    I know this vid is old now but if u don't know, removing the bezel at the 2 or 10 o'clock position works FAR better then at the 12 or 6 o'clock positions. Use some heat resistant tape for protection against scratching and it'll pop off with no trouble at all mate!

    People have a problem with non OEM parts, But they won't admit to themselves that most Seiko is made in Malaysia and china...hardly prestigious countries of origin for your watch. So, get over it lol. Its not omega, or rolex, it really doesn't matter. Grand seiko is a different ball game too.
    A knock off mm300 from Heimdallr now has a genuine Swiss ETA2824 movement for under $400 usd. That's just the way things are now. Maybe 10 years ago the argument would have been different, But then again that's when seiko actually made their common watches in japan...smh. For now, whether these actually are OEM or not, its as good as anything seiko is handing over for under $2000usd. and thats the sad truth.
    Nice build!

      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, I would have gone with a white date wheel if there wasn't an index at 3 or if the date window had a frame. And I definitely would have if the 3 o'clock index extended around the date window, but since it didn't I thought I'd try blending the date complication with the dial instead. But I agree with you, it would look great with a white date wheel.

  • @fakenewsisthenews3542

    Quick question, if I put a top hat or super dome crystal on and want to do bezel swaps from time to time, am I going to have to remove the crystal possibly to "push" the bezel into place? Sometimes that requires a crystal press too, right? I'd imagine if the crystal is sticking up, then it would have to come out, put bezel in then put crystal back in. Also, if I'm putting a new crystal in a watch that is mint/new in box, but about 4 years old, is the original crystal gasket usually sufficient? Or do I need to use new crystal gaskets every time I change a crystal? In your opinion? Much appreciated. Thank you

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před rokem

      To answer the simpler question first: Yeah if the watch is New in box, but was boxed a few years ago, the crystal gasket is probably fine.
      For the first question: It depends on the case you're going with and the diameter of the bezel and crystal. From my experience, most bezels on these dive watches are designed to sit around the edge of the crystal (with a slight gap to allow the bezel to rotate freely) and so its possible to leave the bezel on when removing the crystal.
      There are some watches out there that have the crystal and bezel as one piece and others where the bezel might sit over the edge of the crystal. But for the watches with the decent bezel attachment methods, they are simple enough to remove and re-attach anyway, so its not too much trouble to remove the bezel first. And if you're changing the crystal you're going to use a crystal press for it, so when/if the bezel needs to be pressed back on you'll have the press there to use anyway.
      And, unless you're bezel is a joined piece with the crystal (like some of the 5KX's have the crystal pressed into the bezel rather than the case) you should be able to swap it without having to touch the crystal.
      The best thing you can do it look for specific information about the watch you want to work on, and see if there are any disassembly videos of it, that way you'll know for sure what you're in for when you try to modify it. The answers I've given here are somewhat generalized and based on my experience with SKX mods and might not be so accurate with other models.

    • @fakenewsisthenews3542
      @fakenewsisthenews3542 Před rokem

      @@ItsAnotherWatch Thanks brother. Yeah, speaking of a modern turtle. The nemo orange one. I was looking to put a top hat or super dome so I'd have sapphire. But I want to be able to change bezels for a new look. (and preserve the original insert) I've seen some vids where the bezel can be hard to pop on, so they use the press to push down the bezel into place. But if a crystal is sticking up, it's going to be hard to push the bezel down as the height of the crystal would stop it. A flat crystal would be no problem as it would allow the bezel to be pushed all the way. Thanks again!

  • @madsdrastrup
    @madsdrastrup Před 2 lety

    Can you comment on the differences between this OEM SPB185 case and the MM300 case from NakomiMods? Are they similar in size and fit on wrist? Which one do you prefer?

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety +1

      I prefer the style and look of the OEM SPB185 case, the sharper angles and the extra curve of the lug tips, plus the smaller grooves on the bezel. Even the bracelet looks better. But in terms of a build that needs a chapter ring, the Namoki MM300 case wins out, not to mention it is FAR more comfortable with all of the edges that contact the wrist on the case and the bracelet being smoother than the SPB185. However, if you were doing a build that had the minute track on the dial instead of the chapter ring, going for the MM300 case will look worse, because a blank brushed chapter ring is larger and uses more space than a case like the SPB185 that minimizes the "chapter ring section" because it doesn't need one.
      Also, the Bezel action on the SPB185 OEM case is really firm and fantastic. It's much looser on the Namoki case by comparison.
      The crown action on the Namoki MM300 is better too, much smoother. My SPB185 case grinds a bit when screwing down the crown. Makes me wonder if these things end up on aliexpress because they failed some kind of QC at seiko's factory. Still, good value for someone like me who's willing to put up with a less than perfect sample to save money.
      So in terms of comfort, with its smooth edges, the Namoki MM300 case wins out. And if you are doing a build with a minute marked chapter ring it will look fantastic. But for dials with the minute track on them rather than the chapter ring, the MM200 case will look better. That being said, i'd be curious to try out modding the Heimdallr Thorn which is an MM200 homage that uses a chapter ring.

    Question, the Dial appears on Alibaba (and initially in your vid.) without the "Seiko" logo up top yet, in your finished product, the dial you show does have the "Seiko" logo printed on it...what gives...??

      I actually don't know specifically but it seems that they're not allowed to show the logo on Ali. But if you contact the seller via the chat function on the site, they'll send you images with it visible.

      @@ItsAnotherWatch Thanks for getting back to me! Yeah. "T-Watch Mod Store" - Is this the vendor you bought the dial from? They don't respond. Oh! and also , Only the seconds hand is gold, correct? The rest are polished silver. Did you have to purchase 2 sets - one of each...??

      @@Dr.Who_84 No, the seller that I got mine from isn't available anymore. Stores tend to pop up and shut down on Ali all the time. You could try finding another shop that has the dial and contact them, but sometimes you have to wait a few days to get a response. (I have gotten responses within 24 hours but it can be a bit of a wait sometimes).
      As I mentioned in the video, when ordering the hands from Monster Watches you can ask for a gold second hand. I emailed them directly and got a quick confirmation, but I was later told that you can just add a note to your order with a request for a gold second hand and he'll do it. He actually commented on this video, I believe, confirming that its better to leave the note on the order than email him.

    How do you know these parts are OEM?

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety

      Although I suppose I can't know for certain. I asked the sellers of the parts if they were actual OEM, they said "Yes They are OEM" and based on the quality of the parts when building with them, I'm inclined to agree. Also given that the cheaper aftermarket options use a different Bezel mechanisms compared to this case I'd say that its OEM. That and a lot of these parts get made in China anyway. Still, any reasons I give are just speculation.

    You are using the wrong movement spacer ring. The grey ring is to short for the oem caseback. You need an black spacer ring. 4R and 6R movements come with an black spacer.

    Is this movement NH35 3 clock and is case 4.1 crown position? I looked at the links, it doesn't say.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 9 měsíci

      The Crown position on the SPB185 case is 3.8 O'clock. So any NH35 will do, since the date disc lines up at both crown positions. If you were doing a NH36 and a dial with a day+date window, you'd need to get a specific 3.8 or 3 o'clock date disc (or a movement that comes with the appropriate one) since its the date disc that doesn't align at both.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety +1

      Although I can't speak for how stiff the bezel on yours is in comparison to the one on mine. I can confirm that the bezel action on this case is more than twice as firm as my SKX builds. Its more on par with the SNZH55. Its a very firm bezel action. All I can say is, the way to see if its defective or just firm is to give it a full rotation and see if despite being firm that it rotates smoothly. If it grinds then chances are it was pressed on wrong. But if it turns smoothly, and simply requires more to rotate it, then its functioning normally.

  • @jeffreyalbarandorivera9750

    Have you ever try to remove the rotating bezel of the case from ali express?

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před rokem

      If you're reffering to the aftermarket versions of this case, yeah I have.
      There is one with a signed crown and a different bezel insert style that uses a regular click ring like the OEM ones (but a softer bezel motion) and that one is fine, but the others that use the retention wire are a nightmare to put back on with a decent feel to the rotation. So I'd recommend not removing the bezel if you can.
      If you're just reffering to this OEM version from AliExpress, yeah they come off and go back on just fine since its an OEM case.

    MonsterWatches are known for their quality lume so is it just me or is the lume of the OEM dial and MW hands don’t match?

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety +1

      My camera settings here don't do the OEM/bezel insert lume justice. Although there is a lume difference between the hands and the dial in terms of brightness, in person I can't see it. Heck, just standing near a window for a few seconds makes the whole watch light up when turning around into a dimmer area. I'll have to spend some time figuring out the best settings to show lume with my camera.
