  • Whether it be CSL Elite, ClubSport Wheelbase or DD1/DD2, every day there are countless threads created asking what settings are best for Fanatec wheels.
    The reality is there are no "best settings", what feels great to one person may feel completely wrong to the next. Let's face it, very few of us have actually been lucky enough to drive our favourite sim cars in the real world.
    So the aim of today's video is to arm you with everything you need to know to fine tune your Fanatec wheel to your personal taste to get the best possible performance and enjoyment.

    Great walkthrough as always, Will. I returned to this vid now that I've gotten my Formula V2 to brush up on the ffb settings.
    In case it helps anyone struggling with the Multi-Position Switches (the big dials lower on the wheel) in ACC ... I found that I had to use Pulse mode instead of Constant mode for ACC to properly bind specific values to each position (e.g, making position 2 always equal Engine Map 2). Constant mode behaved erratically, Pulse works perfectly. Cheers!

    Hi Will,
    Thanks for an interesting & informative video.
    Very timely indeed for me too. My Fanatec Clubsport Wheelbase & pedals etc. have just arrived and my SimLabs cockpit is on order (probably 4 weeks before that arrives), so before long I will be getting stuck into all this set up stuff. Looking forward to it very much but for a raw beginner like me the amount of 'tech admin' is pretty daunting. Having a clear walk-through guide like this will be enormously helpful. Thank you!

    Great Video BM. These are my DD1 settings for ACC: Fanalab in order SEN 1080, FF 100, LIN 0, NDP 4, NFR 0, NIN 0, INT 0, FEI 80, FDR 100, SPR 0, DRP 0, ABS 90, SHO 100, MPS Auto, BFR 90
    ACC In Game gain force 12 or 13

    • @momorious
      @momorious Před 4 lety +3

      ACC in Game gain of 12 or 13 is bad because you lose 87 or even 88% of the FFB resolution coming from the game. Best is to set it to around 60 and then adjust the rest in the tuning menu to get your desired FFB strength.
      NDP 4 is also a bit low and should feel very loose and therefore unrealistic...
      Also INT 0 is extremely bad, how can you really drive that way? It feels horrible, like there is sand in the wheel... You need AT LEAST INT 1 in ACC..

  • @momorious
    @momorious Před 4 lety +17

    FINALLY someone who explains the miracle about software Clipping right!
    DD users indeed should set a max in Game gain of 70 to avoid this software Clipping (at least in AC and ACC and AMS2).
    However, I personally don't agree with the Linearity part, I like it much more to leave Linearity Off which is also the recommended setting from Fanatec and therefore the default value.
    Regarding Spring, only game which uses this in Game is Forza. No other game uses SPR, so it doesn't matter if you set it to 100 or OFF. Other games like AMS2 and pC2 use SPR but only in the game menu, not while driving.
    More or less the same for DPR which also isn't used by many games, therefore NDP is the Nr 1 way to go to add Damping to the steering.

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 Před 4 lety

      Linearity is actually the other way round, it limits max torque if turned on -> I do not use it. It alters the original FFB which you do not want, unless you really suffer of oscillation or other unwanted effects. At least in iRacing - NOT recommended.
      Interpolation: again, strongly disagree, 8 is far too high and smoothens the FFB too much. 3-5 is enough (I think default is 5 and was fixed in earlier firmware versions)

    • @momorious
      @momorious Před 4 lety +1

      @@iseeq72 Default for INT is 6 and feels how the FFB felt before implementation of INT. Especially in iRacing its recommended to set it slightly higher than usual because of their super old outdated 60 Hz refresh rate, so 6-8 is perfect for that game. In other games 3-4 indeed is better, but not really for iRacing as iRacing is much too harsh with a low INT, especially combined with FEI 100 which is also better to lower to 90 or even 80.
      Linearity is true, it limits a DD1 to Peaks of 15Nm and a DD2 to Peaks of 20Nm (so basically to the holding Torque values of each base). However, in the iRacing options this has to be set to on, but it's not recommended to set it also to on in the tuning menu.
      However, in the end FFB is highly personal and there is no right or wrong, if you are happy with a harsher FFB with INT 3 then go for it :)
      The majority however will be happier with a smoother FFB in iRacing I think.

    Great Video Will. But I still in doubt with something: The ACC already has a slider for Dynamic Damping. Would it therefore be redundant or inappropriate to enable Dynamic FFB in Fanalab, already using, for example, 100% in Dynamic Damping within the ACC? • @2SrHome
    @2SrHome Před 3 lety +2

    Hi, i'm in disaccord on your comparison of DD force feedback strength with an audio pre-amplifier
    because while in the pre-amplifier an audio signal is processed, here a mechanical signal (a force) is processed that has nothing to do with the classic distortion produced by an hifi system.
    If you set the base to 100% and in the game you adjust the ffb to an intermediate value (therefore not to its maximum) you get the same desired effect with the difference that you will not have to adjust the base settings game x game but you just have to set everything in every single game.
    In this way (i.e. by setting the FFB on the engine to 100%) you are fully exploiting the potential of your base regardless of its torque force.
    If you consider the DD motor as a pre-amplifier then it is right to amplify even the smallest detail to its maximum potential (100%) and then adjust it with the amplifier (the game settings FFB) to decide the intensity you prefer.
    If not, it wouldn't make sense to prefer a DD2 to a DD1, right? I may be wrong but this is my opinion ;-)

  • @robertosantoro9685
    @robertosantoro9685 Před 4 lety +8

    Software clipping doesn't depend on the wheel base. Whether you have a direct drive wheel or a belt driven one, software clipping can occur regardless of the base connected to your PC. The clipping of the base is harder to detect if you have a low end base as a consequence of its low strength.
    Finally, when you suggest to switch off linearity for belt driven wheels, be informed that the CSW and CSL do not even have this setting available.

Linear seemed to remove a lot of detail and feedback you'd get from the road and curbs made the wheel feel very muted.

    Turning down FFB seems to help but not fully, and I like the higher setting of FFB.
    Using CSL DD with AMS1 and AC.
    Also I note that the idea of FANALAB is to load up to 5 profiles to the wheel when starting a game. The problem is that there is no intuitive way to know that you have to select the SET # in Tuning menu - Then create a profile... its just weird. SETUP Index value seems to correlate to SET # on the wheel. You should be able to edit the Index # when creating a profile yeah ! Great stuff, but users need to review with designers at each step.
    This is driving me to drink !

    First of all I am a big fan of your channel and your enthusiasm. Really enjoy all of your content and hope you continue long into the future. My question is sort of philosophical in nature and relates to your statement that there aren't any "best" settings. I don't totally agree, because if the goal of the settings is to 'simulate' reality, then whatever gets closest to that would be ideal. In real life there is only one way that a car will feel (with a given setup: aero, suspension, tire pressures, etc.). But on the sim, cars with the same in-game setup can be made to feel vastly different based on FFB and other wheel/pedal settings. Maybe it's a question of semantics or you can otherwise convince me I'm wrong, but it seems like if realism is the goal that there would in fact be one set of "best" settings. I understand that to some extent some sim racers will prefer certain settings that might make them a faster sim driver even if that comes at the expense of realism, but for me I would always prefer the most realistic experience and immersion possible. Any thoughts?

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Před 3 lety +1

      I agree but the reality is you’d then have to tune the settings for every single individual car, and not many of us have driven every car in real life to establish a point of reference. Hence “best” being subjective. Is best “most realistic” or “fastest”, that’s up to each individual.

    I think you have linearity mixed up, normally your right you keep it on like in iracing and a dd wheelbase. But in fanalab when its on it compresses the ffb curve to boost weak forces, surly then you would wana keep it off for dd wheelbases. Can you please clarify.

    • @DickVanPaiton
      @DickVanPaiton Před 2 lety

      Not really, linearity on just makes sure that torque is aligned with the continuous holding toque instead of to peak torque which can be affected by load over time.
      But only comes into play if your are overpowering such a strong DD. Which would be "unusual". Especially if peaks are used only in max power scenarios like crash effects etc.
      Clearer now? ;-)

    I think like this. Let's say you hop into a BMW Z4 GT3 car. That car's setting is going to be the same for whoever gets in the car. I want my fanatec to feel like that so I have to adapt to the car's forces.
    I've driven quite a lot of sports cars in my life, a few track cars but I just can't get the feeling right in my newly bought pc master race. I've bought AC, ACC and rfactor 2 and I'm following the baseline settings from fanatec and it's just frustrating. The settings should be as good so you'd only have to change the ffb and that's it. Even Gran Turismo sport feels better than any of the PC games. I bought the fanatec dd1 podium F1 for PS4 and I'm on the last straw before I give up on PC.

      If you’re running a level of force feedback that’s making you slower, I’d suggest turning it down. But yes if you set the car up with softer general characteristics, that will also dampen the harshness of the FFB.
