts.
I'm considering my first mod, of my Seiko Batman turtle. I understand that skx and turtles all have interchangeable parts. That "buttery" bezel you go on about, I assume would fit my turtle easily? Also, I'm thinking of just adding an orange seconds hand to add a pop of color. Can a watchmaker just remove the seconds hand and change it? Or do they need to remove all the hands and reset them all at the same time?
I don't have a turtle myself to know for sure what parts are interchangeable. But I don't think the case parts are (besides maybe a caseback, but again I'm not sure about those either). Unless you were using an SKX turtle conversion case, I'd assume case parts are not compatible.
I'm fairly sure that things like Bezels and chapter rings are definitely not compatible between the SKX and the turtle, so its probably best to look into Turtle Specific mod parts when modding the turtle case itself.

Looks like mine does in fact have a beveled edge on it, since I used a sloped bezel insert. Although the bezel insert wasn't meant for an SKX and shows a slight gap. If you're going for a sloped bezel insert, the regular NMK301 will be fine. But if you were going for a standard flat bezel insert the "no bevel edge" NMK302 might look cleaner, I think that's the one I used for my "perfect skx" (the SKX171 mod).

question : why do all modify only seiko ? why not ... orient, that is same as old and functional as seiko . cheaper . or Citizen ? i`d like , for instance, to modify my ray 2 into citizen ny0100-50m , i like this model`s hands,blue luminance ?or into rolex submariner. please . i know orient ray 2 uses seiko skx007 parts, it is compatible

depending on the parts, a build like this can range from 300-500 bucks, but modding an homage watch can save some money as well as getting something like a complete case setup from places like AliExpress. That price wouldn't include the tools needed either.
Oh, by the way, how much it costs to build a watch like this one?
This one cost £375. But that doesn't include the parts that I bought for it that got swapped out. A build like this can cost more than the sum of its parts if you change your mind on things.

Unfortunately, I just checked this and the listing is gone... I can tell you it was a "37.7mm Planet Ocean Insert" which might be specific enough to find similar listings of the same insert. Since 38mm finds generic ones, 37.7mm might find what you're looking for. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but a rough estimate based on the prices of parts currently (as of march 2022) this is around £380-400). I wouldn't recommend the hands I used here though as the lume is poor and I've since replaced them.

Ive heard WRaccessories might be the closet to seiko OEM lume color with there c1/c3 lume, have you tried there hands yet? if so, whats your opinion?
also I know Namoki parts are highly recommended throughout the community and are fairly close in lume consistency but they dont have the greatest hand selection, Dagaz use to be highly recommended on the forums but seems theyve been plagued by bad customer care in recent years, then of course you got the classic yoobookies etc etc
and then theres the BG9 lume brands like LA and a couple others that do really cool BG9 lume opinions...
but in your experience who have you found to be the best for aftermarket seiko hands?... more specifically when it comes to green lume as i think LA is easily the best of the best when it comers to the BG9 handsets.

Im just getting into the exciting world of modding and searching through the sea of parts is quite daunting to say the least, not to mention exhausting combing through the endless forum discussions and videos about skx modding.
I plan to start with my Orient Ray 2... modding the bezel/insert, crystal and hands... just ordered all the parts and I too choose to use some planet ocean style hands but in a padi color (silver H+S hands, red M hand) that i purchased from Rafflestime...
there also only a C1 lume so i dont expect it to be nearly as intense of a lume brightness as the OEM orient hands... I was tempted to go with WR hands but I decided to give the raffles hands a shot since there pretty inexpensive and its the only site i seen that had the planet ocean style handset in padi colors...
if it works as planned and the lume matches well enough it will be an awesome looking watch and if i find the c1 lume to be underwhelming then I figure i can always swap them out for something better. in the future... but im really hoping the padi plant ocean hands workout as its gonna be a great look.
@@TysonHook-22- Honestly, I couldn't say who's hands, as far as lume goes, are best. I haven't really bought enough sets of hands from each vendor to have a good idea of consistency, except namokimods which is very consistent. I've found monsterwatches to be outstanding for lume, even brighter than OEM but the selection is very limited.
I ended up replacing the hands on this Planet ocean build with these: wrwatches.com/products/planet-ocean-arrow-hands-for-nh35-4r35-6r15-7s26-movement which had very good lume, that matches the OEM dial perfectly. I usually end up buying whatever hands I can get from any of the reputable sellers, or even just ebay, depending on what I need for the build at the time. Even ali express can be good for hands if your going for BGW9. Since C3 hands on Ali are always too green by default and I don't like to take the chance on them anymore. Unless I can get the hands very cheap and then try to relume them myself (which i've recently gotten into trying).

I kinda assumed its just a matter of trial and error and experimentation to find what works best in each specific build.... which is kinda annoying, but i suppose its half the fun at the same time... hunting the internet trying to find the "goldilocks" parts that work just right together.
