    Was very lucky to speak to Brandon at Case&Dial on Instagram a few months ago!
    He opened my eyes to not only Seiko modding but complete watch builds!
    My favourite Seiko of all time is the 62 MAS, the SPB143 I reviewed a few shows ago, but it didn't make me want to buy it! Why? You'll find out in this show!
    Come see one of my new favourite Dive watches!

    I built myself one. Bought a seestern 62mas replica and ordered the right dial from aliexpress. If you got a basic watch tool set it's an easy switch. Now my seestern looks like a legit seiko reissue. It looks like a 1k watch now and it looks so good it is a keeper.

    I have my dads original 62 Mas which is in a very good condition. He bought it 1967 I think. The one you presented is very similar and nice I have to say, even if it is not 39mm (perfect size for me).
    It would have even been better without the x mark I think. Enjoy swimming with it ! Mine does not like the rain...too old ! but it's OK. This is my favourite watch, which reminds me the good times with my dad.

    One thing that really adds class to the original is the polished chamfered edge of the case between the top and sides. Only Seestern does that with their homage, afaik, though it's a smaller chamfer.

    Fun video. I built my own 62 MAS using parts off eBay. Someone is selling the Heimdallr 62 MAS case separately. I used a black date ring NH35 with a Mil-Spec dial and sword hands. For just a little splash of color a red seconds hand.

I just got 'em bc I like the swords on my Orient Mako II's, then found out about the Rolex Milspec and it sorta blew my mind. Trying to work up the confidence to try a hand swap myself 😰

  • @rbmwiv
    @rbmwiv Před rokem +1

    I agree if I am worried about power reserve I’ll get a quartz. I think 40 hours reserve is plenty for me. I have never had one stop while wearing. The NH35 is bulletproof and cheap to replace. I have many builds all are NH35 or 36 builds different cases and dials.

  • @matthewbessey681
    @matthewbessey681 Před 2 lety +1

    Looks awesome 👍 and I particularly liked the look of the grey haveston nato on it, big fan of haveston straps.

  • @Edward1312
    @Edward1312 Před rokem +3

    The Seiko 6R35 is a superior movement to the NH35, its better finished as well as the 70hrs power reserve compared to 41hrs. You can pick up a secondhand SPB now (without metal strap) for what you paid for that fraken watch. Your viewers need also to remember the fraken watch value will tank on the secondhand market because its effectively a fake. My advice would be to buy a Seestern if you want a good quality inexpensive 62MAS homage that will also hold its value better than any fraken watch.

  • @superdad4324
    @superdad4324 Před 2 lety +1

    Fair play on the build! My only put off is the stand out lume pip on the bezel. Also two of they features of the original is the diashield tint of the case and the bezel insert.

    • @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
      @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR  Před 2 lety +1

      Well that was my choice my friend on the bezel, I think a better lume pip would’ve been sunken into the ceramic insert. But I loved it popping out of the aluminium !!; if you look at my SPB 143 show and MACRO shots I just think it was a way of finding it easier to part with the high amount of cash. Granted I really like the more gun metal look but the added protection it gives…. I’m not so sure;) one thing I did love was the brushed steel insert on the 143! Very cool!! Thanks for watching my friend

    • @superdad4324
      @superdad4324 Před 2 lety

      @@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Cheers for the reply! All in all the watch is a fantastic build. The protection level the case hardening offers is somewhat questionable, not knowing the scale of hardness and the potential difference between stainless. You are right there! I do support your choice in regards to aluminium, looks more authentic to its 62mas heritage. The protruding lume pip is my personal bedbug depending on execution.
      The channel is ace! Keep it up ;)

    Im right in between picking up a spb143 ...your "niggles" about the watch are exactly how I feel about it ... after all its $1000.
    Here is my thing...isn't the answer to not wanting to pay the cost of a genuine product always going to be buying a replica? Ethically how is this any different then snagging one from China even cheaper? Should I save myself $500 or get the real thing on principle? Great discussion excellent video as always..Cheers

      This is not a replacement my friend and I still yearn for an SPB143. I just refuse to pay £1000 on a watch with a 3hrz movement!!!!

    man that crown is huge though...i reckon it may have the same issues as the Armida version that had that same big crown, where it can dig into your hand when you bend

      Hahahaha I don’t think I’ll have a problem with this beautiful crown my friend .

      if you wear the watch behind the wrist bone (like it's sadly used to: watch stays under the cuff all the time and always peeks out, if you want to read the time. in those times back in the day you never wanted to show others what watch you are wearing. understatement was key), you'll never have issues with the crown digging into the hand......

    Yes, I think you're bonkers but I like your videos ! Keep them coming. I'm a low to mid-range budget guy. No high-end stuff for me. Don't want to be forced to choose between the mortgage and a watch !

    One thing I was thinking, and maybe you can ask Brandon... could he remove some of the print, maybe with alcohol? I think removing the prospex X would take it to the next level.

    Great purchase, entertaining as always, would be awsome for a collaboration with Colinfurze the mad engineer he's nuts, never seen him wear a watch though but some mad inventions

      Hahahahaha great point my friend! No don’t do it!!!!! I guess it could be a homage of a homage?;) if I’m not trying to pass off this as an SPB143 nor am I selling them in the bucket load I feel comfortable with that! It’s a custom build made for me that is pretty much the same spec without the diacoat steel and brushed steel bezel insert . Thanks for watching my friend!!

    Hahaha this was a fantastic video on the build absolutely loved it!! Love the spb143 but yeah as you said slightly overpriced for the movement
    Question for you: thoughts on colour matching date wheels with the dial ? You enjoy contrast or wanna match it?
    PS: only channel where I click like button when I am told to! It's just a natural and most easy thumbs up !

      As it was white in the 62 MAS I forgave it!!;) but colour matching the dial would be sweet!!!

      @@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR They're like pringles once you pop you can't stop, 😆 the cool thing is ( and this is not to encourage anyone) if you can dream it and find the parts chances are it can be built! But be fair warned Seiko parts aren't cheep but you will endup with something of your own.
